Make us to hate Clementine

Hey guys, this is a logical theory.

In S 3 we will play as Clem and Javier.
If at the end of the game, there will be a situation: save Clem or Javier who choose to save? Clem for sure ... BUT they (telltale) make us move away emotionally from Clementine. there will be things that will make us move away from her and connect specifically to Jav more.

It's happened in S 2: Jane was a new and we know Kenny ... then explain that a lot of people decided to save Jane? they showed us the bad sides of Kenny, they made us less love him.

I think the same thing is happening in season 3, they are not stupid, they know that most people prefer the Clementine on a new character randomly. Unfortunately we we're going to see a very bad sides of Clem, Javier's good sides and then really compare them.

What do u think?

  • Clem for sure ... BUT

    No, no but

If Clementine dies it means that Lee died for nothing, it means Kenny has done this way for nothing, it means Christa and Omid have died for nothing, poor Aj can not be left without an "older sister" (if he is still alive of course). Too many people have died for her. I can not let them down, I will save Clementine anyway.

  • Still Clementine.

And if she does something radical like kills AJ, then Clementine X1000.

  • I don't care for baby. lol.

I don't think it's easy to do so with a character like Clementine.

  • Why?

I don't think it's easy to do so with a character like Clementine.

  • People dont tend to hate playable characters or the characters you follow, unless you make them utterly horrible people, which if they did with clementine just wouldnt fit her character

  • Maybe they do... but not in the way we think. When we play as Clementine, all of her actions (or almost all) will be justified because they're the actions we chose to do. Probably it would be like that BIG PILE OF HORSE SHIT er... I mean The Wolf Among Us and we will not longer decide that much what kind of person she is. And I don't think Telltale will make her a little asshole, probably she will be like a moral compass again, that would make sense considering AJ was born and gave her hope. AJ would be Clem's moral compass, and Clem would be everyone's moral compass. She wouldn't go back to her infantile idealism of S1, but she wouldn't agree, for example, to kill a stranger just because he could be dangerous. Javier, if you ask me, looks like an asshole. I'm sure he still has a soft spot or something like that, but he won't be as idealistic as Clem, and that will surely cause arguing between them. When we play as Javier, Clem's decisions could be too innocent (letting a stranger live, for example), and even end up being a little annoying, while Javier's desicions will be completly justified (they're the desicions we made as players!). This will cause an internal riviality between both characters.

Of course it wouldn't work at all, and everyone would chose to save Clementine. I made a thread about a few days ago, in which I asked people who would they save if they had to choose between Lee and Clementine, and most people choose Clementine, either saying they liked her character more or that she's just a kid. So, no mather how hard they try, Telltale won't get to make us choose Javier over Clementine without ruining her character.

  • We will control her. Making the player dislike the player character is usually bad game design.

Still wouldn't be great logic, because you developed her throughout S1 and S2. Changing her character without player knowing would be a clanger - I'm sure alot of people wouldn't like the idea, including me.

  • I wrote the following paragraphs a couple of months ago.

It would not work just by saying it, yes. But I believe that the context and situation can be conditioned in a way that it prompts people to think the decision rather than instantly saving Clementine. I will explain it shortly below, hopefully in a way that isn't too confusing.

Let's say Clementine, Javier, and other characters are trapped in an overrun building together with some of the antagonists. We play as Clementine as she hacks down walkers left and right, while also avoiding any possible encounter with an antagonist. At some point, she looks aside, and Javier is being pinned down by a large walker, and have them be a reanimated antagonist for dramatic purposes. Now we see everything in slow motion. Clementine looks behind her, and one of the major antagonists is about to go off with an assault rifle, with a walker soon to take a chomp out of their shoulder. Looking aside again, a second walker is heading for Javier, so he doesn't have much time before he is devoured.

    [RUN AWAY] — [HELP JAVIER]

Clementine can either head for Javier and kill the two walkers, but she will be gunned to death with an assault rifle, and the antagonist will be devoured. Or she can make a break for the outside of the building, and will make it in time before being shot, but Javier and the antagonist will be devoured.

  • Well since a part of me feels dead inside after reading that, you definitely could work at Telltale.

  • I do not think TTG will try such an approach.

There are a lot more mature ways to say your opinion.

  • I don't see Clementine as becoming a person people will begin to hate. She has grown on people and become a favorite among many. Javier however looks like he could be a real piece of work. I can see conflict developing between these two as the season progresses.

  • What exactly do you think they would do to make people move away from Clementine emotionally?

  • As an aspiring writer, I thank you for the compliment.

  • This again???! He's a baby. Sometimes you people scare me!

Still Clementine. And if she does something radical like kills AJ, then Clementine X1000.

  • In order to make us truly dislike Clementine, there would have to be a lack of "good cop" choices/dialogue options when we are playing as her. Who wants that? In fact, who would want to play as a character they dislike? If that happens, they will put down the game. I'm not saying Clementine can't die, but I don't see villainising her as the way to go.

  • …are you alive though?
