Well, Kenny did place Clementine in danger multiple times just for a vague chance of placing AJ in a camp he didn't for sure know existed. Let alone where it was to begin with.
It's safe to assume he cared a whole lot more for AJ's wellbeing than Clementine's or anyone else's.

It's true that AJ is an awful character and was merely put in the game to further Kenny's relevance on the plot and put Clementine on the sidelines to his and Jane's feud. Something that literally stilted any enjoyment I could've potential had for the finale.
With that being said. The act of protecting an infant, no matter how ridiculous his existence may be in the first place, was not what made me even further detest Kenny's awful character. It was that I was meant to vehemently defend him in a game that is supposedly so gung-ho about ambiguity. AJ is a plot buffer, nothing more. He exists just so that the final confrontation between Kenny and Jane could take place.
It's no more AJ's fault that Clem took a back seat to stupidity than it is Arvo or Jane's.
