Did anyone leave Sara in the trailer?

I hate to admit it, but I did. I was too scarred from my Carly/Doug experience in season 1 and I thought that if I stuck around to save her that Jane or Luke would've gotten killed. And since I'd tried everything to toughen up Sara to no avail and I was a much bigger fan of both Luke and Jane at the time, I left.
After learning that she still dies no matter what I feel slightly less guilty but I was always curious to know the reasoning behind other people's decisions.

  • Well I don't think you have to feel guilty about it considering most people who do leave her do it for the fact that they want to see her ripped to pieces, and find her death funny. :P

I thought saving her was going to get Jane eaten too, actually. (I saved Sarah anyway, but whatever.)

I'm pretty sure the majority didn't leave her (Like 70% or something) but most who did apparently did so just because they wanted her to die out of spite.

  • No i dont leave Sarah in the trailer i try to save her

    Yes, sadly. Not me though.

  • Exactly what the writers were aiming for at the time. Too bad for them the majority chose to save Sarah.

  • Yup. They thought the entire fandom hated Sarah just because they did, and that simply wasn't the case. .3.

  • I knew Sarah was going to die one way or another. I just hate the fact that even if you teach her how to protect herself, she never ends up doing so. I didn't leave her there but I knew she was going to die later.

  • Oh man, this thread is gonna start a war. Eh the fire has already started, may as well add to it - I left her behind because I thought she was annoying and a burden. So no, you are not alone.

  • i did not leave her, she just need some guidance and clem was that rock for sarah, atleast in my playthrough, i was sarah's friend and i made a promise, she had so much potential for a redemption. and i think TWD writers gave up on her soon, but my clem didnt and it was a shame that she died 10 minutes later. that made me so mad!

  • I left Sarah in the trailer. Tried to help her at first; thought that with a bit of time she'd grow some thicker skin and move on.

But Sarah was just traumatized by Carlos' death - she wasn't functioning right. Saving her the trouble of surviving in such harsh conditions seemed like the best choice for her, at the time.

  • Meh, you don't really even teach her how to protect herself, all you do is show her how to hold a gun and tell her that "it's just a thing".

I knew Sarah was going to die one way or another. I just hate the fact that even if you teach her how to protect herself, she never ends up doing so. I didn't leave her there but I knew she was going to die later.

  • The way that i look at Sarah is that she is an alternate of Clems story.

Carlos did her a disservice by coddling her in a world where death is literally around every corner. By keeping her from seeing the worst, or at least knowing the possibilities, he prevented her from being able to adapt as Clem has. And so, when Carlos was no longer there to sheild her, she falls apart.

I think Telltale did a good job of showing us in season 1 how Lee made decisions throughout about how much to tell her, how much to let her participate, whether to lie to protect her or tell the truth to prepare her. When to demand obedience and when to take Her advice/help. We know that some characters we meet disagree with us on how we are raising her for different reasons and some like Chuck think We're not doing enough.

The difference in Clem and Sarah comes because one had a protector that got it. The world is what it is now, there's no guarantees, and if you want to survive you have to fight. Lee made sure that Clem would know how to take care of herself if he wasn't around. But Carlos ened up making Sarah reliant on him to survive. (Not saying he did it on purpose)

  • Well, last time I looked at the statistics, you and 30% of players left Sarah in the trailer park.

So yes, other people did leave Sarah, for reasons we don't know.

  • I'll be honest about this: I left Sarah. I thought that maybe if I tried to save her one of the other characters might die, and I obviously put Luke/Jane ahead of her. But also, she was a mess: there was no way she could survive, whether you saved her from the trailer or not, and I was proven right on that as she dies later on. After Carlos' death she couldn't take it anymore, and perhaps it was kinder to let her die than try to drag her around (plus she put others in danger, and let us remember that this game is set in a survival genre- so it's natural logic to save the many by letting go of the few). She ran out of road, and from Episode 3 onwards there was no way she could live any longer. It didn't stop me feeling bad when I left her to die, but in the end it was the best decision to make at the time. Would I change that decision now? Well, it's determinant so it doesn't matter whether you save her or not.

  • Thing is, even without Carlos as a shield I don't think Sarah would've coped like Clementine or Becca could. She had a variety of issues and was, overall, a completely different person. Even if Carlos had been tough with her, she wouldn't have been able to cope.

I think your pretty much spot on though. Carlos and Lee were both doing what they thought was best, and I think both realised the dire situation the world was in, but there approaches were very different and, In the end, Lee's was a lot better for Clementine. But I also think it helped that Clementine was a lot younger- her character wasn't moulded, so she could grow used to everything around her and the situation she was in. But Sarah was older- was she 14?- and her character would've been much harder to reshape so it could suit a survival scenario. Not to mention, as I already said, that she has a number of issues.

Maybe Sarah is a bit of a comparison to what Clementine could've ended up as had Lee shielded her from everything. Thanks to Lee, Clementine knew how to survive; but Sarah was pretty much doomed, and it was only a matter of time before she got someone else killed or she herself died. Actually, I find it quite ironic then when Carlos says to Clem "Your lucky your not my daughter" and Clem responds with "Thank god"- I don't think there's any intentional meaning behind the lines, but I still find it sort of symbolic.

  • Sarah was always going to end up dead, no question about that, but they could've handled the death better. Maybe you could have left her in the fourth episode, but then if you save her Arvo shoots her in the next episode instead of Clem? Not a great suggestion I know, but just an idea.

  • Letting her die out of spite would be pretty harsh. And, though some people did hate her (which I just don't understand at all), I think a lot of people left her because they thought someone else could die. I didn't really hate Sarah or let her die out of spite- I was more frustrated with Sarah than hating her, and in the end I left her for rational reasons. And plus, it doesn't really matter whether you leave her or not- she dies anyway, which kinda sucks

  • I did hate her, but I didn't think she deserved to die. I mean, she didn't hurt anyone. Not directly, anyway.

I tried to help Sarah best i could, she wasn't broken, or too far gone. She was a **child ** who just watched her father die in front of her, i think she has the right to be a little upset.

  • I'm one of those that didn't try to save her in the trailer because to me she was a risk to our lives and I didn't want to save her and lose Jane or Luke. The sooner she was gone, the better and yes the only thing I was disappointed in during that scene was they didn't show enough of her being killed.. I never hated Sarah at all, but I didn't care for her because I knew she would die eventually and I wanted to see it happen.

  • I clicked that "leave Sarah" option faster than the speed of light.

  • I'm ambivalent about saving Sarah. On my first playthru I saved her

  • No Sarah gets left behind...even if she dies about an hour into the game.

  • I saved Sarah from the trailer. I thought the character could make the story more interesting if she lived longer the same way Ben made the story better if you save him with Lee.. In addition to that I also liked Sarah as well as Luke from the Cabin group they were both interesting and could have brought out season 2 a ton better if they had been utilized and handled better nothing made much sense in season 2 anyway. But hey the improved graphics get a couple cool points.

I also thought they could have developed Sarah to transform into a more capable and useful best friend to Clementine. Honestly if there were a choice to save Jane or Sarah like I thought it was coming to when Jane was hanging from that deck, I would have saved Sarah over Jane. I do not believe in picking on the less fortunate weak and or handicapped nor leaving them for doom because they are not as strong as others.

  • They should have had the option that she wants to leave, but you push her back down into the trailer to be eaten telling her "You're a threat to the group"

Troll post in response to some people's reasoning for leaving her to die a horrible death.

  • I dunno why you ...... leave her like that. Just because you like Jane and Luke, she is burden? Screw THAT. PEOPLE ARE STILL IN DANGER WITHOUT HER. JANE AND LUKE WERE THE ONES WHO PUT THE GROUP IN DANGER. THEY ALMOST SCREWED EVERYONE. SCREW JANE, SHE NEEDED TO DIE A LONG TIME AGO.

  • She was going to die later on in the episode anyways so.....

  • I do know but leaving her at the trailer... that means Clementine isn't Clementine anymore.

  • Even if it's just delaying what i know is inevitable, i always save her

Arvo would have have no reason to hoot her in the next episode, unless Sarah killed Natasha (or Arvo presumes she did). I personally think it should have been done in the gunfight, it definitely would have added something.

Sarah was always going to end up dead, no question about that, but they could've handled the death better. Maybe you could have left her in

I've only played Amid the Ruins once, and I did try to pull her sorry ass out of the trailer.

Sarah is such a boring character though that when she did inevitable bite the dust, I felt worse over the fact the game tricked me into trying to feel compelled to rescue such an anemic bore that never showed any development or did anything and less sad that she was killed off only to make way for that shit plot loop AJ.

Sarah was, ultimately, the biggest waste of potential in season two by far.

  • I didn't because sarah was a sweet person I helped her out of the trailer

  • I saved her but it also made me mad that I had to put Jane in danger to do so after that I didn't care what she did.
