Dead characters who had great potential

  • Ironically I found Luke to be the one who's lazily designed of the two, given how he can easily be written out of the story and not much would have needed to be changed due to his absence.

Luke had made little to no impact on the story and had failed to justify his role in the story for all of five episodes. Even though other characters of Season 2 barely had much lasting impact themselves they at least had a role to play out, but Luke stood out more as a disappointment given how his role was supposed to be the deuteragonist of the story, and yet his role quickly stripped from him in the second half of Season 2 by Jane, making him even more irrelevant to the story.

The only worthwhile thing Luke did, or tried to do at least, was to break into Carver's community and try to break his friends back out from behind the scenes, but given how the writers had quickly glossed over his accomplishment and seeing how his friends barely acknowledges his huge loyalty and desire to save them, it makes me wonder why the writers had bothered to bring him back at all.

I tried to like Luke and tried to give him a chance to make up for his lack of depth and role in the story, but as episodes passed by it became clear to me that the writers just didn't know what to do with him. In the end, I consider Luke to be one of the most boring and pointless characters of the Telltale's Walking Dead series.

Why do so many people here have such similar opinions on Luke? I didn't find him offensively stereotyped and lazily designed like Carver

Amid the Ruins from the herd sequence, regrouping with the others, to leaving to go find Sarah and Nick and back again, if you swapped Jane and Luke's roles around in those parts, that time with him spilling the beans on some personal stuff would've made a huge difference to his character. He was already established from the very first episode of that season, they should've just stuck with him as a deuteragonist with Kenny and Jane than make him redundant. I can't figure out the reasoning behind a decision like that.

It's like you said, he had no impact. Him and the cabin group could've been written out and it wouldn't of made a difference in the end. So many characters ended up like that I can't help being sad and frustrated about it. Luke became a pretty face, that's it.

  • It would've been really interesting to meet a Kenny like you described him, considering that two years have passed. That much time can change anyone, let alone someone surviving the zombie apocalypse.

  • Why not? lol

    raising AJ as their son?

  • I liked Luke because he was probably the only character that was straight up a good person.

  • Their son? I mean, like, they're young and shit. They wouldn't adopt him and claim him as his son,but probably take care of him like a brother.

  • I´m pretty relaxed, and I wasn´t defining fan fiction but rather stating that for me that idea feels like fan fiction rather than actual writting. There was no bitterness in my message if you interpreted like that, you post an idea and i gave my opinion about it, no need to put yourself in defensive mode. C´mon, have a friendly huge.

whispering: can you feel me while we huge? this is pretty homoerotic, do you feel the same?

It was just wishful thinking, relax. And let's not get into definitions, I'm well aware of what fanfiction is, thanks.

  • Lee, Carley, BrOmid, Luke. Pete. Sam.

Also Bonnie but she ran off in my game so technically could still be alive... Also Sarah. I was kinda hoping after the death of Carlos, Sarah would look to Clem like a big sister (I know Clems the older one but not mentally!) hoping Clem might be able to teach her some survival skills like Lee did with a young Clem and then perhaps saving someone else by shooting a zombie (nervously) before getting attacked herself. At least it would be some sort of redemption and people wouldn't think she was completely useless.

  • Well you never know, just saying one of many possibilities, treating him like their little brothers is also just a possibility.

  • Pete. He had leadership aura from the moment he was introduced. Would've been interesting to see him thrown into the mix with Luke, Kenny, and Jane.

  • I don't think Clem or Sarah would claim that AJ is their son. Just not buying it.

  • Well I'm just a naturally defensive person, sorry about that. We can hug it out, but no homoeroticism; I'm a female.

  • Sarah, poor Sarah especially if you choose to teach her how to protect herself. Nick after the potential bonding of the first two episodes, he just died off-screen. Chuck, I liked his calm personality and really wanted to keep him in episode 4. Omid, man that was one of the most pointless death of the two seasons combined along with Luke.

  • Damn, I was feeling homo for the week, no hugs till next week when I´m straight again then.

  • I mean, they kill off pretty much everyone in the games. It keeps the edge that the comics have and the show lost. Kirkman said it himself, "Been three issues? Somebody got to die."

And killing characters you don't want to see die is the heart of TWD experience.

  • I thought killing off Omid was a great idea. In the first five minutes, they were like, Hey, did you forget how heart-wrenching this game is? Well, let's kill off this enormously popular character to remind you.

Besides its a running TWD theme in all three mediums that anyone who has a positive outlook on life dies horribly.

  • I wanted to see a 16 months DLC. Showing us what exactly happened in that timeskip. Clementine never talks about how Christa treated her, or if they were ever in a group. It would've also been interesting to see what happened to Christa's baby (even though she probably miscarried). It would've been cool. It would've also given us some more background on Christa.

  • Pete.
Why Telltale decided to reincarnate Ben through Nick but dispose of a more promising character like Pete (adult mentor for Clem) I will never understand.

I think we can all agree killing Lee was a huge mistake. They should have kept him alive and made him PC for S2 and S3. They should have saved that ending of No time left for the series finale. Then it would have had a bigger impact.

  • I've never thought about it that way.

It would of been a much perfect way for him to go, so yeah, I agree.

  • Luke didn't have background or a remarkable personality, he was too normal. A good guy and thats it. However, I wanted him to live longer or to be more important to the story. Maybe they could have change his role with Nick, who had an actual Character arc and backstory and was way more interesting

  • I feel like they just kiled Luke so that the final choice could be the Kenny/Jane one. Yeah, he was a bit too normal, but a nice guy and i wanted him to live longer. His death was really ridiculous, i hated it. Its like this: he wouldnt leave with Mike and Arvo because he cared about Clem and didnt want to abandon her, and with him around, the final fight probably wouldnt have happened as he was the group guy, who would always try to keep everyone together. So they just killed him in the first way they found so that the story could go on. Shame, wasted potential
