Max is a good guy.
I really like Max. I think he's a genuinely good guy. Despite him being a clear hot head you can tell that he's a good guy. Even in that first encounter in episode 1 he sympathises with Javier after catching him stealing his stuff. "Look, I... I get it, alright? You're starving, who the fuck isn't? At the end of your rope, thought you hit paydirt. Honest mistake." Granted right after that he punched you in the gut but he sympathised with you! Then in episode 2 he tried to calm things down but unfortunately Badger was looking for a fight. All he wanted was Javier and if Javi does come down he wants to get him in the truck and leave but Badger was determined to kill him right there. Max had no knowledge of a hostage and was against Badger's actions. Finally at the end of the episode there are more sympathetic lines from him. He shows remorse over what happened at Prescott and if you pick "She's a mother" Max gets emotional "Look, it's not as if I don't got a heart, alright?" Then rather than shooting you he asks you to lower your weapons then calls the boss out to make a decision.
So those are my thoughts on Max, I really like him and hope we get to see more of him and that he becomes a bigger character. What are your thoughts on Max?
Comments
Yeah, I like Harry from Home Alone too.
Haha, in all seriousness, I think he's cool. I like how sympathetic he is and it shows that even some "bad guys" are good people. It's interesting that he is somewhat the opposite of characters like Badger (I hope Badger has a painful death). I really hope that Telltale doesn't kill him off because I think he'd be a nice character to develop.
I've got a sneaky fuckin' feeling that he'll be joining our group, while Badger is the main bad guy.
I think he might join but Badger doesn't seem like main antagonist material to me.
Max is a really good character so far. There's a lot of potential for him.
Now watch him get killed off in the middle of Episode 3 for shock value.
I've got a feeling that instead of Max getting killed, Badger will. I feel like David will brutally murder him so Telltale can show off how unhinged he has inevitably become.
That'd be cool and all, but I'd prefer to be the one to kill him.
He only talks, but does nothing.
He did not deserve mercy for herself. Words are wind.
I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
What is there to understand? He does not try to correct the situation and just talked, words not help. If he was a good guy, he would have hit Badger in the face at least when he out of control and took hostage (Francine).
Oh so turn against his own people, get himself killed and have Francine die anyway?
I'll be surprised if we don't get a brutal death for Badger once Javi tells David what happened. It'll certainly be interesting to see how Max ends up shaking out.
This is so true. Say what you will about Telltale but their antagonists are always so well done.
So you like people who go on a rampage over some pudding? Good to know.
Trying is better than doing nothing. Yes.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. I didn't know his name though. I knew he was an okay guy the first time he pointed a gun at me as he forced me into that trailer. I actually didn't want to even attack his accomplice and reason my way around maybe even make friends with them. The second hints I get is when he wasn't completely onboard with Badger's ideas, he thought Badger was going too far and didn't want to assault Prescott. These clues were enough to let me to surrender my weapons firsthand to get quick help from him to help Kate and well it all paid off.
And I didn't hesitate to put a bullet in Conrad's head to save Clementine. In fact I would have trusted Max more than Conrad even if he was on the other side. Conrad was a loose cannon he was just looking for an excuse to go on a killing spree he was another dumbass Nick. Another thing to talk about Walking Dead characters so far is that many are in a grey area meaning they're not always full on villain or hero, though some characters like Carver and Troy you can tell were evil to the core.
Really? I don't really recall debating with you more than once.
Personally I didn't shoot Conrad. Not because I supported his plan, I was 100% against it, I just didn't want to kill him.
EDIT: Not really sure what relevance Conrad has to this discussion though.
Conrad's plan is pointless IF you knew Javier's brother was the leader or from my guess a lieutenant of the New Frontier in charge of Richmond. I wouldn't have let him lived either way like I said the man was a liability.
Are you serious? Think about what kind of comparison you made first please.
Love 'em!
I'm a little hesitant on calling Max a good guy considering his hot-headed temperament, his violent reaction to a couple of puddings being eaten, and how he takes Javier hostage regardless of whether you tried to be civil or not and yet objects to Badger taking Francine hostage in Episode 2. It's probably just me, but I find that a little hypocritical of him.
There's also how he can kill Javier if the player doesn't open the cabin door in time before he pulls the trigger on an unarmed man.
Don't get me wrong, I do know that there's another side to Max that may be further explored in Episode 3. I'm just not all that eager to give him the benefit of the doubt just yet.
He didn't kill us at the junkyard.
He didn't want to kill us at Prescott.
He didn't kill us at Richmond.
That would've been a foolish thing to do.
If he is dead, he can't correct the situation.
Vallory was shitty, though.
Not trying to be a downer, but as I see it all those game over scenarios are non-canon and shouldn't be used to judge a character.
If it's meant to be a non-canon situation, then it doesn't explain why the option for the player to die right there and then exists in the first place over a cabin door not being opened in time.
It doesn't change the fact that Max is proven to willingly kill an unarmed man for hesitating.
To be fair, he does give Javi a good ~30 seconds to open the door and multiple threats to open it before he shoots him
Interesting, I only knew about Max killing Javier from the 'Details that people might not forget...' thread, but not how much time it can take before Max has enough of the stalling and executes Javier on the spot.
...Which begs the question, why doesn't Max just open the door or kick the door down himself? I was under the impression that the place was his own property. Killing Javier seems a little excessive.
Just like Conrad shooting Gabriel and Javier if you do nothing. I think that should be indicative of what said character would do if corned/forced.
Because if you shouldn't use them, why not just pause the game and grey out? No, instead Conrad shoots both or Badger shoots Javier. I think it's safe to use outcomes.
He was convinced that Javier's people are waiting to make an ambush. That's why he has Javier open the door. "You get ambushed by your own people that shits gonna make my day."
Ah, I forgot about that little detail.
But the question is—is the corn canned?
... ... ... -.-
I won't edit for reference.
If we are really joining the New Frontier, I think Max is among those I am willing to build a rapport with.
But Badger need to be executed before I am willing to join.
These are all solid points, mate. And although these points are good, I still have some resentments against the man, despite him acting out only on orders. But somewhere there is a kinder man there.
Same thing with Arvo. He shot Clementine and brought his group to confront Clem's. That's pretty bad but if you choose wisely you could end up having him say "I wish we could have met under different circumstances. You were kind, that is not common." And when he found out that there was a baby he was desperately trying to calm the situation. I hold some resentments but I still defend the little guy.
Oh my god, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought he looked like that!!! XD
As soon as I saw that I was like "Hold up, that looks like Harry!"
I seriously doubt David will keep that motherfucker alive once he finds out that he killed Mariana.
You know, I have to admit, Max has the patience of a saint when it comes to dealing with Javier
Put yourself in his shoes for a minute: you have run into this same guy three times now. The first two times you encountered him, he's caused trouble, and everything went to shit soon after. Then he shows up a third time, at your doorstep. The fact that Max doesn't just shoot him on the spot or tell him to get lost is pretty commendable, if you ask me. I'm willing to bet most people in his position would either tell Javier to fuck off, or just shoot him.
If we were playing as Max, oh, boy—Javier would be a dead man in most save files.
He's a good guy, it's a shame he's likely going to die anyway.
