Telltale Company Closure + TWD Final Season's Status FAQ

    (1) I heard Telltale closed their studio in September 2018. How are future episodes being completed if Telltale is closing?

Skybound Games is stepping in to offer assistance for Telltale Games to finish the original remaining episodes (Episodes 3 and 4) as planned. Some of the original staff who worked on episodes 1 and 2 are being contracted by Skybound Games to finish the game.

After the company closure back in 2018, the rest of the Season will be resumed by Skybound Games starting with the release of Episode 3 on January 15th, 2019.

    (2) I need assistance for Support with The Walking Dead: The Final Season. How can I get support after Telltale closed?

As of January 2019, (post-Telltale company closure), Skybound Games will be handling Support inquiries. Contact the Skybound Support Team via email at help@skybound.com

Telltale's old Support pages for "The Final Season" (or older Telltale titles) are still currently up on the Support section, but Telltale Support is no longer updating Support pages or taking tickets/emails as of the September 2018 Company Closure. You can now contact Skybound Games' Support Team if you need direct assistance.

    (3) I purchased The Walking Dead: The Final Season on Steam, but I saw that the game is now being sold only on Epic Games Store. Do I still get the rest of the episodes on Steam?

As long as you purchased the game on Steam while it was still available to be purchased, you still get all the episodes as they release at no extra cost. Epic Games Store is now the location for future purchases of the game, but customers who bought the game already on Steam will still get the rest of their episodes too.

The Walking Dead - The Final Season (Season 4) Original FAQ

    (1) When does the Final Season release?

The first episode premiered in August 2018. Consult the Waiting Threads to find individual Episode release dates.

    (2) Who is the playable character?

Clementine will return for Season 4 as the playable character.

    (3) How many episodes will The Final Season have?

The Final Season has four episodes.

    (4) How do I import saves from previous Seasons?

You can import saves from previous Seasons using a few methods:

    1) Import your 'A New Frontier' save file
    2) Import your 'The Walking Dead Collection' save file
    3) Create a save file using the Walking Dead Story Generator (either in game or on Telltale's website)

You can read more about the save process on Telltale's Support article: https://telltale.com/support/article/twd4-save-import/

    (5) What platforms is 'The Final Season' releasing on?

The Final Season will release on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

Unlike previous Telltale series, The Walking Dead: The Final Season will not be releasing on mobile platforms.

    (6) How much will each episode cost?

For 'The Final Season', all episodes will be purchased in one Season Pass as opposed to individual episode purchases. The price of the Season Pass varies by country, but averages around $20 USD.

    (7) I'm new to all that episodic game stuff. How are they doing this?

You can expect to receive a new episode roughly every six weeks. Each episode contains an individual part of a story that is held together through a narrative that connects all of the episodes together into what Telltale calls a season. Think along the lines of a serialized television series such as Lost. An episode usually lasts about as long as a good movie would.

    A New Frontier FAQ

    (1) What is The Walking Dead: A New Frontier?

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is the third Season of Telltale's Walking Dead series. It was first announced at Comic Con 2014, shortly before the release of the final episode of The Walking Dead: Season Two. Like its predecessor, it will be a full fledged sequel that won't require the other seasons to play that will an episodic game based on moral choices that is set in the universe of Robert Kirkman's comic book series, The Walking Dead. A New Frontier will act both as a continuation of Seasons 1 and 2, as well as a new entry point for players who have not played previous Seasons.

    (2) Will Robert Kirkman be involved with the game?

Almost certainly. He was involved in making sure the characters and story stayed true to The Walking Dead universe for Season One and Season Two, so it's very likely he'll be back in a similar role for Season Three.

    (3) When will 'A New Frontier' be released?

Consult the Episode Waiting Threads to see release dates for each episode.

    (4) For which platforms will 'A New Frontier' be available?

A New Frontier will release on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, iOS and Android

    (5) Will the decisions I made in Season One, 400 Days, Season Two, and Michonne carry over to A New Frontier?

Your endings from Season 2 will tailor your version of Clementine's story in 'A New Frontier' via the Season 2 Save Import System.

    (6) How much will A New Frontier cost?

The Season Pass for A New Frontier will cost $25, which amounts to the typical price of $5 per Episode (with five episodes in this Season).

    (7) I'm new to Telltale. How do "Episodic" games work?

With a bit of patience, they do work. You can expect to receive a new episode roughly every 4-6 weeks. The way this works is each individual episode contains an individual part of a story that is held together through a narrative that connects all of the episodes together into what Telltale calls a season.

    (8) How many episodes will there be in A New Frontier?

A New Frontier will have five episodes, as a typical Season does.

    (9) Will the different platforms for season three release simultaneously?

Almost. Telltale works to typically have episodes premiere across all platforms within the same week if they can.

    (10) Telltale has so many games in development. Will this affect the quality or development time of this game?

No. Since the success of Walking Dead: Season 1, Telltale has sized up from 70 people to near 350 people, and now have five times the amount of staff members they had during Season 1, so multiple projects at once should not be a concern. They now have a big enough staff to work on four projects at once as well as extra staff members to work on side projects.

To see what current and future projects Telltale are working on, follow our "Future of Telltale FAQ" thread for frequent updates!

    (11) For which languages will season three be available?

Only English is certain at first (as that is the original language as written by the Telltale writing staff).

    (12) Will there be a bonus/free collector's DVD version for season three available from the Telltale store?

This is unlikely, as Telltale has mostly moved on from selling physical merchandise in their store.

    The Walking Dead: Michonne FAQ

    (1) What is The Walking Dead: Michonne?

The Walking Dead: Michonne is a three episode miniseries based on The Walking Dead following the comic character Michonne, that takes place in the time frame when she is missing in the comics. It was originally announced as downloadable content, but it was confirmed that it is its own, separate, game that won't require any of the previous games in the series to play.

    (2) Was Robert Kirkman involved with the game?

Yes. The Walking Dead: Michonne was announced jointly by Skybound and Telltale Games to tie Telltale's games more into the comic series. It also tells the story of what happens to a major character in the comic universe during the time she was absent from the comics. So, as the Letter Hacks column of The Walking Dead revealed, Robert Kirkman worked closely with Telltale's writing staff to make sure that the game fits with the story, characters, and timeline of the comic.

    (3) So, if it has Michonne in it, is it based on the TV show, rather than the universe of Telltale's other games based on The Walking Dead?

No, it's not based on the character of Michonne from the TV show, but rather the character from the comics. Michonne is voiced by a different actress in Telltale's game than the actress who portrays her in the television show, and her model is based on the character of the comic, rather than the actress from the show.

Telltale's games have always tied into the comic universe, ever since Season One, where Lee and Clementine met the comic version of Glenn, as well as Herschel and Shawn Greene. The Walking Dead: Michonne is meant to tie the comic universe in closer with Telltale's game universe. It still takes place in the same universe as Telltale's The Walking Dead: Season One, 400 Days, and Season Two, however it will explain what happened to Michonne when she left the group in the comics, in a similar way as to how Telltale's The Walking Dead: Season One showed what happened to Shawn and Hershel Greene, as well as a bit of what happened to Glenn at the start of the zombie apocalypse, before they met Rick's group in the comics.

    (4) So if it's based on the comics, will I need to have read the comics to understand the plot? Will I still enjoy the game if I have not?

During an E3 interview, Job Stauffer (Telltale's PR Manager) said that you will not have had to have read the comics to enjoy the game, but it will help if you do. According to Telltale, the story takes place between issues #126 and #139 of the Walking Dead comic. This places the beginning of the story about two years into the apocalypse, which is roughly during the same time as the events in Telltale's The Walking Dead: Season Two.

    (5) Why doesn't Michonne have her katana?

When Michonne left Rick's group, she left her katana behind as well. She is instead wielding a machete.

    (6) Are any other comic characters appearing besides Michonne?

Yes. Pete and Siddiq, relatively minor characters in the comics, also appear.

    (7) Will I need The Walking Dead: Season One or Season Two to play?

No. It was released as its own standalone game. You don't require any previous games in the series to play The Walking Dead: Michonne.

    (8) So, since it has been announced as "standalone", does that mean that it is in it's own continuity that won't tie into Telltale's other games?

No, the fact that it was announced as "standalone" simply means that it doesn't require any previous game to play (it was originally announced as downloadable content for The Walking Dead Season Two, so that's why the standalone announcement was made).

It takes place in the same universe as The Walking Dead: Season One, 400 Days, and Season Two. That means that there is a possibility for events and/or characters from The Walking Dead: Michonne to be referenced and/or shown in The Walking Dead: Season Three (although, this is just a possibility at this point, as nothing has been confirmed).

    (9) Does the Walking Dead: Michonne use save files from previous The Walking Dead games?

No. Previous save files are not required or used for The Walking Dead: Michonne.

    (10) Will the decisions I made in The Walking Dead: Michonne carry over to Season Three?

This is unknown, but it is certainly possible. The story is implied to be more self-contained than 400 Days was.

    (11) What are the names of the episodes in this miniseries?

The first is "In Too Deep", the second is "Give No Shelter", and the third is "What We Deserve".

    (12) How much does the "Michonne" mini series cost?

All three episodes in the miniseries will be available for purchase at the cost of $14.99 USD or equivalent, including access to the second and third episodes as they become available. Prices might vary per platform.

    (13) When was it released?

The first episode is scheduled to be released on February 23, 2016 on PC/Mac from the Telltale Online Store, Steam, and other digital distribution services, the PlayStation®Network for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, the Xbox Games Store for Xbox One® and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, followed by a release on compatible iOS devices via the App Store, and Android-based devices via Google Play and the Amazon App Store starting February 25th.

The second episode in the miniseries, 'Give No Shelter,' followed in the month of March, and conclude with the third episode, 'What We Deserve,' in April.

    (14) For which languages is the miniseries available?

Only English is certain at first (as that is the original language as written by the Telltale writing staff). There is no word on what languages the miniseries will be translated to or when they will be available, but historically Telltale has released their translations towards the end of the season.

    (15) Will there be a bonus/free collector's DVD version for the miniseries available from the Telltale store?

This is unlikely, since bonus DVDs are usually announced before the beginning of the season, when pre-orders begin.

    Season Two FAQ

    (1) What is The Walking Dead: Season Two?

The Walking Dead: Season Two is a full fledged sequel, and doesn't require the first season of The Walking Dead to play. Like the original game, it is an episodic game based on moral choices that is set in the universe of Robert Kirkman's comic book series, The Walking Dead. It takes place many months after the events of No Time Left and features Clementine (the young girl Lee Everett took under his care in the first season) as the playable character.

    (2) Is Robert Kirkman involved with the game?

According to his 2014 Reddit "Ask Me Anything" session, Robert Kirkman was more involved in the first season, as he personally approved the story of season one. For Season Two, he is less involved, but he still is there to make sure the characters and story stay true to the greater universe of The Walking Dead.

    (3) When were the episodes for season two released?

Episode 1 "All That Remains" - PC/Mac and PSN North America: December 17th, 2013; Xbox / PSN EU / iOS: December 18th, Vita: April 22nd, 2014 North America, April 23rd EU; Kindle Fire and Amazon Fire TV: May 10th; Android: June 25th; Xbox One/PlayStation 4 North America: October 21, 2014; Xbox One/PlayStation 4 Europe: October 24, 2014.

Episode 3 "In Harm's Way" - PC/Mac and PSN North America: May 13, 2014; Xbox / PSN EU: May 14th; iOS: May 15th; Vita: June 3rd NA, June 4th EU; Kindle Fire and Amazon Fire TV: June 5th; Android: June 25th; Xbox One/PlayStation 4 North America: October 21, 2014; Xbox One/PlayStation 4 Europe: October 24, 2014.

Episode 5 "No Going Back" - PC/Mac and PSN/Vita North America: August 26th, 2014; Xbox / PSN EU: August 27th; iOS August 28th; Vita EU: September 3rd; Android/Kindle Fire and Amazon Fire TV: September 17th; Xbox One/PlayStation 4 North America: October 21, 2014; Xbox One/PlayStation 4 Europe: October 24, 2014.

    (4) For which platforms is season two available?

Season 2 is available for PC/Mac, PS 3 via PSN and disc, Xbox 360 via XBL and disc, iOS, and PS Vita, Kindle Fire (HD or HDX devices, 2nd generation and up), Amazon Fire TV, Android, Xbox One via XBL and disc, and PS4 via PSN and disc.

    (5) Will the decisions I made in season one and 400 Days carry over to season two?

Yes. Season Two can use the save files from Season One and 400 Days to have your decisions carry over to the new season, and it will prompt you to do so when you launch a new game in Season Two, at which point it will automatically scan for an S1/400 Days save file.

In order for this to work, you'll need to have your save-games on your PC/console, so if your S1 save game is on The Cloud, you'll need to transfer it back to your console for S2 to be able to read it.

    (6) How much does season two cost?

The usual Telltale Season price: $5 for one episode and a season pass option comprising all five episodes for $25. The price might vary per platform. On some platforms (like the PC), you can't buy the episodes individually and will have to buy the entire season at once.

    (7) How many episodes are there in season two?

There are five episodes in Season 2, just like in Season 1. Their titles are: All That Remains, A House Divided, In Harm's Way, Amid The Ruins, and No Going Back.

    (8) For which languages will season two be available?

Only English is certain at first (as that is the original language as written by the Telltale writing staff). There is no word on what languages season two will be translated to or when they will be available, but historically Telltale has released their translations towards the end of the season.

    (9) Will there be a bonus/free collector's DVD version for season two available from the Telltale store?

Yes, indeed. If you order from the Telltale Store, you get a Season Collector's DVD with the game and a cover with exclusive artwork mailed to you for the cost of postage & packaging - a little while after the Season is finished. You're only eligible to get this DVD if you order from the Telltale Store!

    (10) If I buy the game from someplace other than the Telltale store will I still get the collector's DVD?

No. The collector's DVD is only available for PC and Mac customers who order from the Telltale store.

    (11) What is on the collector's DVD from the Telltale store?

This time around there aren't any extras included, but you do get an exclusive cover that is digitally signed by Melissa Hutchison, the voice of Clementine.

    (12) Will a DLC episode be released for Season Two, like with 400 Days in Season One?

No. However, a three episode miniseries called The Walking Dead: Michonne will be released. This miniseries was originally announced as DLC for The Walking Dead: Season Two, however in late 2015, it was announced that it would be a standalone miniseries that would not require any other game to play.

    400 Days FAQ

400 Days is downloadable content for the first season of The Walking Dead. It is one episode that takes place during the first 400 days of the zombie outbreak and follows five different protagonists with five overlapping stories, telling how each one coped during the outbreak.

It costs $5 on each platform, and is purchased from within season one of The Walking Dead. People who purchased season one of The Walking Dead for PC and Mac from Telltale's store receive 400 Days free of charge as thanks from ordering directly from Telltale's website (this only applies to the PC and Mac version at Telltale's store. Steam users will have to purchase 400 Days separately). The PlayStation Vita bundle includes all of season one and 400 days in one package. The Walking Dead Game of the Year Edition for Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 also includes 400 Days as part of the package.

    (3) Do the decisions I made in season one carry over to 400 Days?
