Why do people hate AJ

I simply don't understand.... What did this baby do to deserve all this hate?

  • People hate Aj, seriously? Aj is probably the cutest baby I've ever seen.

  • Because he is a liability they say and attracts the walkers. I don't hate him though

  • Something that every baby would do. Yeah so why hate?

  • I don't hate him, but I don't see a particular reason to like him?

  • I don't think its anything personal against AJ, just people don't want to look after a baby in the apoc

  • Just wait til the change AJ's diapers quick time event. Everyone will hate him after that.

  • The same reason some people hate babies now, except amplified. They think they are too much responsibility. I personally dont see any reason to hate him. He didnt ask to be born in a zombie apocalypse, and he is the most quiet, well behaved baby ever made.

  • Theres no particular reason to like anyone until you get to know them.

Am I supposed to like a baby that came out of the person I had no emotional investment with?

  • I don't hate AJ even though it's a poorly written plot device , " hey clem , your best friend who you just slapped ..has just fallen to her grave ?" ...1 minute later.." Forget about that , wow a baby" ..... I knew Kenny cared about kids but I didn't also know he was mother Teresa , smh .. But I don't hate AJ

  • I don't hate it, but I don't have much of a bond.
In S2, at the start of E5, I went for the baby. But well, that's what you do I guess. I care for it, but don't "care" for it, if you get me.

  • Honestly it feels like a lot of Walking Dead fans hate everything now.

  • I don't hate him, but it seems so unrealistic and stupid that 11yo girl was able to survive two years with a goddamn baby on her own.

  • People hate AJ now? Every day there's a new thing to hate I guess.

  • People hated him the minute he was born. Some fans wanted him to die, probably still do.

  • What kind of person hates a baby?!

Because he's a forced dependent character that came from two annoying characters that steals attention and continues to get called handsome when he looks like a squashed patato.

    I'm guessing.

  • I like him, although i think people would have more of an attachment to him if he was Omid Jr instead.

  • I don't think people hate him as much now, but some people used to hate his guts back in S2, they hated him so bad that they thought he would make good walker food if Clem ever finds herself stuck. Sadistic as fuck!

  • He is a cute baby but I guess beauty...eye of the beholder, all that.

Made a massive post near the bottom of this page stating my reasons why AJ is unlikeable.

    To summarise:

    • There is no reason to spend years of life raising him outside of "it's the right thing to do."
    • He is the product of one or two (arguable to some) of some of the most unrelatable and unlikeable characters in the series that we were supposed to connect with.
    • He would be and probably was such a drain on Clementine that he's probably a contributive reason as to why she became who she is today.
    • There is more than the perception that he is forced, he was actually forced and guilted onto Clementine without any input from herself or the player. The most notable examples being Rebecca calling her "family" despite knowing Clementine for less than two weeks and Kenny calling her a "big sister" without any response, rebuttal or acceptance of this being offered. This baby just is your sole responsibility now.
  • Natural response to change, I guess..
I, in particular did not enjoy the baby's face and animations, looks like a 4-6 year old face on a toddlers body and so "it's" behavior annoyed me

  • Agree, but perhaps it was the NF's help that got AJ and Clem shelter?

  • NF meets Clem when AJ is already a toddler, so they had to survive on their own before, which is highly ridiculous.

  • So, nothing actually having to do with him.

No I think it has plenty to do with him.

  • Well, sure. He's 2 years old. Of course he's not going to have anything in his character that makes us love or hate him.

Is that supposed to absolve him of any criticism or dislike on his place in the story or with the cast?

What kind of person hates a baby?!

  • You can hate his reasons for being there but I think its unfair to hate him,

  • I don't hate AJ. I don't know AJ. The issue with using anyone ( not just an infant ) as a plot device to provoke action or emotion is that the writers first have to establish a connection between the characters. Without doing so, it makes the situation and the characters feel forced and unnatural.

It's also the reason most critiques for writers come with the advice of show - don't tell. We've been told Clem spent a great deal of time caring for AJ for some reason, but we as players weren't shown them bonding for any length of time ( unlike the natural flow of Clem bonding with Lee. )

This could've been bypassed if AJ had been the child of someone that Clem had bonded with in a previous game, but we're not given that in Season 2. For example if Kenny had a child with Sarita during his absence, the audience would've felt some pull through the history with Kenny ( like him or hate him, he already lost one child ). Alternatively, if AJ had been Luke and Jane's love child, it would provide a connection through Luke's death and the audience's history with Jane and Luke.

  • To quote myself when this was last asked:

"One of his only, if not only, purpose for existence is to set up and force the last minute Kenny and Jane rivalry, which had little to no development outside of the last episode of season 2 and was simply Telltale trying, and failing, to make up for the lack of actual choice in the game. He's only there to serve as a plot device for Jane to get Kenny to see red, as otherwise, there would've been no fight because they had no reason to be fighting in the first place. It's hard to care for him if he's only used to further a badly written conflict."

But do I actually hate AJ? No, but I have no reason to give a fuck about him either. Him being a baby does not in anyway make me form an attachment.

  • Because he is young, but I dont hate him for that.

I know that he is not useful, but what we have to do is taught him to be useful, not killing him.

  • After Aj's birth in S2, I kinda didn't like that we were forced to take care of him. However, after seeing him in S3, I'm obsessed with finding out what happened to him. I hope that he's still alive and that Clementine just left him with her new comrades in the NF when she decided to leave.

  • I quite like AJ in A New Frontier actually, what he has done to deserve so much love from Clem is another story though, there is no real reason she should have cared back when he was born, Clem barely knew Rebecca, she barely knew Alvin, why would she care for their baby? Kenny was the one who cared for the baby, why should Clem? I mean I see why she loves him now, considering she spent 2 years with him, but it just doesnt seem logical that she would take him with her, unless it was like Kennys baby or something

Thought I would hate him because I thought he'd be annoying as hell. I was wrong and I really like him so far.
