Why do people hate twd game season 2

  • I would say that there was a few things wrong with season 2. There were good things with the series but it pales to series 1:

    • your choices don't seem to matter in series 2. characters didn't get much in depth writing to develop.

    • they give all the gameplay elements to Clementine and Kenny some dialog the other characters didn't that and were killed off. you wasn't get time get attach to them. so when they die there wasn't any emotional punch.

    • the most of the deaths you didn't see happen, they were off screen they disappear and show up again as zombies, the other deaths just don't make any sense logically and the way they die was more of forced bad writing then story plot

  • Basically this. If season 1 was like season 2 then we could be a dick to Kenny from episode 1 and he'd still come with us at the end to find Clementine. This is basically how our choices don't matter in season 2. No matter how much we're a dick to someone, they'll still love a little girl.

  • Exactly!

  • Not for me.

    Because it was bad.

  • I don't think people hate season 2 but they were probably expecting a lot more form it.

  • Well, The only possible answer I can give is that People can't explain it. No one can Explain why the Hate or Love things, It's just a feeling they have about Said thing. And For Season 2, Some people hate Certain things about the game, But they Can't explain why they hate those things, It's just something they feel.

  • Well some of us can explain it... Like there's a whole thread explaining it

  • You know what I mean though. While we can try to explain it by listing what's wrong with it, We can't explain WHY we don't like those things, It's just something we hate.

  • True, very true

  • Personally I don't hate season 2, it was just kinda linear in terms of a choice based story.

  • I dislike it for the same reasons most people too - writing felt really lazy, no character development for most of the main characters, and choices felt really linear compared to Season 1. Most people, however, took those reasons to downright hatred of Season 2, whereas I was just a bit disappointed

  • I liked it. I do admit that it had some problems like Nicks death and a few scenes that could have been better but overall it was good for me at least.

  • S2 is fine, not too bad but not too good.

The thing I hate is Sarah dies when we was given a choice earlier and Nick's off screen death.

  • Because for me at least, in Season 2:

    • Decisions matter less - Saving Sarah still results in the same fate, teaching her how to use a gun doesn't come into play, Kenny gets mad regardless, Rebecca starts being nice to you regardless etc.

    • Forced Relationships and Bonding - The game forces your Clementine to like Kenny until the bitter end, you are forced to bond with and get to know Jane etc.

    • Characters instantly like or hate you for no real reason, despite how you acted in front of them previously - If you threaten Rebecca she still changes heart and is nice to you, if you threaten Alvin, he's still nice to you later on etc.

    • Episodes were shorter - 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes now etc.

    • Less character development - We barely get to know more about certain characters like Sarita, Carlos, or really anyone's past etc.

    • You can view objects and other stuff but Clementine doesn't really say anything about them - You can look at allot of different stuff and Clementine won't comment on many of them which makes viewing things most of the time a bit awkward, at least for me etc.

  • My favorite (uneccesary) line from the first season was when Lee was talking about filling up the tea cup with some bourbon

I was like lmao you just got away from some zombies and that's what ur thinking about? I wish Clementine did that more

  • I enjoyed season two, but a big thing that bothered me was the fact that there was no time for exploration. I HATED that in season one (maybe because I watched a let's play before I could buy it), but I missed it terribly in the second installment. Exploring your location is where you got to interact with your group, got to know them personally. It was where you bonded with them and eventually would come to care (or not) when something good or bad happened to them. In season two, it felt like we were always running around somewhere, and yeah we were doing that in season one as well but at least there was down time in just about every place we went. I felt very little with what happened to those in S2 simply because I wasn't given enough time to care. And because of that I didn't know or connect with them as well as I did with someone like Ben, Duck, or, hell, even Maybelle the cow.

That was my biggest issue, and the fact that my influence meant very little in S2. But that's another issue I won't get into. :B

  • It's just funny because if we keep comparing the predeccesor to its sequel, we will never be satisfied. I just hope for the best at this point. I feel like we've all came up with situations that work for us and that will also ruin the game. I, myself have stated multiple plot lines that would sound good to me, but that takes always from how good the game will be.

Let's just start hoping for the best.

  • I can see that, the thing is that I really loved the characters from season two, so I would've liked to have had more opportunities to be with them, but I understand your point. :D So yes, let's hope for the best. With season three being a ways off it will hopefully be the best it can and have the proper time dedicated to it.

A big reason I STRONGLY disliked S2 because our previous choices didn't matter, I hate that because it's slack and lazy, I hate slackness and lazyness because I spent my hard earned 20 bucks on slackness and lazyness, and I hate spending money on slackness and lazyness because I worked hard for that money.

  • What I mean by that, Is yes, You hate those things, But there is no reason to hate those things other than The fact that it gets on your nerves which is A feeling you have. We can't explain why we don't Like things like you described, We just don't.

  • Season 2 in gameplay terms, is not necessarily a bad game. Like strawburry3 said, they have streamlined it down quite significantly, ridding the game of any long periods of down time, which I agree helps you care more about the characters. The slight behavior that may seem unimportant actually goes a long way to make you care about a character more. That decision to tighten up the pacing obviously has positive effects from the developers standpoint, but I think it hurts the game more than it helps it.

The story itself is bad compared to the first one, as a game it is entertaining to play but has absolutely no noteworthy plot points, characters or relationships that are intriguing and most are actually just frustrating. I feel like Telltale is just responding to their fame by spreading their team thin on multiple projects and the average writing that was present throughout the first season is more obvious in all these spin off games. The first season did not actually have particularly good writing or characters apart from Lee and Clementine, the others were just serviceable in my opinion, but it worked well for what it was. The reality is the game will never live up to what season 1 was. It's not to say the game is awful, you can still enjoy playing it but as a story it doesn't and I predict will never come close again to what season one was. Frankly it feels like telltale have made a complete mess of the plot, and with all the multiple endings in season 2 it will be a miracle to reconcile the plot in an interesting, meaningful way. I think we can take the considerable (2-3 year) pause between the development of season 2 and season 3 as a sign that Telltale are unsure what the hell they are going to do next with it.

  • The main problem with S2 was writing because of the development team. They could not have an organized schedule because they were too much of an indie company to organize themselves and have multiple teams for each game. S1's writers left telltale games which is quite a shame. Telltale really needs to keep good writer's on the team. Mine craft story mode and Twd Michelle are games that i feel like could have been batman/got s2/ Twd s3. Those two games were sadly, in my opinion, not games and in reality, sorry about this, money uses.

  • I'd say it might have been less hate and more disappointment.

  • I like season 2, my biggest problems with it is the episodes length, dialogue options representing the same sentiment or the same dialogue no matter what, much more than in season 1. Why do we have to choose a dialogue if the responses are the same? The other problem is that I can't choose who I want to sympathize with just like in season 1, biggest offenders are Rebecca and Carlos who become your friends no matter your choices.

  • I don't hate season 2, I just thought it was very disappointing and underwhelming because of the writing.

  • Coming from a BIG FAN of season 1, season 2 was very disappointing. The characters are their just to die near the end, why not save them for season 3? Carver died way too early and the whole Kenny vs Luke thing is soooo boring it's literally Kenny vs Lilly all over again! also recycled Molly really? the episodes slides made so hopeful for a great finale but of course episode 4 turned out to be the worst of both seasons, and episode 5 was ugly lol.

I loved them both. Playing as Clem was great. The only beef I got with season 2 is the fact that everyone you meet dies and most of the characters were poorly developed. Kenny and Clem were the only well written characters. Even Jane was just meaner version of molly. Rebecca Bonnie and Luke were all over the place. Nick had a nice build up and they killed him in the shittiest ways. We didn't even know much at all about carver and he was only around for one episode basically. Omid had the worst death of all time. He was the comic relief and they killed him off within 5 minutes of the game.

  • I loved that moment too! xD

Also, unlike Season 1, you don't have many dialogue choices on characters when you're roaming around, just one conversation. I mean HUB dialogues if you know what I mean.

  • Something that has been mentioned a few times is that your choices don't feel like they matter although another gripe I have that I don't know if people haven't mentioned is that your dialogue choices don't affect how the characters react to you.

If you are rude to Kenny or nice to Kenny he'll still react the same.
Same goes for Luke, Rebecca, etc.. Just beacuse that's how the story pans out.

I suppose it's forgivable as Clem is a child and people are always going to react a certain way to a child regardless of their attitude but it still annoyed me. With a game that was devoid of any downtime sections and exploration and mostly dialogue, the dialogue you chose didn't change a thing.

  • lol XD

  • I feel season 1 had a better story line... season 2 they were just killing people off for drama and i didn't like that...

  • At least he hasn't tried the Marvel game, though, so that can remain a surprise for everyone!

  • Season Two was okay. With the entire cabin crew dying and Clem left standing, it reminds me of what happened with Bob from TWD TV show before joining Rick's group. He was the only survivor of the previous groups he joined. It makes Clem's story dreary and could be emphasized in future storylines. Like she's bad luck in the eyes of others.

  • If only they would return to Telltale. :(

  • Season 2 honestly wasn't bad, it just didn't have as good of a story line as season 1 and the episode length was shorter, or at least it felt like it was, but other than that i still enjoyed season 2 and am looking forward to season 3
