What if Jane and Bonnie switched roles in Howe's?

  • It would have worked out ok I think but one possible problem in my opinion, mostly with Bonnie. A big part of Bonnie's character was her trust issues with Clementine. That wouldn't have much reason to exist if Bonnie was just another prisoner and not one of Carver's main people. This would have affected Bonnie's already limited character development.

Also, Bonnie would have needed a lot more time before the escape than Jane did. Jane was able to go a while without opening her mouth when we are first introduced to her. That definitely wouldn't have worked that well with Bonnie.

It isn't a matter of cruelty, it's a matter of discrepancy between past and present tense.

I looked at the video again and Bonnire exactly says "I have a little girl like you." Present tense. Even if Becca did not come with her to the camp, which in my mind rules out Becca because Bonnie would no longer currently know her.

"Have" also implies family-like connection or affection, which I don't believe Bonnie had either for Becca.

And, looking at the video again, she repeatedly tells them she has a "family" (a little strong of a weird to call Carver's group) essentially misleading them about her intentions in the first place.

She still knew her at some point, so she has someone to compare Clementine to, even if that person was needlessly cruel towards her.

  • Oh, I got you. Though, her using the word "family" could also be a sly shout-out to Carver's motivation.

Also, when I said cruel, I was referring to Becca throwing Leland's abandonment back in Bonnie's face and comparing that to Clementine's initial suspicion of her: Two harsh worded girls. She even notes that Clementine is younger than she woulda thought if you tell her your age, which further implicates that she could've been referring to Becca, who is apparently somewhere around Sarah's age.

  • Well basically what I got from the OP is that Bonnie and Jane swap roles at Howes and then continue their arcs as normal after that. Whilst this might fine-tune Jane's character development a little bit (like plant the seeds of her and Kenny's distrust, etc) it makes things a lot worse for Bonnie in my opinion. Where would Clementines/the players trust issues with Bonnie be if she was just another prisoner that wanted to escape with them? They would have little reason to exist.

  • Considering how Clementine and Bonnie interact after the escape, I'd say the trust issues weren't really a long term thing and probably could've been left out or given to another character. Plus, if the two not trusting each other is really a big deal, then there are other ways of having that established than having Bonnie show up alongside Carver at the lodge.

If I can pretend I'm still as blind about the way Season 2 went down as I was back in June, I'd think that Clementine, Kenny, and, to a far lesser extent, Bonnie wouldn't need as much establishment as the original characters due to having pre-established connections with the audience and thus more time could be spent developing them as the main story goes along.

I believe she said it to seem more sympathetic and less threatening, since based on body language and other cues Kenny and possibly Walter v

  • My life outside of the forums has been piling up with work and school, and I already have a fair share of backlogged writing projects. Sorry, this is extremely low priority for me at the moment.

  • It also makes sense for Jane to borrow the line from Bonnie as she meets Clem, "I used to have a little girl like you." I never liked this line coming from Bonnie. We've played her character in 400 days, we know it's not true, and it seems like a frivolous thing to lie about.

I thought she was talking about Becca?

  • Cool! Completely understandable. Just checking in on ya.

  • No worries at all, Home!

This was month and a half ago, so let's just leave this potential list as a cancelled entry, such as I shamelessly did with a discussion that I forgot to address, with @IronWoodLover about Arvo.
