Quality Voice Acting

There are just some moments where I love the voice acting: when how they say words on a page into a new feeling.

Some examples are:
Tripp's first line after Eli was shot. Just the way he stopped mid-sentence and made that 'scruff' sound in his mouth really sold it to me.

Luke's line when he said "Everything is SHIT". I loved the way he paced the first lines and proclaimed the last words in strong syllables.

  • I loved Tripp's reaction if you killed Conrad. Superb voice acting.

I have a small list compiled of lines in which I liked the way they were said.

Tripp: "God effing DAMN it Francine! One of these days, those gates are gonna close, and your ass will be on the other side!"

    Clementine: "You could...I dunno...make friends?"

Javier: "Second you start getting boners, the whole world gets dark..."

Max: "WE DOWN'T OWE YEWWWW SHIT!" "It's not like ah don't have a hart, okaay?! BUT YER PEOPLE STARTED THIS WHOLE FUCKIN' THANG IN THE FIRST PLACE!" (Honestly died laughing there)

Jesus: "Muh frands call meh Jeezis"

  • The directing for Voice Over in Telltale Games are always pretty good. Tales from the Borderlands has, by far, the best Voice Over direction.

  • Yeah that coulda been redone....but I for the most part love the VA and writing...we are playing a zombie apocalypse story game...not a Steinbeck novel.

  • I greatly enjoy the voice acting of the actors. Of course sometimes it is not perfect, but usually it is due to the lines that the voice actors have to read and say.

  • I agree with Max lines. The way they were dragged out with that accent really made me chuckle.

I also remember him just saying "Holy shit." after another member got smacked. If it were someone inexperienced, they would have lengthened it and tried to add too much surprise and anger. But he just said it quickly in less than a second and that felt realistic to me.

  • Agreed. He's got a great voice and I can't wait to hear more from him.

Fingers crossed for more of him yelling swear words. :D

Max's voice actor is pretty damn good and versatile. He also played the New Frontier truck driver. I didn't even know it was him until I read about it.

  • One of the good things about this Season. The voice acting is top notch.

Thanks for making the first positive thread in weeks. All this negativity is beyond ridiculous. I thought the forums were bad in the wolf among us/Season 2 days, but this takes the fucking cake.

  • I actually liked Season 3's premiere overall, but I've hardly mentioned that just because I don't want people here to rip me a new asshole for it.

  • Well Telltale should shape up, they deserve all of this criticism honestly, the only part I disagree with is banter and random insults.

  • The criticism is fine and fair. I won't deny that there was plenty of shit wrong with it.

But that doesn't excuse that some folks are being whiny pissbabies about it.

If someone liked the premiere, why deny them that enjoyment?

Rightful critique is fine, "RRRRRR YOU'RE STUPID FOR LIKING THIS" isn't.

  • Hiya! Sorry for not being as active this past month or so, but I needed a break from the forums. Couldn't handle all the constant negativity here. I was hoping the waiting thread would have managed to stay active, but it seems people got a hold of the one place meant for people who were at least a tiny bit excited for the next episode. but RIP that I guess.

  • Okay not the banter really, those are funny most of the time.

  • No need to be sorry, my friend. I can understand why you need to get away from the negativity. Sometimes a break is what is needed.

I won't let the negativity stop me from getting excited to play the next episode. :)

  • Couple of times, yeah.

I have this friend in real life that's incredibly negative. He felt that way about Season 3 long before it even came out, and while some of 3's mistakes have validated it, he's still being a HUGE prick about it.

This fucking guy is neurologically incapable of letting people enjoy shit. His brain will simply not allow it. And there's a few here like that as well.

  • I will have to disagree on the writing...I think it is the shortness that hurts it.

  • I would like to know: what are some examples of 'good' and 'bad' writing?

  • I've been here Since S1 Ep 2, people whinned back in Season 1 (can't remember exactly why it was a long time ago, most said that they should release all the episodes at once and that the waiting kills their interest in the game or others said that choices don't really matter), when Season 2 came out it was a shit show as well (people hated how Clem was treated like an adult, how short the episodes were, how the adults are really stupid etc etc), Season 3 came out and it became worse.
For me this forum was never really positive on things, the only times when that happened was during Seasons, people here just like to nit pick the living hell out of something and if you state your opinion and say you actually enjoyed some parts of the game someone will immediately jump on to argue and say why you shouldn't enjoy said things (I actually said in a thread that I liked most of Javi's family and some guy jumped to say something among the lines of "Oh dude how can you like them, they are so poorly written and unrealistic, Gabe is such a bitch etc..) and it's really depressing, if you played the game and enjoyed it please leave this forum, you'll have a bad time.
Hell some guy was saying that he hates how Clem is now swearing...dude, what do you expect ? Do you want her to draw rainbows and unicorns ?
These forums were always on the negative side of things, why are we surprised that it is negative towards S3 ?

  • The first time I played ANF I thought to myself: "Damn they got realistic voices even for the minor characters, everyone sounds so cool" (Truck Driver / Lonnie / Francine) I really liked how they sounded, I don't know maybe it's just me

I honestly think the drawn out delivery of Max's lines really adds to his character. He has a unique manner of speaking that makes him stand out from many of the other characters we've seen so far.

  • It's absolutely ridiculous when people try to force you into disliking the game.

If you like it, you like it. If you dislike it, you dislike it. No reason to make one or the other like/dislike the game.

Debating is fine. Disagreements are fine. Insulting someone over their opinion is not.

Threads like this brighten up the darkness we call a forum. I enjoyed episode 1 and 2. It may have been short but that doesnt mean its utter trash.

  • Good: Having Clementine sort of be the "bad" guy or associated with them. Never seen that before and it's interesting because we all want to know what's going on with her, why she did it, what she did with them, how they turned bad, where is AJ, etc. And we want to know this whether or not we played S1&2.

Bad: Making Clementine the hardass trigger finger who steals no matter our choices. Killing Mari after hardly any character development. Having Elle kidnapped after hardly any character development or really any good moments with her. Half the time I forget she exists.

  • Javier's voice when he's burying Mari.

  • The voice acting has been the best thing about A New Frontier for me, the performances feel realistic and human, great voice direction. I love Telltale's voice actors, Melissa Hutchison being my favorite, but Javier's voice actor does a great job too. Even characters like Max have great voices.

  • That whole thing was so true, it made a pit in my stomach from the accuracy.

I'll still enjoy the game and remain on the forums regardless, since I like nearly everyone here though.

  • Clementine when she thanks Javi if you lied for her, if you did anyways. Sounded sincere from what I could remember.

Yeah like I was so happy and hyped playing ANF/watching Youtubers play and then I came to the forums and saw everyone's nitpicking and my happiness levels just lowered and lowered. Don't get me wrong, I still like the game I just don't feel so much excitement anymore unfortunately...
