The traitor reveal...
So quick one here. I chose Royland's as sentinel. After choosing him as sentinel I decided to go with Duncan's plans and never once go with Royland's plan. Now then, my issue is That when Duncan reveals himself and states his motivations for doing so all his answers are false except that I chose Royland. He mentions things that I would have done if I went with Royland's plan as if I DID go through with them. I'm curious if this was an oversight, a glitch or an actual design decision that the dialogue and that one sentinel choice was tied to close or maybe the just didn't have the time to do additional voice overs?

There was a huge backlash about this back when the episode was first released. And no, it's not a glitch, the one you didn't choose as sentinel is always the traitor - sadly. I would say the traitor twist is the absolute lowpoint of this game.
No, they did the stupid thing on purpose. And that's when and why i stopped playing this game.
It works the same if you do the opposite. Doesn't make a difference what actions you take or not. The whole thing comes down to that one decision you made as Ethan in the beginning. So effing stupid.
The traitor is always who wasn't chosen as sentinel, which is beyond stupid and absolutely terrible storytelling
Here's the thing, for me the Duncan betrayal worked as I had gone against pretty much every suggestion he had. So when he betrayed me I was like 'Oh cool, my decisions mattered. I bet it's Royland if you chose Duncan and sided against Royland or Maester Ortengryn if you selected one as Sentinel and still sided with the other one. Woah this variation is great!'
But, for some reason, the person who you didn't select is so butthurt that they betray Rodrik (even though it's not even his fault, Ethan chose the Sentinel) EVEN if you, for example, chose Royland as Sentinel but kissed Ludd's ring, submitted to Gryff and went alone to Highpoint, Duncan betrays you anyway because.... plot.
I do think the reveal was rather poor for most players (especially Royland as traitor, as that is a complete character assassination) as they probably mixed up their choices a little more then me (I just chose 'Defiance, Defiance, Defiance).
Sometimes I wonder if Telltale originally planned for Maester Ortengryn to be the traitor but since everyone guessed him (maybe Lady Forrester too) they hastily forced Duncan/Royland into his place. Why do I believe this? Simple. Ortengryn's role in Episode 6. He does absolutely nothing of importance and get's an offscreen death. Wow I just can't even...
While the traitor reveal was flawed and a lot of people didn't like it, I personally like it just because of the emotions and good voice acting between Russ (Rodrik) and Robin (Duncan).
Oh yeah I agree. I have problems with the reveal but the scene itself is downright heartbreaking. The VA's outdid themselves.
