How do you feel about playing as Javier?

Even though I like Javier's character, I can't help but feel like Clementine should have been the protagonist, and maybe have us play as Javier through flashbacks. What about you?

  • I like Javier so far, I think he's pretty interesting and I'm interested in seeing how things with his brother play out. Clementine on the other hand, I feel like if her role is so secondary this season, then she just shouldn't have been in it. I don't like Clementine so far this season, either.

  • I like him a lot, he has the potential to become one of the best Telltale protagonists so far. But with that being said, I do wish we had a little more time playing as Clementine. Even if it's just flashbacks where we play as her, they could be a bit longer and more numerous in the episodes. I get that this is supposed to be Javier's story, but when you list Clem as a co-playable character, then they need to treat her like one, because as of now, we've had a max of 10 minutes as Clementine in a total of 150 minutes of game.

  • It's just that, by playing as her, we were the ones that decided how much the choices made during season 1 and 2 affected her character. In Season 3, she just looks too different from the Clementine I left at the end of season 2.

  • I really like him, he's a welcomed addition to the game. My only problem with Clem and Javier both being playable in that Clem is only playable for 10 minutes for 2 episodes. She was promised at the second playable protagonist and so far she seems like she's only there because ANF is a sequel to S2. I wish it was more like TFTB, where you would switch between both Rhys and Fiona during the sections of the game. The same could be applied with Javier and Clementine. Other than that, I really have no problem at all.

  • TFTB did the whole dual-protagonist thing so much better.

  • Well, I mean, that just goes without saying. You simply cannot beat Lee.

    Javier's still pretty cool, tho

  • I like Javier. He's an okay guy. He's not Lee, but that's fine. I didn't have any expectations for starting off as a new character.

To be honest, I prefer seeing Javier as the protagonist than Clementine. I'm hoping that Javier will develop into a character that separates him from Lee and Clementine, and will be memorable in his own right.

At least with Clementine as the supporting cast she's liable to have more of a personality and a story arc of her own, and so far her role in Season 3 feels more fleshed out and meaningful than the role she had as a protagonist in Season 2. Granted, Clementine behaves the same way regardless of our past choice in Season 3 so far, but I feel that she is more of a character now than she was from last season.

  • That's it.

Your humor streak has been lost.

  • I love it. I enjoy playing as him more then i did Lee or Clementine

    Javier
    Lee
    Clementine

  • I prefer it to clementine as she can be her own character again. No other real comments beside that

  • I'm enjoying playing as Javi. Its rather a refreshing change of pace.

  • Not really that impressed by Javier, but I'll obviously have to deal with him to see how the game ends this season. He's a tad boring and cliche. Lee was best Clem was better and Javier is acceptable.

By the end of the first episode in Season 1 I felt like I knew who Lee Everett was and how he would react to situations.

Two episodes into Season 3 and Javier still feels like a blank slate to me. He doesn't have enough personality however you chose to play him.

  • I'm indifferent towards the character. I have no attachment to him either way. The overall feeling I got from playing the first two episodes is that ttg is trying to rediscover something it lost with this IP by rebooting it with a new protagonist. But I not sure they hit that mark with Javier. His brother is a stronger character and he's only in the game for like two minutes total.

  • To me it wouldn't have made much sense to play Javier in flashbacks.
In general I think he's a good protagonist... he's not Lee, but he's alright,

  • Bored. He's your generic run of the mill main character who's inexplicable untimely warming up to to Clementine leaves me a bit apprehensive about wanting an adult male character.

  • How do you feel about playing as Javier?

I don't . Wanted to play as Clem.enter image description here

  • I like Javier but I wish Clementine had a more prominent role in the story and we could play as her more

  • I think Javier's a great character and playing as him works. And despite Clementine not being the protagonist she's still a major character.

  • I feel like TellTale left so much of his personality in our hands that I can tell very little about him as a character.

I'm playing him as a good guy who tries to not get in trouble up until the point when someone messes with his family, at which point he becomes very prone to shoot people in the face.

  • Javi is fine, I do like the guy. But in my mind he will always be over shadowed by Clem and Lee.

I think he would work very well outside of their shadows tho.

  • OBJECTION! Fishing for compliments after using a punny joke...I seek Punitive damages to my punnybone.

  • But you can bite him sadly.

  • I don't mind him, but I want Clem to have a more prominent role. He's really well done, don't get it twisted, but if I wanted a new story I would have bought a new game.

  • I got a little disappointed to be honest :( I really thought Clem was going to be the protagonist again... I like Javi so far though, but what bothers me is that he reminds me so much of Luke, even their friendship if you're not an arse to Clem. And I remember that I was so sure that we would be playing as him (Luke) in S3 Which I think it would be better, since we have a story with him :/ But in my opinion, he's an OK character though, nothing beyond that, at least not for now.

  • So far I do like Javier but I think i still need to know a bit more about him before I actually can tell how interesting he is as a playable character. Lee is still superior to him in my eyes... (but let's be honest, it's really hard to top Lee :D)

Only one thing i'm not very happy about is that I tend to be really bias when it comes to decisions that concern Clementine. xD And no I'm not blaming this game for that, I'm just noticing that I tend to make decisions that i wouldn't normally make because of Clementine :P Like, I'm more that ready to ditch Javier's family as long as Clementine is safe.

  • I like it, I love it, and I want more of it. Way more fun than playing as Clementine.

  • This is my thought, he would have been so much better as a star of his own game, and then make season 3 continue the story from season 2 more directly, instead we get a mix of both, and Javier gets overshadowed by Clem, who most of us care more for

  • I like playing as an android with no personali- I mean Javier , really let's me engage with the riveting narrative unfolding so far looking at it through his eyes.

He's "Tabula Rasa", blank as a board, nothing special.

I doubt they'll be able to make him have a personality and interesting (no matter if we control him or not) like Lee. I mean come on baseball player, that just lost his family? I thought there won't be cliches like that but hey I've been wrong before. I just don't get why some people think he's cool.

  • I dont think introducing a new character, with an already established backstory into a game, that relies almost entirely on your choices, as a playable character was a good idea, it worked with Clementine (at least I liked it), as she was someone I cared for, and the first game had been all about protecting her, and then her taking over the mantle, with Javier, I dont really feel much of anything, the way I felt compelled to protect Clem in season 1, Clem being there makes me care for her, even though I should be caring about someone else, I quite like seeing Clem from an outside perspective, but I think it undermines what Telltale has done with season 1 and 2, having us be the mind behind Clementine so to speak, and then Telltale choses her character now, I would have liked this game alot more, if it had been a sidestory, or spinoff without Clem, and then create a game with Clem as the protagonist (I know not everyone agrees)

  • I find Javier to be a little bland and I'm not really all that invested in his family. Maybe I just play him as a boring character?

Lee was protective, dependable and the peacemaker of the group.

My Clem was compassionate, tough, loyal, peaceful and driven by a desire for belonging.

My Javier is... I'm still working that out. Preapocalypse, he had made some mistakes in the past and lost sight of was important. Now, he's not going to make those mistakes again and has realised that family is all he has left. He's fiercely protective of Kate and the kids, and can be impulsive / dangerous in his methods for keeping them safe (e.g. shooting Conrad). He's flirtatious (Eleanor, Kate) and has a boyish charm about him. He's good at talking. He and Kate had an easygoing relationship before the outbreak, and I think there were feelings involved from Kate's end. Now... it's complicated. Although I did pick all the romantic options, I think that Javi loves her, but isn't /in/ love with her.

  • I like play as Javier. But I would like to play as Clem in the present time, and not only in flashbacks.

Still, Javier is a good character and I like it a lot. One of the best characters in Telltale's TWD.

  • I <3 him. Telltale please don't kill him off. :'(

  • I feel the same way. It should've been opposite....we play primarily as Clementine and Javi through flashbacks. I do like where Javier's story is going though. The twist at the end of Ties that Bind pt 2 was unexpected. I just hope that we get to see Clementine more. I want the overall story to remain about Clem, even if we are seeing it through Javier's eyes.
