  • i really doubt they're gonna have it all out by the end of the year, but the fact they have a playable third/quarter of the first episode is a good starting point. I'm going to make a prediction of 26th July/2nd August for the first episode.

  • As long as they have episodes coming out on a monthly schedule, I don't see why they can't have all episodes out by the end of the year.

I could see us getting a Season trailer at Comic Con, seeing as how that would be pretty close to the game's release. And, of course, the episode 1 trailer would come out around release.

When should we expect to see a proper trailer? I am kind of surprised TWD S3 comes out after Batman, but debuted a trailer first.

I'd say you're in the minority to most people. Though I do bet 85% of the people on this site liked them since they are telltale fans

I think they both turned out great.

  • I'm hyped though nervous since it is going to be monthly release especially after how telltale most recent games have turned out that were monthly.

  • I'm not sure if I'm very excited that it's monthly. Faster releases usually goes hand in hand with lower quality of episodes.

Hopefully it's a monthly episodes release, Better than waiting 2 or 3 months.

The consensus with Michonne was mostly that episodes were too short (which I agree), but they confirmed episodes will be typical length for Batman.

That, and Telltale's older episodes were also released monthly while still being good. Let's wait until Batman starts before assuming that a monthly episode wait results in less quality. As it is, the correlation seems kinda rocky.

  • Speaking of these 'monthlies'. How did Michonne turn out? I never played it. Heard some... Nothing about it. I literally heard nothing about what people generally thought of it.

I played the demo for Minecraft: Story Mode. All I could think of was 'Is that Patton Oswald?' and 'This is really, really, really, really mediocre'.

I think some of you guys are grossly over estimating how much monthly vs bimonthly/quarterly episodes have an effect on game quality. Michonne's episodes were short, I agree, but that does not correlate with Monthly releases. Older Telltale episodes were also released monthly, and were around 3-6 hours on average while also having good writing.

Some episodes of Walking Dead, Wolf, and Borderlands were released around a month apart towards the end of those series and the episodes were still good. I know monthly episode releases feel strange for newer fans, but I've been a fan of Telltale for years prior to Walking Dead. Monthly episode releases have very little impact on the episodes being better/worse; all it means is that they are working on more of the episodes upfront as opposed to making major revisions on behalf of fan feedback. Some people complained about rewrites in Wolf being too evident, so it's not as if longer episode waiting periods always help. On the other hand, Game of Thrones had bi-monthly releases, and while I liked the series, others found it to not be as interesting as other series despite the longer waiting periods. I have a feeling that if Game of Thrones Season 1 had monthly releases, some of the people criticizing monthly releases would retroactively blame it on monthly releases instead of just not being interested in the story, as some kind of self fulfilling prophecy.

I'm hyped though nervous since it is going to be monthly release especially after how telltale most recent games have turned out that were monthly.

  • Guess you're right. I waited till the whole season came out for their older games so I wouldn't really know.

  • The Michonne series was good, it wasn't great, but it had it's moments. If you read the comics, I definitely think you should play it.

  • I don't know man. I guess all we can do is to wait and see. I know other people liked michonne and minecraft but personally I disliked them and I guess I just blamed it on monthly releases. Well that and the fact I thought they were unessacary. I hope the monthly releases work out, but just feeling nervous about it.

  • For what it's worth, Episode 1 of Michonne was aiming for a fall release, but beyond minor polishing, they held the episode back until February so (I presume anyways) they could work on Episode 2 and 3 and launch the three episodes close together. All that would have changed was that we would get the episodes longer apart, as we still probably would've gotten Episode 2 around early 2015 and Episode 3 in April.

The monthly wait between episodes played a minimal role - they just held back earlier episodes until the later ones were closer to completion so they could release them with less time apart. I imagine in some ways that it was also Telltale getting back into the groove of monthly episode releases as well.

I still think we should wait for Batman and Season 3 before judging, as those will be full length episodes with higher expectations for writing compared to a Minecraft game (I'm not dissing Minecraft; I just mean the source material is light on story and does not as easily support a super complex story) or a three episode mini series with quick pacing.

Telltale needs to stick to monthly episode releases.

Guess you're right. I waited till the whole season came out for their older games so I wouldn't really know.

I get that it feels weird as a newer fan since you came in at a point where bi-monthly/quarterly episodes were the norm, but trust me on this - Telltale has years of experience releasing episodes on a monthly schedule prior to Walking Dead Season 1 that were long and had lots of gameplay. I dunno why Michonne had short episodes, but as I explain in another post, Michonne's earlier episodes were just delayed so they could release closer together. Episode 1 was supposed to be released in Fall, but they held it back and polished it so they could release it closer to Eps 2 and 3.

Whatever Telltale's reason for releasing 60 minute Michonne episodes was, it would not have changed with longer waiting periods.

Telltale's monthly episodes prior to Walking Dead were still good. I think that at this point, they are just working on more of the overall series and choosing to hold onto episodes and release them closer apart. I don't think it necessarily means that they are rushing or cutting corners as some fear.

  • Fair enough, I can't say I've never been in those shoes, sometimes I see more dislike for a game and sometimes I see more like for it and I've seen both almost everywhere I go on the internet xd

  • For me, it was like Telltale's equivalent of Fear the Walking Dead. It's nothing spectacular and doesn't really have any reason to exist, but it's a decent enough distraction from the main series.

Oh wow. I thought they were gonna do it bi-monthly. Like have the premiere in August and then have Season 3 premiere in September and just have both series playing back to back.

  • Both series are going to run concurrently by some point this year, but each series will (very likely) have individual monthly episode releases. So, instead of a month between an episode, it could potentially be as short as two to three weeks if we are lucky, which is really cool! (That's assuming that Telltale spaces their series apart, and that we don't go several weeks without an episode followed by two weeks in a row with a new episode each week, as that would probably be awkward for Telltale.)

  • Thanks @NoTime

I almost forget about this thing.

    AG9 !

  • I kinda missed this 'waiting action' with the threads and excitement. Back on track now, nice.

Is there any estimation as to when exactly in July the ComicCon will be? Early July, late July...? Judging by the previous years, I mean (I've never been following it, so I have no idea).

  • It's July 22-24 this year.

You can say I'm survivable, apparently. Nice to see you.

    Oh wow you're alive. Surprise.

  • I watched the E3 2016 Co-op stage and Job Stauffer said "expect the premiere sometime around August". Would obviously prefer to get the episode in July though.

  • I'd be very surprised if Telltale did actually manage to release all episodes by the end of this year, as there's usually that 3 month wait between each episode.

  • Additionally, Telltale also states they aim to have all episodes out by the end of the year, indirectly confirming monthly episode releases

Tales From the Borderlands fandom crying out of jealousy in the background

  • They've gotten better about returning to monthly episode releases as they did before Season 1 of Walking Dead. Both Minecraft Eps 1-4 and Michonne have had monthly episode releases.
