In Season 3, will A.J. still be a baby or will he be a toddler?

When TWD S3 comes out, will they keep A.J. as a newborn baby or will he be a full grown toddler already knowing his first word?

They can only go so far in the TWD timeline, so he might be a toddler, but they wouldn't be able to go any further than that :(

But, I think he'll still be a baby.

  • No, he'll still be a baby, I only see them jumping a few months at the beginning of Season 3.

  • Still a bay, I don't think season 3 will have a time skip, and if it does it'll only be like 2 months

  • Dead or gone, hopefully.

  • With their track record, not too unbelievable. Hell maybe they won't even explain it. xD

    Dead or gone, hopefully.

  • He will be a roast.

  • He'll be in the trash where a good plot device belongs

  • I think he'll be a dead baby. :(

Whoa...seriously? I never liked Sarah as a character that much, but wishing death upon a baby, even a fictional one, seems a tad excessive.

Besides, this is TWD we're talking about. Chances are your wish will be granted anyway, so there's no need to post requests to make Kirkman's universe even darker than it already is.

AJ is hardly a character, he's a contrived plot device to further Kenny's character. Now that he's dead on my story, AJ has zero reason to exist.

And AJ is infuriating as a non-character anyway because his time and presence in No Going Back directly took agency away from Clementine. Because the episode was somewhat about getting AJ somewhere safe when it wasn't about Kenny whining about him or some other dumb shit, which is a stupid objective anyway seeing as though he would've scientifically died during child birth.

AJ is terrible, and I hope he's not around for long in season three.

Not sure what Sarah has to do with this, but I'd throw AJ to the walkers, no regrets, if it meant saving Sarah. Or saving anyone that wasn't either Kenny or a direct antagonist, for that matter...

I mean, of course I wouldn't be okay with an actual baby dying, but it's not as though AJ is a baby. Or anything even resembling a baby. He's an inanimate bundle of pixels with superhuman immunity to disease, cold, and hunger that makes baby noises every so often just to remind you he's not a block of wood the group decided to carry around.

AJ wasn't the only character to serve a purpose. Pete existed for Nick. Rebecca existed for AJ. Carver existed for the cabin group. And so on. I don't get how it sidetracked Clem. There was point as well. That's like saying there was no point for Carver after the cabin group.

EDIT: Reworded it. Little tired, sorry. It's late.

First: Accusing a baby of having "no character" is a little low. It's hard to be more than a plot device when you can't even talk for yourself yet. Secondly, it's obvious you're allowing your psychotic hatred of Kenny to contaminate your view of AJ. He's the last remaining "survivor" of the cabin group, and his immediate execution would only bring about the same bile and criticism set in motion by Sarah's death.

I'm starting to see why you went with Jane's scenario. So practical on the surface, yet so stupid when you dig a little deeper.

Many fans were crying out for Sarah's head before episode 2 even arrived. Now that she's gone, the same fans are now decrying the way she was bumped off. I just feel the hypocrisy is somewhat nauseating, just like the eagerness you're displaying at the hope of seeing a baby die as soon as possible.

So's Kenny, and yet you consistently exhibit murderous impulses at a character that's little more than "a bundle of pixels." Make up your damn mind.

The next time you make a personal judgement as to who should live, and who should be eaten alive by a horde of rotting cannibals, you should probably remember there's always someone else who's just as ready to do the same to YOU.

Huh, I wasn't aware that some people who once hated Sarah now feel bad about her death. Pretty good news, if you ask me. As for myself, I've always supported her. In fact, now that I think about it, I've rarely had any drastic changes in opinion on any characters outside of Carley, Kenny and Clem :/

So's Kenny what? A bundle of pixels? At least Kenny exhibits behaviours and traits that resemble those of a human. Someone the player is capable of sympathizing and understanding on some level, and thus feel empathy for. Meanwhile, people care about AJ because... he's a baby? He's not though, really. He acts nothing like a baby. He just looks like a baby. He's more the concept of a baby than an actual baby, fictional or not. It's gonna take more than superficial looks to gain my empathy.

Here's the thing. I would've cared much more about AJ if I'd been convinced he was an actual baby. If he'd cried incessantly whenever he was hungry or cold, if it had taken more than 2 seconds of making stupid faces to calm him down, if he'd actually reacted to getting zombie guts getting splattered over his face, if he'd done anything that a real baby would've done, I honestly would've genuinely cared for him on some level regardless of how much more annoying a realistic baby would've been compared to the AJ we got.

And I really have no idea what your argument is. Perhaps I wasn't clear, but all I'm saying is that I give so little shits about AJ, baby prop extraordinaire, that I'd let him die to save almost literally anyone else in the game.

They all had definitive traits and characteristics. And the whole "it's a baby, it's not developed" is not a good argument. Because babies typically have reactions to situations and have a conscious.

AJ cried for five seconds just to let us know he was even there, a not-so-friendly reminder mind you. The blistering cold, all the commotion and gunfire ringing through his ears at all times of the day, hunger, apparently being thrown a few feet from his mothers' lap, etc. All this had no effect on him, I mean "it." Because "it" is the only thing to describe him as an emotionless puppet to act as a salvageable trait so that the final lazily shit out choice could be implemented.

He's an anti-character. Something thrown in at the last minute to cover the asses of the writers' faulty and extremely unintelligible final act. He's noting but a stitch in the hands of a child trying to put together dad's overalls but he doesn't know shit so the stitch gets lodged into his finger.

I'll just paste what I've responded below.

And the whole "it's a baby, it's not developed" is not a good argument. Because babies typically have reactions to situations and have a conscious.

Babies have been known to react to things like hunger, sleepiness, sickness, etc. Not so with plot device AJ. He just keeps on truckin' without so much as a squeak. That's called lazy writing.

Secondly, it's obvious you're allowing your psychotic hatred of Kenny to contaminate your view of AJ. He's the last remaining "survivor" of the cabin group, and his immediate execution would only bring about the same bile and criticism set in motion by Sarah's death

He didn't have to be a "survivor" or the last of the "survivors" if TellTale fucking gave characters a little air and development and stopped killing them five minutes after they were introduced. It's hard to get attached to any character when they die after three sentences. But now this is a whole 'nother topic.

I'm starting to see why you went with Jane's scenario. So practical on the surface, yet so stupid when you dig a little deeper.

You couldn't be more incorrect. I went off alone, because I, much like you don't particularly care for Jane's dumbass self.

Here's a question, why is it that so many Kenny fans think everyone who hated Kenny went off with Jane? Like I can't dislike both? This is now the nineteenth or so time I've explained I went off alone and that I don't care for Jane.

  • Yes, because it's completely unfair on the infant's part. It just got born, and like you and me when we were little, depends on grown people to survive. It can't even crawl let alone speak. It literally did nothing wrong other than existing, so it's considered a nuisance. IMO it's dumb to hate the baby for that.

Not-so friendly? Uhhh.... yeah. Okay.... Anyway, moving on. Well obviously the writers had no clue how which circumstance can affect the baby. Otherwise they wouldn't have brought some of that stuff. Emotionless? You just mentioned it cried. Crying is an emotion. Every baby cries, laughs, plays, etc. No exceptions. AJ IS salvageable because if he gets the chance to grow up he could possibly be something to the world. Like without babies, where would the entire human race be? Dead or as walkers.

Correction; he's been around since the beginning. Only within Rebecca's stomach at first. He wasn't "thrown in at the last moment". Yes, yes I get it. Season 2 was a disaster. In your eyes.

  • I'm not talking about AJ as a baby. He's a thinly disguised plot nuisance for Kenny's character arc and was created exclusively for the final choice. TellTale hoped they could shoehorn a baby that never cry's or makes sounds or anything that every baby does and doesn't need food or warmth or medical supplies to stabilize his immune system in the freezing cold and bait people into caring for him just cause he's a baby.

He's a story development leech, nothing more. In terms of his purpose in the narrative, he has less than any other character in the franchise so far and if TT want's to actually bring the story back, they'll get rid of him fast.

  • All I know is that in Season 1 I cared about Clementine from start to finish and I was strongly motivated to protect and raise her throughout the entire game. She broke the barrier of child NPCs in games and instead of just protecting her because she was just a kid and we had to I felt emotionally connected and cared. AJ reintroduces the "he's a kid you have to protect him" thing that Season 1 worked so hard to go against. I don't care about AJ he's a plot device for bad shit to happen he means nothing to me whatsoever

Because you just see AJ as a thing.

I suppose you just have an obsessive hatred for Kenny to make you think that. Sigh, such a pity.

You're contradicting yourself. Before you said "AJ cried for five seconds just to let us know he was even there, a not-so-friendly reminder mind you." now you say "shoehorn a baby that never cry's". Make up your mind, please. And he has made sounds, needed food, needed warmth, needed medicine. Pretty sure you're just remembering the parts that made you cringe. And they won't always show that stuff, there's a thing called 'time skip' or 'off-screen' for a reason.

bait people into caring for him just cause he's a baby.

    Yep, can't take this seriously.

  • I wanna see what they can do with him if he were a toddler. I know he's just a fictional character that doesn't actually exist, but I can't believe the boiling, burning, steaming hatred some people have for him. Seriously, he's just a baby.

  • EXACTLY! There are characters in TWD that did far worse things than just for the sake of even existing. Like murdering, torturing, raping, cannibalism, etc. The hate is just, if not, more rediculous than the hate Sarah recieved. I mean, Jesus, are you fucking kidding me?

  • If it were up to me I would have located a stable community to give the baby away to a loving family, seeing how Clementine and Kenny/Jane aren't really fit to look after a baby at this point.

I'd rather not have the baby be killed off, especially as a walker bait, but I don't really see the need to have a baby in the story if there is no purpose or payoff.

It really seems like you don’t understand why some people don’t care about AJ. The issue isn’t that people want a baby to die, the issue is that AJ is not a baby. Or more specifically, Telltale failed to convince players that AJ is a baby.

I’ve mentioned this in a previous post, but I would’ve genuinely cared for AJ had he acted like an actual baby, incessant crying and all. Sure, that would’ve been more annoying than the AJ we got, but at least he would’ve been genuine. AJ was basically one of those plastic baby dolls that can blink and have a built-in crying function, and my empathy for dolls is understandably limited.

The “he’s a baby, you’re required to care about him” line of thinking only works if the player is convinced that the character in question is, in fact, a baby.

Hell, No Going Back could’ve been better with a realistic baby. Things would’ve been more tense if the player constantly had to be wary of AJ crying and endangering the group, and had to reallly work to keep him calm. The possibility of AJ freezing/starving to death should’ve carried more weight and had more focus, because besides Kenny’s offhand mention of “we have a day’s worth of baby food”, no one seems to think twice about AJ’s well-being at all. If the characters aren't too bothered by AJ starving/freezing, why should I?

  • Lol. My first playthrough i did that too, then went back to change it one i realized we Had to look after him.

  • I don't think hey can kill him off, since the game ending currently revolves around him, plus every ending he was alive so hopefully he stays so. But you never know with Telltale. :/

    I think he'll be a dead baby.

  • Well said its not that we're feeding off of a child dying its that he only exists as a generic plot tool to ensue chaos. He'd just be better out of the story
