Do you feel like season 2 changed the feelings of season 1?

edited June 2015 in The Walking Dead

Do you feel like season 2 kinda ruined the feeling of season 1? Like everybody fell in love with season 1 and the characters. I loved it and I was fine leaving it at that, but season 2 was announced and I wanted more. telltale took quite a big risk. Don't get me wrong, I liked season 2, but season 1 felt more close to me and "original" I guess. Idk how to really put it. Do you think season 2 ruined the series? Made it better? Do you think season 3 will be the same?

  • Season 2 had different writers so chances are they weren't gonna have an exact understanding of what made Season 1 so great. I wouldn't say the second season ruined the entire series. In fact, I really enjoyed Season 2. It's not the strongest to come out of the franchise, but it's still really good. I'm hoping Season 3 really good too. But there's no way to tell yet. Guess we're gonna have to wait until 2016.

  • No Season 2 was amazing it didn't ruin anything I know people have their issues about it but I loved it.

  • Yeah I agree, I really liked it as well

  • season 1 has most of like able characters for example: Carley,Kat,Doug,Mark,Lilly,Glenn,Kenny,Omid,Christa,Molly.

season 2 has SOME of the like able characters for example: Luke,Alvin,Pete,Rebecca,Sarita(I gusss),Nick.

  • Season 1 had a story where our choices mattered regarding character disposition.

Season 2 was a random story each episode with no choices mattering regarding character disposition because character personalities changed to suit the episode.

Season 1 had a cohesive story with an end game. Get to Savannah and get a boat.

Season 2 had a plot in Episode 5.

Season 1 you had an idea of what the writers were doing.

Season 2 you didn't have an idea what the writers were doing and were quite frankly wondering if they'd ever talked to each other while writing the series as everything was different each episode.

  • season 1 is a masterpiece,it's stunning,season 2 as a stand alone game is good,but it doesnt compare to S1.

  • I bought the walking dead season one right as season two was coming out (December 2013). And I became instantly hooked to season one and fell in love with the characters like you said. When Season two came out I only had to wait about a week after I finished season one, the wait felt agonizingly long back then but here I am now, waiting 1+ year for news of season 3. I got a little off topic, sorry. My point is, when you wait so long for something and it doesn't quite meet your expectation, even if it's near perfection, you get dissapointed. I think this is why I liked season 2 just as much, because I wasn't so hyped.

  • Season 2 was better because you can shoot Kenny.

Let's be honest, S2 is like... “The Kenny Show”

  • I thought S2 continued that special something from what S1 started. If anything, I think S2 is in more align with the comics (which are great btw) of how things continued to get dark and depressing, but kept trudging along. Little Clementine was such a huge bright spot in S1, talking and taking care of her, and if that disappeared we would get the same experience we had in S2 imo. Shit's bad and I like it that way, no matter what iteration of TWD.

  • But in S1 you can fight Kenny :D

  • Of course S2 doesn't seem as original and raw as S1...we've seen it before and we know all their tricks

  • I thought Season 2 was as good as season 1.

    Because Kenny was still there.

  • Yes I see what you mean, although I personally think I actually may prefer Season 2 but I believe you're right.

  • I see what you mean although be careful, nostalgia may contribute to your feelings that Season 1 is greater.
I actually played Season 2 before Season 1 so maybe I feel Season 2 is a little better just by the slight nostalgia factor, but then I played Season 1 and it was pretty great.

But in Season 1 episode 1 was weaker than the other episodes to me personally, and in Season 2 episode 4 was a little weak as well.
Both Seasons have their ups and downs but please people, don't make Telltale believe they may have done bad because they did amazing and I truly believe Clementine is The walking Dead mascot so I want to stick with her story s3

  • Season 2 obviously succeed because a lot of people enjoyed it so it didn't ruin the series but I feel it could've been done a lot better. When they did season one, that was ther main job, to do that so naturally it was made superb. When they started season two. They had the wolf amoung us, and now these two new games. If they kept their priority on just season two, it would've had more effort put into it. Things were good and then things were just awful I.e a lot of people's issues were the characters weren't as well developed as seasons ones, yet hey put a lot of attention and effort towards nick, then they pull one of the lazy, worst deaths in the series. It was a good season but could've been a lot better had they not turned their attention on multiple games at once.

  • I don't know why you seem to be hating on the character when it's telltales choice to bring a lot of attention on kenny. Don't forget, kenny came from a season that had more effort put into it so of course he would have a big role in season two. Also, I'm rather disappointed that had kenny Ve Jane at the end. Luke was more developed then her yet they chose her to be at the end. They built it up good with the whole kenny Vs Luke then he just drowns? I didn't like Luke but he was away more developed character then Jane.

Season 2 was better because you can shoot Kenny. Let's be honest, S2 is like... “The Kenny Show”

  • Season 1 felt like they (the old writers) put more effort into dialogue between characters, our choices (most of the time) felt like they mattered. Season 2 there were many choices that did not matter in the slightest. There was no Clem siding with say Luke Or Kenny (the dinner table scene in Episode 2 i thought was going to be the start of something) but it just didn't matter. In my honest opinion, Season 1 outclasses Season 2 in every way. But don't get me wrong, i still enjoyed Season 2 and it's story in general

  • Because Kenny is a shit character and never should have took a part in Season 2.

Whether it was Telltale's choice or not, I don't care because I have the right to express my discontent.

  • Shit how? Is this hate only because of season 2 or does it dig deeper .? I never said you didn't have a say, your words. I'm saying you hate a character who weather you want to admit or not, was better developed then any character in season two for what reason ?

  • Developed to the point of being boring.

What Kenny only did was cause more problems than the group can handle.

  • Season 2 felt like re-experiencing depression, but this time as a little girl.

  • Are you talking about season two or both? If season two, I can see your point hence why two wasn't developed that good but season one is bullshit. Kenny was in major key decisions that effected the game. Something tells me you're only bashing because probably being a Luke fan? Kenny got more screen time then him?

Developed to the point of being boring. What Kenny only did was cause more problems than the group can handle.

  • Me being a Luke fan has nothing to do with how I view Kenny.

I just find him(Kenny) annoying especially since I want everyone to be together until the end, but what happened?

    Kenny vs Jane.

  • Are you sure ? Because a lot people think had Kenny not returned, Luke would've got a bigger part. but did you find him like this in season one ? So you're blaming the character you seem to dislike the most over a ludicrous demand like that? Did you honestly think if Kenny wasn't around, everyone would've been at the end? Telltale would've killed them off or got rid of them with or without Kenny. They didn't care about bonnie, mike or arvo so they used Kenny as a reason why they lefted . Luke is not Kennys fault, blame arvo for that. Technically that was janes fault for baiting Kenny. So she's as much to blame.

Yep. If it wasn't for Kenny, then Carver wouldn't have been as harsh. Kenny likes to fuck people off, thus why he lost his eye as punishment.

They didn't care about bonnie, mike or arvo so they used Kenny as a reason why they lefted .

And how would you know that?

Luke is not Kennys fault, blame arvo for that. Technically that was janes fault for baiting Kenny. So she's as much to blame.

Arvo is not to blame. It's Kenny. Why? Well, I don't know if you would count physical abuse for one but Arvo didn't want Luke to fall down the frozen lake/river nor did he expect Luke to drown and die.

If only Kenny was careful with his actions then Arvo wouldn't have shot Clem—Bonnie, Mike and Arvo wouldn't have left, Jane wouldn't have to be a retard and think that getting Kenny angry would convince Clem.

    It's all about self-control.

  • That's like saying if clementine wasn't around, Ben wouldn't of died, lee wouldn't of got bit and Kenny, Christa and omid, wouldn't of got separated. As I said, if Kenny wasn't around , they would've thought of something else probably carver caving in Luke's face for sneaking around.

Well if telltale cared, they wouldn't of made them leave considering how much development went into them most of all trying to get sympathy for arvo after how Kenny treated him imo he deserved it. Obviously Kenny AND Jane were more important to them.

Yet Arvo decides to run when they are on top of the ice when everyone was walking? You can't blame kennys behaviour towards him for that. After all, ARvo was the one directing them. So clementine is trying to reason with mike and everything seems cool and then arvo for no reason shoots her? Most players blame arvo for that. She tricks a guy into thinking the baby is dead when she knows how much he has lost and it's his fault? That's clutching for straws at trying to blame him. I think given how much the guy lost we can forgive him I mean people forgive Sarah saying she lost her dad yet this guy can see his wife kill herself. Choice wise has to shoot his own kid and watch his girlfriend get killed.bitten then have to shoot her. I think that's s lot of shit to carry don't you think?

  • Maybe its just me but Season 2 made me like Season 1 less. I'm not sure why i mean i still like S1 more but Season 1's choices felt so mediocre and dull compared to Season 2's. I also found more shock value in S2. But who really knows.

  • I like Season 2 even more than season one, so it only made me like the series more.

  • i can't forgive Kenny, nor would I try again.

he caused the downfall of the group and Kenny deserved to be shot dead. Arvo can get past, as I felt pity to him whenever he gets picked on by Kenny.

  • Season 2 was great and all, but after re-watching play-throughs on YouTube, I realized even more that season 1 is a legend in gaming history. It just felt much more real compared to season 2 and after watching it a while back, I almost cried AGAIN! Gosh I wish I can experience the feeling I felt the first time I started watching this game again....ahh

I like Season 2 even more than season one, so it only made me like the series more.

  • but after re-watching play-throughs on YouTube, I realized even more that season 1 is a legend in gaming history.

I actually feel the exact opposite, the more I rewatch/replay it the more I feel like Season 1 hasn't aged very well. It was amazing the first time, but the replays just feel less and less like what I got from my first experience with it, where as with Season 2, it feels much more open to replayability than Season 1 does, at least through my experiences it does.

  • That was the point make him appear weak and feel sympathy. Keep in mind your blaming Jenny for the group falling apart yet you give pity to A guy who started that gunfight that resulted in Luke bring shot even if you didn't take his medicine . I suppose kennys to blame for that to? And he shot the main and most loved character but because he gets bullied he deserves pity? Seems legit

  • Looking back on it, season 2 honestly felt like a train wreck IMO.

Arvo tried to stop his fellow Russians to not shoot anyone.

It was Luke who brought himself to get shot, even though waiting for Buricko to run put of ammo was very logical.

    • and yeah, any person who get's physical abuse deserves pity. What Arvo did has lighter wieght that what Kenny did. And Kenny is a plain asshole.
    jenny

I don't blame Jane for the gunfight, I hate her for letting Sarah die.

Overall, Kenny is very annoying—and that's that.

  • Well, I'm not really sad anymore at the Kenny sacrificing himself for Christa/Ben scene because I know he's alive. What a shame, it was a really good scene but now I feel basically nothing. :(
