Tower of Joy
Was it what you imagined it as?
Also, something that people might not notice at all but at around 0:53-0:56 the sun is shown and you can see it shining down on Arthur Dayne, the sword of the morning. A real cool touch I thought.

I thought there were three kingsguard at the tower, but other than that yeah that's about what I thought happened.
This scene was fucking epic! Probably one of my favorites in the show!
And yeah, that's pretty much what I thought happened
Arthur having two swords threw me off from what I've heard about him, but I still loved it. Howland killed Dayne technically
"What's in the tower?"-Bran stark
the fight was epic however it leaves you on a cliffhanger they don't show the inside so we saw no birth of jon snow. so basically what is the point - again we learn nothing.
Two swords fight is meh. Ice is a two handed sword, not a bastard sword (except if it's not Ice, but it looks like it)
Other than that, it's cool.
I don't mind Arthur fighting with two swords and frankly I think when you are outnumbered, you need all the advantage you can get. But I think it would have been cool when it was just him and Ned, he could have dropped one of his sword, just so he can give Ned a fairer and more honorable fighting chance.
But then again, when you are fighting for your life, why would you think about honor?
Otherwise, I love the fight. definitely impressive.
So Ned Stark didnt beat Dayne in fair 1vs1. Howland backstabbed him. What a shitty way to die for this honorable warrior.
It was made quite obvious we will see that later this season. Also, it has been established earlier that Bran can't stay too long on those visions.
I don't think it was Ice, it would have been bigger if it was Ice.
That's Game of Thrones (and real life) for ya. And to me it only highlights how good he was. By the time the other KG fell (I assume he was Gerold Hightower) it was Dayne vs 4 Northmen, and still the only way they could take him down was by dishonorable stabbing in the back.
Having two swords doesn't give you advantages in true fight.
I think he's supposed to have it at this moment.
I'm not sure; look at the guard, it looks like it though.
The design is probably pretty similar, but I think that was also the case in season 1 when he fought against Jaime. And I don't remember how it was in the books but greatsword really wouldn't be the best choice in this kind of fight.
True, but Ser Arthur Dayne is supposed to be legendary fighter with unbelievable skills. I think duel wielding is a pretty good visual way to showcase that.
I don't have any knowledge about true sword fight, so I don't know. But it does look cool.
Meh? I thought it looked pretty cool. Almost balletic.
what? it wasnt Ice, they even metion on the book and show that sword is to big for combat.
but why doesn't he just show him? i get it, you stay to long you could get trapped in there, maybe what happened to Hodor??, but the raven looked kinda scared that bran could altered the past? find out? its very interesting.
Where?
Oh indeed, so there isn't an error in continuity at least. Greatswords are in 95% of the case not used on horseback; maybe that's why he didn't wear it at the tower of joy since he was riding just before. And he might have felt more comfortable while wearing a random sword walking in the streets of KL. But in both case that would mean leaving a (very very very) precious heirloom somewhere, which isn't that safe.
Actually greatsword can be as useful as a sword + shield; Arthur Dayne used one aswell in books :P
i believe it was mentioned 2 or 3 times in the show, i believe one of them was Tywin mentioning how big it was. in the books, well book since ive only the the first.
im not gonna say where exactly since idk, and im not gonna go look for them that is just not me, im too lazy for that lol. sorry, but im pretty sure they have mentioned that.
Well, when it comes to the show at least it could just be that he left Ice to Winterfell.
And yeah, Dawn. Tbh I think Dayne's other sword might have been the show's version of Dawn - there was a yellow sun or star on the crossguard of that sword. Making a glowing sword might have been a bit weird/too much in the show since it would have come out of nowhere for the general audience (they already have to put a bit too much expository dialogue to those flashbacks), and I guess a greatsword wouldn't the best option for choreography either - I'm certainly not an expert on that though, maybe they could have worked it out.
It is mentionned he took it at least to go to Pyke. So he fought with it. Also there would be no point to have a greatsword if not to use it.
Yeah I noticed it too!
It would have not the same result I think. But we had hound vs gregor in season 1 (pre Clegane Bowl) and it was a two handed sword fight.
The 2 vs 6 might make some problem for the choregraphy but they could have put one more king's guard as in novels to solve the problem.
I think they wanted to make it look badass with the dual sword and all. Well, still a cool fight anyway.
youre right, he did. i went and did a quick lil' search and that is mentioned. but they've also said that that sword was not used all the time in battle, i was carried most of the time but squires ans mostly used for executions. so i guess here he left it behind and just used another sword. i mean that big of a sword would be difficult to wield in battle and its weight would be disadvantage, yes Valyrian steel is lighter, but still too big to use in battle and againt the best fighter in history.
Greatswords were often used in battle; a good cavalry counterpart.
If you think about it: just before entering the tower of joy, Eddard heard "father".
It might have guided him.
I can't believe I'm the only one who thought young Ned sounded like Gared Tuttle
I agree. He should have just had Dawn. From what GRRM says he's on Barristan's level of skill
I thought about that too Pretty great if that was the idea.
Was the accent same? I don't really know anything about English accents
I think it was intended. It's like Reek hearing "Theon" near the weirwood trees before going to Mance in order to rescue Jeyne Poole in books. Or the raven of lord Mormont who is probably driven by Bloodraven which warns Jon and co, even if they never get the meaning of what the crow says.
Yeah I'm calling it Bran has a vision of his father's death and the raven has to convince him to let it happen
He really did!!! I was thinking that the whole time!!!
There were three, but as Deadpool said in his movie at the X-Men house, ''Only two of you living in a mansion this big? It's almost like Fox couldn't afford to have anymore X-Men.''
So we're going with studio didn't have money for a third Kingsguard.
Can't wait for more of these Bran past visions. Epic duel wield sword fight. have we seen this in GoT? May have but I've forgot.
Hahaha I was assuming the third was inside the tower, but your theory is my kind of rediculous. I like it.
Corn? Pretty sure they get the meaning. It wants corn.
I heard somewhere that it was a bastard sword that Ned used here, not Ice. Also heard that the sword he uses here is the exact same one he has on him Kings Landing when he fights Jaime. Nice continuity!
