My opinion on Javier...

I think Javier is a good protagonist that can maybe work really well in this story and I think he is one of the bright spots of S3 so far.

The problem is that a good amount of his character depth so far is being degenerated to a predictable, sappy, and generic love triangle romance with Kate and David.

One aspect that I think Telltale should really be focusing on is the whole idea they're hinting at that Javier might have been a bit of a selfish airhead that only cared about himself and his fame as a baseball player that was never there for his family until whenever he himself was in trouble and making a lot of mistakes given that in the Ep.2 flashback he's trying to get back on his feet.

His whole arc could be about him learning to become more responsible and be the selfless person who looks out for his family that he never was before the apocalypse and maybe that's what they're building towards in the last three episodes but so far it seems unlikely.

I don't really have a problem with romance in an apocalypse story but there's just something about Javier and Kate that feels bland and maybe that's because it's building up to the typical "scared wife doesn't like jerky husband as much as she likes jerky husbands puppy dog brother/friend."

I just want Javier to be involved in a better written story. Tripp deserves a better story as well.

  • Actually, in the flashback scenes, however brief it was, I played Javier more selfish and immature. In present days, I play him as far more selfless, responsible and mature about his responsbilties.

    I enjoy playing as Javier because I play him as a character with flaws. He is a good person, but he is not perfect which just makes him interesting to me.

  • Well obviously he was more selfish back then. He let his fame go to his head...abandoned his family...did not come when his father was ill.

    Now Javier is more a family man...doing what he needs to to keep them safe.

    His relationship with Kate...I will say this...I like them together...but by present time...they should have already been an item. And maybe they are but just hide it from the kids(not too well as Mariana was not shocked by the kiss). But he and Kate have been in the apocalypse together...longer than David and Kate knew each other..I am willing to bet. So I ship them hard...until it hits an iceberg.

    A protagonist for a spin off

    Not worthy of taking Clem's place for Season 3

    Telltale hates money

  • I think the Kate and her obsession with Javier though she is married to his brother will lead to a very dark end somewhere.

  • Is it just me, or am I the only one that wants Tripp to make it out of this Season?

    I love his character, he is funny, nice, and strong.

    I hope him and Javier hit it off, be like Lee and Kenny all over again haha... But then Tripp will come back and lose everything and Clementine will have to shoot him in Season 4...

    RIP Tripp, I just want him to make it ;-;

  • I like him and after awhile it felt natural playing as him and he seems to be a good character. With that said i can't stand this horrible "love" whatever hell thing they got going between Javier,Kate,and David. This is one of the last thing this game needs to be spending time on and developing. I also don't like a good portion of the characters Javier is associated with such as Gabe,Kate,David.

  • 1: Assuming there's a 4th installment

    2: Get ready for a quicktime fight over Eleanor being bit

    3: Hhahahahaahahahaahahah! none but clementine makes it out of the walking dead alive so far.

  • Javier is a far stronger protagonist than Clem. His character is one of the postives of the season so far imo

  • Sadly ;-;

  • I don't mind Javier, its definitely easier get attached to a character when you're the driving force behind their decisions. I couldn't see them making this a story about him learning to be there for his family and be selfless, though, because that should have happened 4 years ago considering when the game takes place. At the same time, I feel like he's a pretty typical character that doesn't have many stand out characteristics. Athletic young male in his prime surviving in the apocalypse feels like something I'd get out of any action game, especially compared to the previous protagonists.

    Lee was a middle aged school teacher who was disowned by his family after killing a man his wife cheated on him with. Clem was a young girl we raised in the first season and played as in the second, both were clearly out of their element in the new world. This guy is apparently Pete Rose 2.0 who became his brothers wife's white knight after knowing her for a few days/weeks. And we jump 4 years into the apocalypse with someone who started the whole thing already more capable than the previous two protagonists. Of the new characters, none of the ones who have any attachment to Javier are particularly interesting. Free spirited wife of a disciplined ex military man with anger issues, nephew with mommy issues and a void in his heart, sweet and lovable niece who's too good for this cruel world. Feels like I've seen most of this before, I hope they move past it pretty quick instead of dragging the soap opera out.
