Think 3rd will be better or worse?

As much as I complain about the games, I really love the concept of them. I love the story telling. Just don't like the illusion of choice, or the way the illusion always ends in death rather than something constructive to make determinant characters futures not so predictable.

Anyways do you think the 3rd game will be better, or worse than the 2nd game? Personally I thought the first game was better than the second. I'm really hoping the 3rd game is an improvement. I have my doubts. Telltale seems to be more interested in cranking out lots of games vs really focusing on quality.

  • Honestly, it will just come down to a matter of opinion. You can't say for sure which one is better or not because it depends on the individual. I, personally, hope that S3 is on par with S1, which is the better one out of the current seasons IMO

  • I love season 1 &2 i trust telltale season 3 going to be epic

  • As Shubbalubbadingdong said, it comes down to a matter of opinion if you think S3 will be better or worse. It's best to reserve judgement until we get the finished project, or at least some details of it. When it comes to what's going to happen in Season 3, we know absolutely nothing (like Jon Snow), so we just have to be patient. To get something as good as Season 1 will be tricky, but it starts with giving the writers the freedom to make the episodes as long as they need to be, a luxury Season 2 writers didn't have.

  • I think it'll be about the same as S2 was. Not worse, but certainly not better. But that's just my gut feeling.

  • It all depends on your taste. I mean telltale could royally screw it up somehow, but hey let's be optimistic. And I'm sure everyone here has pointed out the "flaws" to S2 multiple times that Telltale would have learned something from one of them.

  • I think all the love for life is strange will show telltale people want to make real choices that actually mean something. Telltales usp was supposed to be choice bit thats bull because the choices are pointless.

After s2 I wouldn't be bothered if there wasn't anymore

  • but certainly not better

You can't say that until you play the game. If you go into the game with that mentality, than no matter what the writers could possibly do, you're going to find something to criticize.

  • I'm cautiously optimistic for season 3. GoT has been pretty good so far (I say this as someone who hasn't seen or read it), especially when it comes to length and hubs, so I'd like to think that TTG learned their lesson. It doesn't have to be as good as season 1, it would be great if it was, but as long as it's better than season 2 I'll be happy.

Clem stuck with a doomed dead plot baby all by herself and chances of new characters being introduced just for all of them to die? Scotch please.

Seriously, I think they will taken into account what people have said and work harder on this one...but really where's the scotch? Because in the meantime I'm just not looking forward to it ;_; did I ever tell you stupid frozen lakes and forced Star Trek styled fights suck?

  • You want scotch eh? I thought I saw some across that lake over there... don't worry it's okay, ...completely frozen over, ...it's safe.

  • I'd like to think that Season 3 will be an improvement over Season 2, but since it's another sequel rather than a fresh new game chances are it could end up continuing the same tired formula the Walking Dead games will have, and it'll still lack the same passion Season 1 had with the franchise. A sequel only works if they continue with the same passion they had while offering something new, which I believed that Season 2 failed to execute well.

Borderlands and Game of Thrones were new stories with a new perspective, and the creators had more passion and enthusiasm in the projects than they had with TWD Season 2, hence why they were much better received so far.

With Borderlands yes, but I was just looking at GOT reviews, and TWD S2 reception is, at this point, a lot more positive than GOT.

I really hope we get less Clementine. I think the first season seriously benefited from Clem's presence, but Season 2 only made all of the characters seem fucking stupid because an 11 year old girl is smarter. Especially with that windmill. Season 2 also invalidated all of season 1 by having Clem not be affected at all by Lee's actions. Of course, that would be hard to do, but that's why you don't make her the player character. Make her show up as a cameo or something, so that she can really be truly impacted by Lee's words. Instead, she's just broody, boring, and heartless when it comes to anyone except Kenny and Jane (which, why the fuck did she have to like Jane? Really? Jane is the worst character in the entire franchise.) So yeah, they can't really go anywhere but up from Season 2.

Yeah it sucks, because Game of Thrones is a really great game IMO and is probably just facing a tougher crowd. I wouldn't say the reviews are bad though, they have all been like 7/10 or higher.

  • I was quite shocked by the reviews episode 2 has gotten to be honest. I thought episode 2 was phenomenal, way better than the first, and to see it only get stuff like 7/10 is disappointing, I'd easily give episode 2 a 9/10. I wouldn't say the reviews are bad either, but they aren't as positive as one would think.

  • Same, I thought it was easily deserved a 9/10. Some reviewers gave it that though and hopefully more will as the episodes continue because honestly a 7/10 is a bit harsh IMO

  • Maybe people just don't like it when game developers mess with their Game of Thrones, been burned to many times in the past. I mean this series hasn't exactly got the best games backing it up, but this is more for a reason why Telltale should be praised for making such a well-made game.

  • Agreed, this game is the only one so far to do justice to the universe. It should definitely be getting praised more.

  • I think second season was epic like first season I LOVE TWD <3

  • It depends on the writer, Season 2 had its flaws, mainly because of the writing of the Episodes. I think if Telltale can retain their writer from Season 1, I Season 3 will be good.

  • Depends on the writer. If the people who wrote episode 3 and 4 of season 2 are back. Then I have no hope at all for the next season.

  • The second season felt like a strong six, slightly better than average. Hopefully they can rally and get a better story.

  • Season 3 can be great if they use the multiple endings efficiently. If they dont, then it probably wont be that great

  • Sean Vanaman, the head writer of Season 1, who wrote episodes 1, 3, and 5, left Telltale shortly after the release of Episode 1 of Season 2 and formed, along with Jake Rodkin (who also worked on S1) Campo Santo, so the chances of him coming back are slim to none. Nick Breckon, the guy who replaced him as head writer and is a personal friend of Vanaman, I believe is a fully capable of continuing this series. He's a very talented writer and probably the best Telltale has to write Season 3.

  • It definitely has the potential to be the best out of the 3. But we'll just have to find out.

  • If Telltale looks back at what made Season 1 great and includes more hubs, character development, and impactful choices that "tailor" the game, then Season 3 will be phenomenal. But if Telltale continues to follow the same writing formula as Season 2, then it will be another okay, but messy story. It all comes down to the writers. I just hope that it won't be the worst season.
