Gared the traitor and season two?
So if Duncan was the traitor and you had Rodrik kill him. Do you think that will have a big impact on Gared is season two when he gets back to Ironwrath? I mean Gared has been portrayed as the ultimate loyal subject to the Forrester's even forsaking his vows the Watch for them. But if you killed Duncan he is coming back to no family and the person who he trusted and sent him on his mission dead.

I think he would be upset, but as you said, he's a loyal subject. I think that once the reasoning is explained to him, he would understand and even be surprised that Duncan was a traitor at all. Also, lets not forget that Gared doesn't head back to Ironrath in all playthroughs.
Like you mentioned, he is very loyal. Besides, I think he would understand if it was explained that his uncle was secretly working for the people who murdered his family.
i think when he hears why he killed him if you chose to do so he would understand he may not like it but Gared is loyal to house forrester
Luckily I spared Duncan, and he's at the end with Asher and Talia.
I think it'll be something like this (at least in my playthrough),
Gared- Rodrik you survived! Sees Royland and Talia Where's my uncle?
Rodrik- I know this might be hard for you to hear but Duncan.... betrayed us for the Whitehills.
Gared- No... it can't be... my uncle was a loyal man.
Rodrik- I thought so too. But he thought I was destroying House Forrester. He made his choice Gared.
Gared- I can't believe this! But... why? He sent me to the Wall, pointed me in the direction of the North Grove. Why do all that if he meant to destroy House Forrester?
Rodrik- He did what he thought was right. He was trying to help us in his own way, but that way destroyed House Forrester. And now a Whitehill rules the keep. But Gared, you should know, despite his betrayal, he never gave up hope on you. He never told the Whitehills about the North Grove. He probably considered you House Forrester's last hope.
Gared- But, you still haven't told me what happened to him.
Rodrik- sighs He was a traitor Gared. An oathbreaker. In the North there's only one price for that. I made sure he would never betray my trust, House Forrester's trust, again.
Gared- looks away, closes eyes
Rodrik- I'm... I'm sorry Gared. I wanted to spare him believe me, but I couldn't let him live.
Royland- He did what he thought was right, but what he thought was right, was the end of House Forrester.
Gared- I understand why you did it my lord, but it's a little hard to take in. He was my only family left, he was like a second father to me.
Rodrik- I know how much he meant to you Gared. But he isn't your only family. You're practically a Forrester yourself. YOU are my family, and I need you now more than ever.
Yeah, I'm really glad I spared him.
Royland's family was killed and now you got Royland killed. I hope you know that Royland was the last of his kind. Duncan on the other hand isn't, that's why there's Gared. So in my opinion Duncan should die.
It's gonna be tough for me either way, so...
Jesus man you're right. Just ruined Roylands bloodline.
bah who gives a toss?
Duncan died on mine, but the traitor survived.
But, for those who had Duncan be the traitor, I'd expect Gared would be upset more at his uncle than House Forrester. Gared's lost a lot in order to try and protect those he cares about, and Duncan put them in danger. So, yeah, I think Gared would understand, being more pissed at his uncle than anyone else. (Of course, hopefully we'll get to choose how he feels about it!)
