  • I had a dream Mira was mentioned in the TV show. Then I woke up... :(

  • You know I forget that he barely raised his daughters. I just assumed because he sounded so nice, that he was probably a good father.

Alright I'll replace him with an unpopular Tywin. Ned is probably number one, then Sam. And Tywin somewhere far below.

Oberyn (in the show especially, in the books to some degree) didn't really do a great job at raising his daughters. And if we're counting dead characters I'd add Ned to the list of best fathers.

  • Fuckin hell man lmao

  • Can Daenerys go ONE episode without making a speech? It feels like the writers are trying so hard to make her a badass that they forget to make her a person.

    Blackfish is bae <3

Jokes aside, it feels good to see the Tullys again! I wonder where Edmure's story will go.

  • lol

Ok I will now rate this episode on the Conan o'brien scale. If a tyrion is great score and a high sparrow means an awful score then I would give this episode a Bran. You figure it out.

  • all i know is that Cercei is going to kill Kevan. i mean there has been a lot of kin slaying, so why the fuck not? so that will make Jaime leader of the Lannisters because he will rally them. or maybe Cercei crazy ass will rally them? hmm who knows my bet is jaime.

In the books, the scenes at Riverrun lead to Jaime giving one of the most awesome speeches in the series. I hope they keep it for the show.

  • Daenerys is using a spell called "Dragon Speech". It gives her soldiers a boost in morale and loyalty

  • It's filler, and not the good creamy center kind

I think people often confuse build up to filler, but I'd say there is a fundamental difference. Without build up there can't be a story, but filler is just something inconsequential to the story, and I can't really say there was much of that in this episode - more or less everything was set up for the future episodes.

  • I love Sam and Gilly and Baby Sam and I enjoyed meeting his family even if I despise Randyll. I know people dont think that stuff is interesting because its more character and not action but its going to prove important.

  • Huh. I thought more people would have found the Benjen rescue/reveal exciting. It was no thousand wights descending on a cave but it was pretty nice to see Benjen Coldhands back.

I am psyched to see Blackfysh back in the mix.

  • Pros

    • Family Feud, House Tarly style!
    • Sam stealing his families sword was boss
    • Bejen Stark is back!
    • Walder Frey is back!
    • Dany's spewch at the end
    • We finally get to see Drogon!

    Cons
    No Greyjoys :(

    • Dany's sudden mood change from the last episode was weird
    • No Jon/Sanasa/Brienne/Davos/Tormund :(
    • Tyrells'/Jamie vs. Hogh sparrow was very disappointing
    • Tommen is a wimp
*moment with Jamie and Cersi was gross and weird

Overall decent episode. It was good but the only i can describe this episode with is just disappointing

  • Several things to mention:

First I'm surprised: in this thread a lot of people didn't really like this episode (it mentionned several times as the weakest in the season); yet I saw that it was the favorite for "hardcore" books readers who still watch it. I wonder if show watchers want mainly fast action scenes and book readers like more the build-up.

Secondly: One scene which was really good imo was the one with the Mad King with that "Burn them all" line. My question is: we see an inside wildfire explosion.. Yet it never happened. Do Bran see the future or what could have been?

Thirdly, for those who also read the books, apparently GRRM released another chapter by reading it at a convention.

It's about valyrian armor and drinking nightshade.. Drinking it led to a dream of someone sitting on the Iron Throne. ;)

  • Yeah, the slower episodes like this often get this kind of reception. I personally liked it, I just was left feeling like, "What? That's it?" when the credits started rolling. That's probably mostly because most of the episodes this season have ended with a bang. Well, this one kinda had that kind of ending too, it just didn't work that well. Overall though, this was an episode with many great moments.

I do think the wildfire explosion was foreshadowing to King's Landing burning.

I heard about the chapter being Damphair pov - my least favorite pov character :'D Otherwise though, it sounds like a very interesting chapter. I hope it pops up to internet at some point.

  • People want "wow" moments. This episode didnt really have any "Hodor" like scenes, which I think some fans expect every episode. It was very much about setting things up for the next phase of the story, and as a book reader, I was quite excited to see all the nods to the book and where the story might be going. I dont think it was weak at all, just like you said, more build up.

Can I ask what you like about him? He looked like he had a twelve year old girl on his knee. :p

Lords can pass over their own issue in the line of succession if they need to. I believe Jaehaerys I did it when his secondborn son produced no children but a single daughter, leading him to chose the thirdborn son as his heir instead. Tywin always made it clear he wanted Jaime to inherit the Rock when he died, but its unclear in the show if Jaime has just been stripped of his position as Lord-Command or if he's been evicted from the Kingsguard entirely. Guess they might talk about it more in the next ep.

    It already popped here: https://angrygotfan.com/2016/05/29/the-winds-of-winter-the-damphair-part-1/

As crazy as it sounds, the guy wrote it as Martin read it. I checked quickly other people talking about it and it looks the same.

i really liked it. yes i hoped for revolt on KL 2.0, but what the HS did was brilliant (though i expected that to happen). Walder fookin Frey is back, how Jaime was "dismissed" from the King's Guard was cool, the Tarlly's scene was pretty good, but maybe a lil too long, the Arya stuff wa pretty cool too (though idk if i like how much time the play takes over), Benjen Fucking Strak is back!, Clegane Bowl hype keeps intensifying. so i liked it but it focused too much time on minor characters. the last scene was neat but did we need it? like i said a 7, scratching mid 8's, out 10.

oh and "BURN THEM ALLLLL!!" shit was epic.

  • cercei killing tommen would be fucking epic.

I actually think Cersei will kill Margaery and Tommen will commit suicide.

  • I dont know, its been awhile since I read the book. I just remember the part where Blackfysh totally defied Jaime and embarrassed him, but enlighten me.

  • Jaime and Blackfish talk, Blackfish's like "I aint 1v1ing you m8 you have no hand and also you suck, plus there's no way you're getting into this castle cos we can last out a siege for years" so Jaime's like "challenge accepted" and basically tricks Edmure into sneaking into the castle and getting it under Lannister control without any need for a battle.

The point of the sequence is that Brynden underestimates Jaime's capabilities, and Jaime promptly proves himself to be just as capable as Tywin was.
