Well it definitely looks like motion capture to me. You can usually tell when something's been animated by animators vs when it's real people doing actual the motions.
Like this game, Clock Tower 3 used motion captured. And you can tell the details in how the characters move and more often other models will make contact:
While in this game, Tomb Raider Anniversary, the characters motions are animated:
From what I remember of a Toy Story Commentary a simple thing as a character picking up an object, or two characters even hugging can take some effort when it's being animated. In mocap if I'm correct it limits this issue and can make characters body language that more realistic. However, there's still things like model clipping to deal with, and unlike animation if they need to do any big changes it's possible they'd have to reshoot the scene, while with animation it'd be easier to make modifications...erm...I think anyways.
Comparing the animation in the Season 3 preview to Batman, you can tell in Batman the characters are animated. With Life is Strange, there were segments with mocap and other times when they didn't, so it's possible Season 3 could have a mixture of the same thing too. But I don't think Telltale's using mocap on the faces for Season 3. I think it's just body mocap they've captured and they animate the faces which Life is Strange did as well. Although sometimes It's been known in both films and games that mocap or voice sessions are recorded so animators can have references to work with.
So I have a quick question, obviously alot of the animations do appear that they are mo-capped, and a lot of people have been saying it is, but has it actually been confirmed that alot of the animations are indeed mo-capped?
If the sound issues are actually fixed then that's great! But what about the stuttering Batmobile scene in Episode 3 and the Codex bug in Episode 1 that literally breaks the game?
I could see that being how it plays out. It would also explain why they'd release two episodes at once; if the first episode was focused on Javier, you can bet that there'd be a lot of pissed off people all like "I have to wait a month to see Clementine? That's BS!" (it might sound ridiculous, but seriously. We all know that's exactly what would happen.)
Ep 1: 'Ties That Bind' Part 1- Javier's Backstory (to present timeline)
Ep 2: 'Ties That Bind' Part 2- Clementine's Backstory (to present timeline)
Thats what I think the plot of the episodes will be...
But meh probs wrong ))
I think that they actually did use (some) mocap for Batman? I recall hearing they got a stunt team to handle the fight scenes in Batman so they could use those animations, or something to that extent?
Poogers that is crazy talk...plus if they did MoCap...it would have been something they would have done for Batmaan and we would have heard it mentioned.
Yeah i reckon episode 2 will end with them meeting up (or it could just be flashbacks). Cus then it doesn't end up with Clem just showing up randomly theres actually story to why she or Javier are there

so just curious since Xbox 360&PS3 are not listed on the console list does this mean 360 and ps3 will not get S3 after all? 360 is all i have and what i played on and originally i saw it was for 360 but now i've heard its only for next gen consoles
I'm guessing that they are holding back the ports for the 360 and PS3 versions for more polish (if they are not cancelled), after seeing how Batman ran on 360/PS3 with Telltale's updated engine. They recently just released a huge optimization patch for Batman on Steam and previously updated mobile versions, so it's not entirely impossible that they are focusing on having future Telltale titles using the new engine run better on older consoles as well.

Hector (attacked by walker) = Javier's older brother (boy on left in photo)
Beanie boy and headband girl = Hector's children
Earring girl from key art = Hector's [rather young or favorable genes] wife (I think she called the older woman a mother name, thus my reasoning for her being married)
David = family friend/Hector's friend... maybe a distant relative
Those are my theories. Just thought I'd add fuel to the speculation fire.
EDIT: After looking in another thread, I might be wrong about everything except the parents...
I'm gonna say something that seems kinda rare on this thread. Say something positive. All anyone does here is moan that they cant have their precious kenny kill javier and sail off with clem on a boat where they get married and have kids, I think their new animations are beautiful and I love how subtle gestures they make can completely create a sense of realism.
I...don't have strong impressions on the realistic motion capture on the characters....it doesn't look right and seems kind of awkward.
M… moreaybe I'm just too used to the usual Telltale animation but the awkwardness kept from liking the trailer as much. Maybe my opinion will change but for now it's just...eh.
I don't think Elanor (The little girl) or the little boy are Javier's siblings, they're probably his neices/nephews as Javier's brother calls Elanor "baby" which is what you'd say to your child or partner, not your little sister.
The woman who died was Javier's mother, or Javier's grandma?
Javier called her Mamá, which means mom, but is usual in some countries call M… moreamá to your grandma too
And the little girl, who seemed to be Javier's sister, called her Yaya, and yaya is a typical way of saying grandma
Besides the fact she was too old to be Javier's mother, and seemed to be the wife of the old man that died.
OH MY GOD, WHEN WILL PEOPLE UNDERSTAND! ITS NOT ALL ABOUT CLEMENTINE! They will not have a whole episode dedicated to her backstory, like they said, she will be playable through flashbacks so it will probably be every once in a while.
Ep 1: 'Ties That Bind' Part 1- Javier's Backstory (to present timeline)
Ep 2: 'Ties That Bind' Part 2- Clementine's Backstory (to present timeline)

I don't really think that the Premiere of ANF is going to have each of the first two episodes dedicated to each character. If that were to happen, how would they introduce the character switching in Episode 3? If we were to spend episode 1 playing strictly as Javier, episode 2 strictly as Clementine, and then Episode 3 comes along and sometime we switch from Javi to Clem at random times, it would feel weird. What's really going to happen is that I think a large part of Episode 1 is going to be spent on discovering what happened to Javier before and during the apocalypse, and some of what Clem did after Season 2. Then, episode 2 will get the main plot moving, establishing antagonists, side characters, subplots, etc. It's just too much to fit in one, Two-hour-ish episode, without condensing it a lot and losing its value.
Im pretty sure the two episodes wont go: One is 100% focused on Javier, the other is 100% on Clem, it'll probably feel like what a Telltale episode usually feels like, its only called Part 1 and 2 because its releasing on the same day.

I always wait for the 5 episodes to be out so I can play everything in one day, and that "previously in X telltale game" is annoying as hell, same as "Next time in X telltale game"
I Wonder if there also be Episode 3-4 release in one day. xD
And i'm also wondering will there be Previously On Episode 1 scene at the beginning of Ep2?
I thought about that, but I'm not convinced. The kid looks too young to be the same guy in the screenshot. Four years is a long time, but unless that kid had a giant growth spurt, I don't think they're the same.
This is very random but am I the only one who noticed that Shel and Lilly have the same facial design? Stephanie and Carley too. They may not be exactly the same but damn do they look similar.
but even his name is too powerful for a mortals program to handle. His name will certainly come up at least once from Clementine then say goodbye to your Pc or console.
So I have a quick question, obviously alot of the animations do appear that they are mo-capped, and a lot of people have been saying it is, but has it actually been confirmed that alot of the animations are indeed mo-capped?
You guys think the other guy that showed up in the screenshots (and key art) could be David?
You don't see the guy's face directly, but they seem to have a similar shape.

So if Clementine has Javier as a prisoner, is she going to sell him for food to some crazy baseball fanatics? Say, a bag of cheesepuffs for an autograph; a can of soda for a photo, or maybe even a bar of chocolate for a hug? God that kid's going to get fat.
Maybe this is a thing they're both in on, because they're hungry, but they're too lazy to learn how to hunt. It'd be like the great Sweet Pea hustle!

Coming into a fandom late when there's new neeeews:
And hi Wolf! ^_____^
Well guess you can't play your game then. But I can, since Kenny won't be in my game.
This is so accurate XD

hello!
I finally heard my child's voice. I couldn't be happier. ;______;
I knuuuu T.T our little sweet pea is growing up!
It was on a post about fandoms on tumblr, so funny XD
and she's STILL scowling and now taking people hostage
I'm so proud ;____;
You mean the codex thing where you can't back out of it? That's been fixed since a few days after the first episode came out.
As for stuttermobile, haven't made it that far. I was playing through all four episodes to see how it's going, only made it to episode 2 so far.
I could see that being how it plays out. It would also explain why they'd release two episodes at once; if the first episode was focused on Javier, you can bet that there'd be a lot of pissed off people all like "I have to wait a month to see Clementine? Did anyone else notice the family photo?

They sure seem to be a lot smoother.
I'm pretty sure they don't have the same nose and mouth shape.
I dont really see it but one reason could be recycled designs, shel or stephanie wern't that big of characters so copying designs is likely
Wait...
Clem likes hats

Man, I can't wait for the 20th. Javier is gonna go full OWL on everybody's asses.
I think that's David's son. The boy from the preview.

Maybe they're just that one person who heeds the "Take a break every so often" warnings that used to appear before every game ten years ago.
wait, what?
