Kenny's Comeback

Okay sorry for my bad English but this was really long on my mind.

Kenny's comeback in Season 2 and don't get me wrong i loved Kenny in Season 1 that moment was so unrealistic and ridiculious, how could after two years Clem meet Kenny again? that chance is really small and also they ruined his character in S2, In S1 he was really straight in his action but he was never so hotheaded like in S2 A man like him should be hardened and calm what he have been through but no Telltale was thinking ''c'mon we gonna turn him into a aggresive madman'' The general writing of S2 was horrible anyway but i think bringing Kenny back was a big misstake and again i love him in S1 so i'm no hater neither a fanboy and i'm gonna be honest i wanted him te be back in S2 but i realized later that it was no good idea.

so what's your point of view guys?

  • To be honest I'm not sure even Kenny's most avid supporters think that his explanation for his return was well done.

  • he was never so hotheaded like in S2

The dude smashed a guys head in with a salt lick lol.

Kenny is a fan favorite and Telltale never had him die on screen, just left his death ambiguous. So bringing him back is not really so far fetched in a game where the dead walk. Plus he has every reason to be pissed off in S2. He had a good thing going until the cabin crew came in and destroyed his life and then Carver expects him to be his prisoner/slave until killed off whenever he pleases and then his girlfriend dies and then etc. etc.

I like kenny as a character but the chances of him returning for season 2 were slim and i mean he said i got lucky real lucky as a explain answer of a reply was not much of a answer to how he survived i dont really know but looking back on season 2 now it was not bad but no-where near as good as season 1 so pretty much far from bad but not good to full potential levels but regardless season 2 was good and fun in my opinion

  • Like i said he was pretty straight in his actions in S1', In the ''salt lick situation'' he did it because protecting himself and the others but he was already hotheaded before Carver came in, he was pretty mad about little things like carrying the box from Sarita and against Luke and Nick.

  • My only problem with it is the lack of any kind of solid explanation. I mean, some people may argue that him finding some window or a manhole is bullshit, but that would still be far better of an explanation than him saying "i got lucky" and omitting any details.

  • Yeah pretty much he has been taking hits for 2 years and pretty much finally had enough and released his steam

  • He's still reeling from the events of S1, particularly losing his family and friends. Kenny's already established to be an explosive individual: when he's angry, he's prone to playing the blame game and flipping out at the people around him. His temper in S2 is just an extension of his already fractured mind.

Besides the vagueness of Kenny's "I got lucky" comment, I thought it was perfectly believable for Kenny to survive either one of the scenarios in S1. Hell, Lee proved it was possible to fight your way through a crowd of walkers without getting bitten once.

Seriously, people. It's time to LET GO.

  • Yes gotta get used to it I guess :)

  • I feel that the explanation was bad, but I totally believe it was at least possible for him to survive (The dark building more so than the alleyway).

  • It was glitching out on me. The menu was all jumbled and going from top to bottom in the center of the screen (instead of what we see now left to right). It was a mess for a bit and everything was hard to read considering Jet Stream Sam's face was blocking everything.

I think Season Two was ruined by Kenny's presence, the entire season felt like it turned into a pity party for him. I don't think he should of come back.

  • It wouldn't have made sense for Kenny to explain in exact detail how he got out. Clementine wasn't there. All she knew is he got lost somewhere along the way.

That's precisely what I'm referring to. That's why I said 'the explanation' for his return, not the fact that he returned.

I assumed Kenny fans would have wanted to know how he got out.

  • 'I got lucky, real lucky' is not just 'not exact detail', its the vaguest thing they basically could have said.

  • Clem didn't need to know specifics. Based on Kenny's treatment of Clem, he still thought she was a child, and thought maybe how he got out was too much for her.

I have no love for a farcical joke of a character that returns with no explanation. Once Kenny came back, not only had the progress of every supporting character halt entirely. But the gluttonous dick eventually started hogging time and agency away from Clementine, and I got no patience for that bullshit.

Kenny is literally an EMP, his mere presence completely disrupts anything bright and intelligible in the plot.

  • The only problem with him being alive after his sacrifice at the end of S1 -especially if you got Ben's ending- is that it raises the question: Why didn't he try to get Lee's attention after escaping? Maybe he didn't want to get the walkers attention, but it seems quite strange that after that daring escape he just ran and ran the fuck away and never considered talking to Lee again.

Hey, I get it. It works wonderfully in S1. It's emotional. It's well done. It closes a character arc. And I get the lack of explanation, I like when movies are more vague or misterious instead of spilling everything out for you in neverending exposition. But still... I don't know, I guess I'm not thinking nothing new or original but it still puzzles me.

They could have easily worked the "I got lucky" thing into an explanation as well. As an example:

"Christa got in a hell of a mess. I tried giving her a hand and then it got... messier. For a minute there it wasn't looking too good for ol' Kenny. I ended up in this office full of 'em, right? I couldn't see a damn thing, but somehow, I managed to find the door. It was a tight squeeze, but I was able to push through 'em, and back out to the streets. Wasn't able to find the 'cavalry' though, heh. Truth be told, I shouldn't have ever gotten outta there, nevertheless Savannah. But... well, I dunno... 'guess I got lucky."

Not perfect, but you get the idea. Give a low-down of the situation (like he does), have him mention getting out, have him lament that he shouldn't have gotten out of there, but nonetheless managed to.

I knew he would come back but did they really have to say " I thought you were dead" in the preview for Episode 2? Too obvious really. I thought the I got lucky line was an insult to the player

  • I assumed Kenny fans would have wanted to know how he got out.

    Apparently, though, I'm wrong.

Of course I'd love to know the precise details of how Kenny escaped from Savannah, but this was Clementine's story, and going off on a tangent about Kenny's adventures between seasons would have probably taken up a good chunk of screentime. The writers obviously expected the player to have enough imagination to fill in the gaps; Sarita mentioned how she came across Kenny holed up inside an abandoned restaurant, and makes a remark about his beard, indicating he was in a deranged, semi-feral state at the time she found him. The implication here is that we were probably better off NOT knowing.

You've been going on about this for ages, Flog. Just stop already. Find some other plot hole to criticize for the rest of the year, please.

  • Um, I really haven't been going on about this. Other people speak way more often about 'I got lucky' than I do. In fact, I don't remember ever discussing the specific issue of his wording before.

I'm not saying 'precise details' would be what everyone wants. I'm saying more than 'I got lucky'. Maybe 'Molly saved me'.
