So that's how TellTale is appealing to new fans? By not making Clementine a playable character and not giving her enough attention?
I've said this before, and I will say it again. In my opinion, playing as a kid in S2 was stupid and TellTale managed to make her into a temporary playable character without it being annoying or unrealistic.Almost ALL of the major choices revolve around her, even though it's "'Javier's" story. There are very few moments when she isn't right next to you.Stop bashing this game just because you didn't get 'enough' of Clementine. This is the major problem with everyone here. The second problem being the flashbacks(but I agree with that point) and the episode length(I agree here too).
You are right about the personality thing but it doesn't seem to be that much of a problem since people like the badass ,emotionless Clem .
Mamma mia, looks like some of you guys need a game called The Walking Clementine. Get a tamagotchi or something, you can see your little baby grow up from the beginning till the end, 24/7.
Playing Clementine was one of the best things in my opinion, and now that she can handle the world by herself fine, I'd want to play her more than ever. I think people are more angered because we've had a story revolving around Clementine as a central/key point and now """season 3""" comes along and disregards this theme. ANF feels like a miniseries, not a continuation of Clem's story.

Mam, I've forced myself to be optimistic so many times after the VGA trailer, store descriptions, and game release before reading about the scrapped scenes I just don't know if I've got any left lol
I'm a new fan. I bought all seasons ~1week ago, played em trough and after third season i had to ask refund of third season because i didn't like it at all, i rather watch it from youtube
Sorry for bad english
I wonder how you played the first season then. It's exactly the same. You were taking care of her then, and now she is your partner that plays an even bigger role.It does revolve around Clementine, while being Javier's story. She still plays a huge role. Most people are angered that she is not the main character this season and the fact that Javier actually exists and 'steals' the spotlight from her, when it's pretty much clear that the attention is evenly distributed.

A lot of people seem to forget this, but prior to A New Frontier's release a large number of people didn't want to play as Clementine anymor… moree. People are saying Telltale doesn't listen to their fans, but it seems pretty clear to me that their decision to introduce Javier was based on fan feedback.
I would argue that playing as a child in season 2 made it a really great experience.
threats were bigger due to the fact that you dont have the body strength or height of an adult, which meant that you couldnt always make the best choices, also because you were weaker, you had to think more carefully about who you could trust, considering you cant really win in a fight.
I really liked the feeling of helplessness it gave off, my favorite part of season 2, is when you arrive at the cabin group, and most of them dont believe youre bitten by a dog, it doesnt matter how much you appeal or scream, they still lock you in even though youre a kid, stealing the stuff in the house, and then watching her suture her own wound, I thought it was really good, and her struggle with the 1 walker in the shed just shows how hard it was for her to kill them at the time.
Its also very evident in A New Frontier, whereas Javier just bashes the walkers in the head, Clem has to topple them over and stab them while theyre down, due to less body strength and height.
I think that playing as Clem in season 2, brought a whole new perspective on the world and the decisions, and was way more exciting than playing as your general "strong adult male who just bashes peoples heads in", Javier and his family also have absolutely no reason to still be alive 4 years into the apocalypse, considering what we have seen in the game so far, neither Kate nor Gabe have shown any sort of logical behaviour so far (running through bullet hell to get to a dead body? smart", and even though Javier can mostly take care of himself, I have severe doubts that him and his family could have survived for so long from what we have seen, considering everything goes to hell as soon as they step out of the van.
Clem is a way more skilled survivor than Javier and his family ever was, but due to her body size and strength, she cant be as forefront as Javier or Lee, which is why I think that playing as Clem is super interesting, and playing as Javier gets kind of dull

Absolutely, there is no pleasing everyone, and we all have different tastes, heck, alot of us probably took something completely different from season 2, we all get different experiences, and if there were no differing opinions, we would still be stuck in the stone age.
Which is also why I am not completely opposed to A New Frontier, I think its actually decent so far, although the best parts for me in this game so far is the flashbacks with Clem, and the times when her "facade" cracks, and she shows her true self, like she does when with AJ. But I also think that A New Frontier can be a nice way to appease everyone so to speak, have this game be about Javier, but still continue Clems growth in the background, so people who want to follow her are still here, then make a potential season 4 which focuses on Clementine and AJ.
It would be a really interesting game in my opinion, considering she is also older now, and more mature. How far are you willing to go to protect AJ? steal food? kill people? will you lose your humanity to protect him, or do you trust people to help you? I see many possibilities, and the people who did not like playing as a Child in season 2, would hopefully not be as opposed to playing her again, after they have seen how mature she has become in season 3, and how respected she is (feared? maybe?), and when a potential season 4 would roll around, she would probably be maybe 14 or 15, which i think could be a really interesting starting point for another game as her
This is a mentality that I truly respect.I agree with you. While Javier is new and you get to play a new story with a new perspective, you still have Clem that still plays a major role and you get to play her story for a bit too. It's pretty much a perfect balance for me.

The Great Fish, You're just saying exactly what I want to say.
I honestly don't know why people don't like season 2 too much, in my opinion it was as good as season 1 or at least it was close to it, maybe the characters weren't good enough as Season 1 but still they weren't as bad as some people say.
Playing as the little girl we were protecting before gave that season a unique and different experience, such as the wound suture scene, and how every time she kills a walker we have to rapidly press square or X to remove the axe from his head due to her limited strength, and a lot more scenes that made this season so much special for me.
name me a game that give you the zombie apocalypse from the perspective of a weak little girl as good as Telltale did it.
and if there is, i don't think anygame did it like how good and nailed Telltale did it.
And I want to continue as this little girl now because I'm too attached to her, but instead they gave us a story if a family that we have no idea how all of them made it this long, i think if Javi (who i think he is a good survivor) weren't there, the rest of them couldn't made it this long.
I don't think kate is too good as a survivor, Gabe and mari have zero survival abilities.
a season 2 (YOUNGER) Clem is better then the two of them now.
bottom line is that I'm having a hard time in caring about Javi's family, all what i actually care about is Clem and AJ that's all.
I still think Javi is a good character, but not on the expense of taking the spotlights from Clem in this series
I would argue that playing as a child in season 2 made it a really great experience.

Who knows, maybe they overestimated how many people nowadays is interested in these types of games, maybe they thought there was more demand… more than there was, I definitely think that these types of games are a very niche game compared to things like Call of Duty.
We can only really wait and see what they do with a potential next game before we can judge whether or not they think diverting the attention from the (until now) main storyline was a good idea
Who knows, the funny part is, Im sure about 95% of players playing ANF played Season 1 and 2, so why even try to focus so much on this super low percentage of players.
Never did got all "comfy wumfy" to the idea of weakening continuity for the sake of newcomers. Newcomers are sure to become a part of the brigade following the journey no matter how far into the story you are. I first discovered Dragon Ball Z during the Mecha Frieza bit or Namek Saga, I was fascinated with it and started following the story there even though I had barely any idea of the prior events at first. Gradually I got to learn the story and stuck with it despite not being there in the beginning. I'm sure that's the case for many fans for many series.
Telltale doesn't need to keep on turning over a new leaf in their stories. No matter how deep in the story you are, people are sure to get involved and they'll want to understand the lore from the start not part way. Let the newcomers' curiosity to the story bring them in. Because every newcomer could become a long standing follower.
They should of only done S1 of The Walking Dead, that way they would of ended it on a high and not gone on to make all this new lazy, cheaply written, plastic crap they call a story!

ANF is likely to outsell a few of those lesser titles due to its status as a returning series, but I hope you get the picture.
EDIT: I'd also like to point out that all of these, save Game of Thrones ($29.99) and TWD Michonne ($14.99) are all priced at $24.99.
Well yeah, but judging from the stats on the choices involving Clementine, as well as general word of mouth, it seems that most of the people buying A New Frontier is people who were fans of season 1 and 2
That's... Really weird. I promise you when I last checked it said that the copies were something like 4.8 million. And it's not just TWD, the number for all games changed.
Might be that the stats are fluctuating weirdly or maybe they're being messed with. I don't know. I've adjusted my post to edit what it say right now, but that's weird and maybe the source I posted isn't strictly reliable in that sense.
EDIT - Turns out, according to their twitter account, something might be happening to Steam to cause data loss or something.
"Steam Spy stopped receiving data from Steam. I'm investigating."
"We're back! Steam Spy will take some time to recover from the data loss, though: 4 to 7 days depending on the site area."
Telltale is a company. The goal of a company is to maximize profit and to do that, the customer base has to be expanded. It's possible to overshoot and alienate old customers to the point that they don't buy it, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
The first season was based around raising, protecting, and teaching Clementine survival. This season is all about Javier and his family and has little to do with Clementine's story, she doesn't even have much gameplay nor great writing for her flashbacks so far, it's not "evenly distributed". If you think everyone got a strange notion that ANF is barely about Clementine from nowhere, then I'd suggest playing the series again.

Well, that would've forever left a loose end about what happened to Clem and who the two mysterious figures were. But judging from how things are going right now, they should not have stopped after season 2 and not done A New Frontier considering they have no idea where the story is going and it feels like an affront to both past seasons and to loyal fans and consumers.

I get the impression that most of the team at Telltale isn't really on board with the whole "S3 being a gateway for new players" idea
It feels more like someone that thinks they know what's best for the game (and the company) decided to make a call that... well, isn't the best for the game (or the company).
Or to put it more bluntly; some guy near the top of the company thinks that trying to reel in new players will be an effective financial move for them... except that they could easily make just as much money by not pissing off the million other fans that have played both seasons. You know, appeal to the demographic they are already familiar with, who are making it pretty damn clear what the want and what they expect. A demographic asking for things that aren't really that hard to provide-- things that are easier than whatever the hell they're attempting to do now. What they are trying to do with S3 is a giant risk vs. reward, with a higher chance of risk than reward. They're putting the loyalty of their fanbase on the line, as well as their reputation, for what is, in all honesty, would be a trivial gain.
They could avoid so much strain on themselves if they just listened to everyone else. TWD fanbase is practically shouting in their ear with a megaphone. They're being handed solutions to S2's problems on a silver frickin' platter. And for some unfathomable reason, someone with power in the company has decided to ignore it.
Especially considering, the old games are still perfectly playable, the resolution goes up to 1080p which is honestly the biggest factor in playability with monitors nowadays, but there is also a timeframe, where most games coming out after that point looks just fine, and while they may not have all the flash of the new ones, theyre perfectly acceptable.
I have always felt that most games after Half Life 2 looks just fine to play, and season 1 and 2s artstyle makes it more timeless than more realistic games.
Theyre also sold on steam, which makes them very easy to get, there is no excuse to not play the old games, there is no reason to weaken the story just to get new people aboard, considering it is super easy to go play the old games, which are superb games anyways, and if people are interested in The Walking Dead, why not start from the start?

They could have just continued the story from season 2, instead of doing all this new stuff, where they literally dont have any clue where theyre going.
They had alot of perfectly good plot points they could follow up on from season 2, such as Clem protecting AJ, Clem being alone (or with Kenny or Jane), they could have just picked it up half a year after season 2 ended or something, used the first episode to converge all the endings, so you get a more satisfying conclusion as to why Clem is not with Kenny or Jane anymore, or why she is not in Wellington.
Honestly, a story based around Clem, protecting AJ and having the themes be "How far are you willing to go to protect him? will you steal supplies? kill people? torture people? or will you trust them?" I already felt like they were kind of going that way with season 2, where I got gradually less and less trusting, and started picking choices I never would have done in season 1, because as Clem I realized, the world is bad, you cant always do the right thing, I think that is a very interesting subject in the context of the world, but how far are you willing to go, before doing the wrong thing becomes too much?
Well, that would've forever left a loose end about what happened to Clem and who the two mysterious figures were. The people running the company probably don't look at the critisms of the game from the fans and I get the impression that they only listen to the yes men/women they employ.
I also get the feeling that S1 was worked by people freely who were given more time and who enjoyed it, whereas now it feels like a company making cuts and going for cheap options.

Exactly the point I'm trying to make. The way I'm looking at it, the people actually working on the games aren't the problem. It's the people running the company and calling the shots. The people with the power and pull over the dev teams. They probably don't realize that they're putting more of a damper on their employees than they think. Forcing someone to work fast is a sure-fire way to sap a person's creativity, and more importantly, a sure-fire way to make them start cutting corners and/or half-assing their own work. You gotta give people the time and space to really stretch their wings, to give it all they got.
Do you force construction workers to finish a building as quick as possible? No, not unless you wanna compromise all kinds of safety factors in the process, and risk the building coming out worse than it could have if you just gave it that extra time it needed.

Point being, Clem should be the primary focus, not being pushed aside for Javier's family in which almost no one cares about, the decisions for Clem clearly show we want to actually play as her/will do anything for her, we simply don't care about Javier's family enough to do major decisions in their favor. Oh, and Kenny has always been a non playable character but his importance is there he's done countless things for groups and he was the last friend of Lee's. Not replying furthermore until I get on my desktop, mobile is awful.

A lot of their talent left... to work somewhere else...
still can't believe it took 8 writers for 1 episode.
You are right about the personality thing but it doesn't seem to be that much of a problem since people like the badass ,emotionless Clem .
I'd buy that tamagotchi. It'd be so cute.

I think i can see Telltale's reputation among loyal fans exploding in the background
I still think Javi is a good character, but not on the expense of taking the spotlights from Clem in this series
where can I find this?
Well, it's still on Steam's "Popular new releases".
I always thought people are more likely to buy a game if it has sequels, because maybe it was good enough?
How did you get almost 5 million for TWD: S1? It shows up as 2,204,250 for me.
Here you go - this is the thread which includes a transcript of the important parts (about Season 3.)

Okay let me rephrase:
Season 2's first two episodes were a masterpiece compared to Season 3's first two episodes.
Economics.
So The Walking Dead should be The Walking Rick
according to your logic
don't kill me i'm an animal in need of help
Telltale is turning into Ubisoft or EA. And I already made a perfect nickname for what they are right now.
TellBeSoft
I'd suggest reading my comment again because I said that she still plays a huge role even though it's Javier's story and that most choices revolve around her,so the attention is evenly distributed. It's not like you are playing as Javier and Clem only appears as a flashback. She is still a very important character, like Kenny was in the second season, yet I see no one complaining that the season had little to do with Kenny .
The people running the company probably don't look at the critisms of the game from the fans and I get the impression that they only listen to the yes men/women they employ.
I also get the feeling that S1 was worked by people freely who were given more time and who enjoyed it, whereas now it feels like a company making cuts and going for cheap options.
Probably a case of "We want more with less".
True, I don't really get the appeal to newcomers either. I thought that gamers who are after story driven games already know about it.
Very well put Deltino.
I myself know what it's like to work for a company who act like that and let me tell you it is very uninspiring and it drains you.
It really is a sad time for this series right now and our only hope is that TT pull themselves together, go back to their roots and somehow fix it.
