The Clem "need" is getting very annoying

Imo, the "season 3 needs Clementine or it will suck" or "doesn't have Clementine? Not buying" thing is starting to get very annoying, almost as annoying as the whole "If Daryl Dies We Riot" and "Daryl is the main character" thing.

The Walking Dead isn't about just one character. It'd be like trying to have Game of Thrones only focus on one location, it limits it's storytelling capabilities immensely.

  • Clementine is relevant because of Lee. All she did was do the work in Season 2 even when she says no.

  • I agree with ya, Shub. I recently talked about how bashing and passing an entire game due to a character not being in it. The mentality of these "No Clem no Buy" people is so ridiculous because they'll whine like children if they don't get everything they want. Telltale needs to cater to many including the people who don't want to play as her or even want her in Season 3 such as myself. I'd actually be disappointed if they kept things the same way after saying "they're taking a new direction"

Imo, the "season 3 needs Clementine or it will suck" or "doesn't have Clementine? Not buying" thing is starting to get very annoying, almost as annoying as the whole "If Daryl Dies We Riot" and "Daryl is the main character" thing.

To be fair I also constantly see people talk about how much they hate the game with Clementine in it, and would hate the fact if Clem had anything to do with Season 3. As someone who wants Clementine in Season 3, that annoys me to no end as well.

All I can say is to just ignore it for now, we've had constant threads and debates over who will/should be Season 3's protagonist but I honestly dropped out of those a long time ago since it's a futile battle. In the end we'll all know who it will be so there isn't any real point in arguing about it anymore, we don't really have a say in who it'll be either.

  • I'm sick of everyone saying it as well. Clementine is a boring protagonist and looking back on it I agree with Sg190th that Clementine was only relevant because of Lee. She was overpowered protagonist and didn't even feel like a character in season 2. She had very little character development and what actually makes me hate her even more is the people that say "If Clementine isn't in it I'm not buying" or "It isn't season 3 without Clementine" because that is just ridiculous. Overall I actually liked walking dead season 2, but the Clementine character was just terrible.

So yeah the walking dead doesn't need Clementine, if anything it needs Clementine gone from the series.

  • I guarantee you.. if they introduce a new character for season 3 everyone will be begging for Clem back... Focus on one character and ride it out till the end.. Swapping protags ruins the story for me.. and the evolution of the character.

  • Haven't played GTA?

  • To be brutally honest, it's kinda pathetic.

  • Got this feeling similar from the comics. It's essentially Rick's story, but you also get a much more in depth view of all the other characters that cross his path. Take that and turn it into the Telltale game and we got Clementine's story. If she don't appear in S3, so be it, but so far it's been her story since day 1 imo.

  • Still they swapped Lee out with Clem. Did this "ruin the story" for you

uh yes... this wasn't directed towards Gta.

Nope, because the story even with Lee as the main revolved around caring and preparing Clem for the world.. pretty easy concept to understand really.

"season 3 needs Clementine or it will suck"

Yup I'm one of those people who says stuff like that. I'm going to try to be civil as I express my opinion on this matter.

From my perspective I get a little frustrated when some people boast about how Clementine should be "ditched" from Season 3...that statement is getting pretty old and annoying too. I've been hearing that statement for almost a year on the forum. Most people from the pro Clem fan-base would be driven mad by that statement. I believe Clem is the glue that keeps the series together and without her the narrative would become "empty" and it will struggle to find a new purpose to sustain itself. Replacing Clem with a "fresh new story" wouldn't be enough to keep the narrative afloat unless if it was a new separate series. Getting rid of Clem while calling it Season 3 would "disrupt" the flow of the narrative more so than the 16 month time skip in season 2. I believe the purpose of the game is to tell Clem's story the same as the purpose of the comics and the TV show is to tell Rick's story. But hey...having a passionate opinion on something is a two way street; it will please one part of a fan base and piss off another part of the fan base just like the Kenny vs Jane argument.

  • It's not that the game 'needs' Clementine but has to do something with her because, since S1 episode 1, it has been all about her. Of course, Lee was the protagonist and we got to know him very well but what was his main goal? Protect Clementine at all costs and eventually that goal took his life. As I said earlier, she's the mascot of the game and even if she won't appear in S3, there will always be references to her. I don't mind playing a protagonist that isn't Clem, but I would love for her to appear somewhere in those episodes and interact with the protagonist (aka the players), whoever that may be.

  • I don't care if Clementine in it or not, it's TTG so...I'm getting the game no matter what.

  • Nah, I don't care much for Clem as how I did in S1. I hated her in S2. I will play S3 no matter what protagonist will be. Even though I love Daryl so much, I can still watch the show but I'll cry when he will die.

  • Hopefully we have a new playable character. Clementine is better as the main non playable character although I'm sick of the amount of respect and how much shit she can get away with just because she's a little girl , that's not the characters fault but the fans who will scold a a person like Ben for his stupidity but won't blink an eye when clementine talks to the stranger behind everyone's back, gets kidnapped which results in the group having to risk their lives to save her because of her own negligence and what happens? Lee gets bitten, lose the boat, mansion gets overrun, Ben dies (determinet) kenny gets lost in the herd, and finally lee dies and it's all indirectly caused by clementine just like Ben but she gets the green light . Pathetic

  • I kinda hate her more than Ben.

  • I like Clementine and will buy the game no matter what, however I don't agree that the games have always been about her. Season 2 pretty much was, season 1 she was just another character for the most part. Sure the end of episode 4 and episode 5 were about saving her life, but I consider Lee to be the real MVP of that game. Someone could say that Kenny was a bigger character as well.

  • The only problem I'd have with Clem not being in Season 3 would be that it wouldn't be, in truth, a Season 3, as in the 3rd season of this story. Yes, Clementine isn't the only person in TWD, I know, but Season 1 and 2 were very much about her. Telltale had a chance to drop her from the story and create an anthology in Season 2, but instead they made a direct sequel. To make a 3rd season without Clementine and not continuing her story (which is what ties 1 and 2 together, and therefore should go into the third installment as well) would be completely ridiculous imo and catering to the vocal minority that hated her so much.

That being said, I will be buying and playing this no matter what, but there will be a significant drop in interest if she isn't in it (I really couldn't care less if she's the protagonist, as long as she has a presence in the story).

  • I agree with what you are saying. The main seasons like 1 and 2 should be about the characters that have been in it since the start because that is the whole point of the game is it not... Fair enough if the Devs want to try no story points and different Protagonists but i would much rather that they kept that to DLC's and their Mini-series

I guarantee you.. if they introduce a new character for season 3 everyone will be begging for Clem back... Focus on one character and ride it out till the end.. Swapping protags ruins the story for me.. and the evolution of the character.

    Because it will. lol.

  • It'd be like trying to have Game of Thrones only focus on one location, it limits it's storytelling capabilities immensely.

And about that...The Walking Dead isn't Game of Thrones. Unlike Game of Thrones The Walking Dead franchise puts a central focus on a main character in each separate story. It's not like The Walking Dead explores what happens in Alaska,China or Europe unless there is a spin-off series about that which would be interesting. It focuses on the region of where the main character is located at. Like I said earlier the purpose of the comic book and TV show is to talk about Rick's life. That was Kirkman's plan all along. It was Telltale's plan even before the development of the game to tell about Clem's story. So lets allow Telltale to "tell" the "tale".

  • I liked Ben . I thought he could've learned and gained more experience, but most of the people on here should've been in Crawford, needs they like to insult the weaker ones, but wouldn't make sense because they like clementine and kids weren't allowed in Crawford .

  • Clem's story is the essence of Telltale's TWD. Considering that everything they've made after Season 1 has been subpar combined with the fact that TWD's universe is very underdeveloped and boring, I doubt I'll have any interest interest in buying a Clem-less Season 3. Hell, I'll even have my doubts before buying a Season 3 with Clem because of how bad they butchered Season 2.

Clem was so lame in Season 2...

I want them to have a new protagonist who meets Clementine, and whoever you saved in episode 5.

Clem should be part of the group, and the story. It's Walking Dead, not Walking Clem.

Season 3 should be the last of Clem. And then we get more new stories without connection to the other

  • I never gave Arvo sympathy, I find it funny that a bunch of dumbasses except Kenny defend Arvo after he and his group tried to kill them. Even Jane, she distrusted Arvo first time but later she did trust him. That's why I stayed with Kenny, he is smarter.

Ikr. I think Lee should have never died. He was a better protagonist and I still can't forgive Clem for trusting a dumbass who "found" her parents.

  • Even if you don't steal, he still causes the gunfight yet people have pity for him? Are they high? Well janes not the brightest, sleeping with Luke when he was suppose to be watching for walkers, kenny might have been a bit out of control given how much he lost, but at least he tried what was best for the group rather then disappear or have sex when you're suppose to be watching for walkers.

Not as annoying as these threads. People have different *opinions than you, open your eyes and realize. I mean what's so wrong about someone not getting S3 because there's no Clem?

  • Personally I'm glad that the next installment of The Walking Dead will be about Michonne. As a protagonist she is more of my liking than Clem. She is familiar face from the comics and I like her badass style. I have never been huge fan of child protagonists and while I don't hate Clem, I liked playing as Lee and 400 Days gang more than I liked playing as Clem.

Clementine is just a plot device, not a great character like Lee.

  • It would suck. It would be like having the amc walking dead without Rick. Clem is just the image you get when you think of Telltale's Walking Dead. It would be a poor business decision not to have her in season 3,but I think people will still buy just because of the story.

Maybe having a season off from Clem would get the Clem haters to appreciate her character if the season without her sucks.

That is very true. Telltale has transcended Clem from being a character to an icon. And no one can kill an icon. That's why I am confident that Telltale will continue to focus the story on Clem instead of catering to a vocal minority that does not reflect the view of most TTG fans

But the Wolf Among Us and Tales From The Borderlands are freaking awesome, with Tales being one of my favorite games. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean the majority considers them subpar or terrible.
