  • Since Clementine is 13 and the game takes place 4 years in, it has to be fall. Clementine's 9th birthday was in fall in Season 1.

  • I just want to say that I love the vagueness of the dialogue at the end of the trailer last week.

"I did whatever I had to do to protect them." - Javier
"Sometimes, it's not enough." - Clementine

I know that TellTale says he's been separated from his family. However, this line may not mean what we think it means (at least from what I've seen from some people predicted). Javier has done whatever he has had to do. Considering that the teaser implies that Javier and his family may not have the greatest relationship, it makes me wonder what he has done since the outbreak to make up and resolve that discord. Depending on his desperation, he may have done some questionable things. Having done some morally grey things could have hurt in the end as he put being a protector over being family. Maybe this also connect to (as revealed by Job I believe) his baseball career. Maybe Javier left for baseball to be that breadwinner of the family when in reality, they needed him to play a different role. Thus, hurting their relationship. This occurs during the apocalypse as he, once again, plays a role he thinks his family needs instead of what they really want.

He also doesn't sound like he's mournful in that line (I am analyzing a line of dialogue without facial and situational context, so there is that). He doesn't sound like he failed in his goal to protect those he cared about. TellTale only mentioned Clementine as the one on a vengeance quest. Maybe he protected them but never gained the trust and unity he had longed for. Unlike Lee who was successfully able to use the apocalypse as a chance to redeem himself as a person, maybe Javier's 2nd chance with his family at everyone's most desperate state failed. Maybe Clementine's response refers to how some people need more than just protection in this world. This could actually be a wiser response than what I thought originally; that sometimes you can't stop the inevitable. This could refer to many things: Lee being a father figure when her family was taken from her, how Christa solely focused on making Clementine a good survivor, Pete's role to Luke and Nick, how Jane's weakness was her fear and longing for personal connection, how Kenny's quest for family caused him to struggle being a protector, Clementine's personal failures, etc. It would also be awesome that if a player prompted Javier to say such dialogue, Clementine's response was determinant depending on previous choices.

Looking back at it, I have a strong feeling that episode one will primarily take place on this road we see in the trailer. Javier and Clementine will share their past experiences as we go from the present to each character's respective flashback. It will be similar to TFTBL where each character will take turns with their story. I say that with what I've said above because I feel like this will explain the unresolved questions I've mentioned. Instead of a "previously on" segment, the first episode will supplement that.

...Then again, I could just be over analytical right now. My senior design project is killing me. This is what happens when an engineering undergrad watches a trailer one too many times after crunching hard numbers and data all day. But I'm sure I'm not alone on this... right?

  • Well, telltale always depended of his next episodes, if you don't play EP 2 of Wolf Among Us right after Ep 1 everything is going to be confusing, same with most episodes of Minecraft Story Mode, they are all connected.

The only game they didn't do that was with Walking dead Season 1, since there was a time jump between Ep 1, 2 and 3.

Ok, well, for all the people confused about whatever's going on with the Episode 1 - parts one and two, and how it affected Telltale's whole

  • I believe it would be better if she did not lose the last bit of charisma she has with me by becoming an annoying little edgy brat with whom I am stuck with for all four episodes.

I hope there's sassy dialogue options for Clementine. Her roast on Rebecca (S2E1) was so good.

  • She might be thirteen and a half, right?

Since Clementine is 13 and the game takes place 4 years in, it has to be fall. Clementine's 9th birthday was in fall in Season 1.

  • This is the season outline before the division.

    1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 5 = ALL EPISODES

After chopping the large premiere, they'll present the halves as two episodes that can be played on a single sitting.

    1 = 0.5 + 0.5 = TWO ONE-SITTING EPISODES

    This is the result.

    0.5 + 0.5 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4 = ALL EPISODES

Do you notice the trickery? Magic! The plot points and character development of one entire episode have been scrapped in favor of releasing two episodes on the same day.

This is unless they do a hundred and eighty degree turn and have the remaining the episodes with two hours of duration, which I doubt will happen.

  • that's some deep analysis. I agree with mostly everything you said.

even though it would be cool if Clem said a different dialogue based on our choices but after all she's been through, I think that line would suit her perfectly.

okay that's an interesting theory but why does Clem has him hostage. is she learning his story by 'interrogating' him!?

TellTale only mentioned Clementine as the one on a vengeance quest.

I'm pretty sure both of them are on a vengeance quest ( look at the teasor).

yea agreed his family didn't look very excited to have him back.

nope buddy. I'm a law student and need to make time to memorise the fucking constitution articles and what not? And currently my exams are going on and idk how tf will I clear them especially now that I have ANF stuck in my head.

That would be almost five years in, though. Also, the leafs look like autmn leafs. So my guess is that it's early November 2007 in the game, shortly after Clem's 13th birthday (just speculation of course).

  • Oh wow, You people weren't lying when you said that TFTB did a great job with using 2 playable characters.
They replace between them so smoothly and fitting.
I really hope TWD will have the same kind of mechanic between Javier and Clementine.
Thank you again @dojo32161 for providing me with this masterpiece.

  • Telltale did jump back and forth on whether she was 13 or 14 now so it could be almost 5 years.

  • What if Javier was one of Clementine's father's favorite players?

  • Every day I'm getting more and more done of my XBox. What could a good argument to convince my family to change it for a PS4?

  • Well..doing chores....making a deal. There are any number of ways of sweet talking a new system out of your parents. I have no clue as to if you celebrate xmas...but the willingness to forgo other presents..and the will to actually speak to your parents and letting them know...you want one. If there is a place to trade in your old system and games and dvds you no longer watch...that would help too.

  • That would be cool provided she remembers. Someone mentioned somewhere that I would be awesome if the "D" on Clem's hat was the team Javier played for.

  • Are we even sure he played in a team and not just have a shirt of his favorite team?

    Around 1:45

It will be kind of cool. He does have the build for it, and his first instinct when facing off against his zombified father was to use the bedpost as a baseball bat. Also, Javier seems (to me at least) a bit estranged with his family, maybe he hasn't been home in a while. Javier also owns his own car, which would mean that he has at least a decent income. Now, it would be a pretty damn big stretch for him to be playing for Ed's favourite team, but maybe he recognizes its logo, like, "Hey, we played against those guys once!"

I don't know. I'd like for it to happen.
