And so it begins! The moment we've been waiting for... kids realizing this is not the original Minecraft. <3

Post any funny reviews here in the comments.

  • sigh This is disappointing. I was really hoping that this wouldn't happen.

  • FPS... they really said FPS... this is just sad...

  • Man kids these days don't know how to research anything.

They are clearly aiming at the Minecraft demographic and that's the problem right there; Minecraft and Minecraft Story Mode are two entirely different experiences, one is about creating your experience and the world around you, the other is a linear story driven experience, about the opposite of the real Minecraft, yeah they both have Minecraft assets, but I really wished Telltale would have gone with another IP, but too late for that now.

  • Hmm, I actually thoroughly enjoyed this one

  • so pathetic..tsk tsk

  • most reviews are pretty retarded, and even most positive reviews are just one line long

Oh I was waiting for the reviews, let's go!

  • The amount of topics I see slagging the Minecraft fans is depressing. I just took a look at the Steam reviews for Minecraft, and they're positive by a ratio of ~3:1. You guys are blowing the negative reactions way out of proportion.

  • But its not a FPS!

This is not a thread slagging Minecraft fans, really. We're not talking about the negative reaction, people have the right to dislike it. We're talking about kids who bought the game without knowing what it is about. Some kids even thought it was going to be an FPS, when Telltale was clearly advertising a point-n-click/adventure game, and not an FPS/open world game.

  • I find it hilarious when people buy stuff without doing any research.

  • Fun fact: most of the negative reviewers didn't played more than one hour (meaning they didn't even finished the episode).

    No coments...

  • Sigh... I know six year olds will be six year olds but this is really disappointing. I'm considering writing a positive review even though I haven't played it, just to balance the reviews out a little.

Justify it however you want. Its mean-spirited all the same.

Frankly, Telltale didn't do a very good job advertising it as a point-and-click. "Story Mode" implies that its a Minecraft game mode, and on the Steam page there's no mention of it being third person or a point-and-click. So while they should have done their research, I can totally understand someone thinking its first person like Minecraft.

THEY'RE 4:1 POSITIVE RIGHT NOW. HOW WOULD WRITING A POSITIVE REVIEW BALANCE IT?

  • Well, it is now, but when I took those screenshots the reviews were pretty much neutral.

  • Fair enough. Not sure what the other guy's excuse is.

  • Whoa man, chill. I was under the impression all the bad "not FPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" reviews had plagued the Steam page. I stand corrected.

  • I'm glad this game isn't getting as much hate compared to when it was first announced, and reviews are positive, but, on steam, most of the negative reviewers complain of how there is "no gameplay whatsoever" or that "this game is less than 2 hours, unfinished, the rest you might have to buy"

Doesn't look like they have played or heard of a telltale game before. They should really do some research about pricing before they jump to conclusions. It saddens me. :(

  • Wow... They REALLY like to judge a game based on its cover.

Fun fact: most of the negative reviewers didn't played more than one hour (meaning they didn't even finished the episode). No coments...

  • I'm glad that the game at least got positives on Steam and majority of the people like the game. Because it really doesn't deserve the hate and you'd think people would do some research before buying.

  • I was expecting this.

  • I'm hoping Telltale predicted this. People will act like this for whatever dumb reason and it should be expected.

Getting anything out of this, at least they seem to enjoy making the game.

  • I wrote a review on the game on steam. A positive one. This game doesn't deserve the hate.

Reviews are now 'Very Positive' on Steam.

    Edit - Mostly Positive now...

  • Well, at least we know that a lot of people love the game. :)

    Or rather 80 %

  • Hello! Yes... I see now that new players can be despised for not doing any research into TellTale... :I Sorry! Well, I think the story is pretty damn good! But what's the deal with having to wait for more episodes to be released? Details please! Thanks :D

Because Telltale makes their episodes 'live' and like to take user feedback to implement in future episodes.

  • Thanks! One more question, what is the usual wait time for another episode??? I'm really intrigued

TellTale games are realesed in the format of episodes, Minecraft Story Mode has 5 in total.

TellTale usually tries to launch every episode every 2 months, but Job (a TellTale staff) said on an interview that they're trying to realese episodes faster.

If you bought the season pass you wont need to buy any other episodes you already own them all and you will be able to play once they're launched for your platform.

This way TellTale can add more impact to cliffhangers, let the fans speculate about the game and increase hype.

  • I love how some people think that they paid 25 dollars for just one episode :D

  • edited October 2015

    Amusing, isn't it?

What is also amusing that such misconception would be greatly reduced if people started to properly read store pages before purchasing (impulse buying at its finest.)

See, that's the entire problem with MC: Story Mode, it's target demographic isn't attracted to this game style. These reviews are the exact reason Minecraft will be Telltale's least successful game to date.
  • That's not a problem with the game, that's a problem with the demographic being stupid as bricks.

  • Haven't played yet, but I guess this is what was expected. I'd be surprised if Telltale weren't prepared for some ignorance. papai46 is right though. The target demographic of this kind of thing might hurt them, though it'll still make money.
