Do you miss Sean Vanaman and Jake Rodkin?

I just can't help but wonder what The Walking Dead would have been like if they were still working for Telltale.

Do you miss them?

  • More than anything. The ANF writers could learn a thing or two from them.

  • Not really...Firewatch was sorta meh...so it strikes me more and more that the collaboration in S1 was better and they maybe had less interference from the top.

  • Honestly, so far yea. This has felt like an action show more than another installment of TWDG. If they do a cold open with a long shot, I'm probably going to turn my system off and go make breakfast.

  • Yes. The series declined in quality immediately after their departure. Other factors may have contributed, but I cannot help but think the loss of Vanaman and Rodkin played a significant role.

    After Firewatch...

    no... not really.

Would be nice what were Sean's plans for Clementine though...

I miss everything good about Telltale's TWD. So yes, I miss them. A lot.

  • Yeah, i miss Sean but it's better for him to do his own thing with Campo Santo instead of working for Telltale forever.

  • Sure, Sean was a fantastic writer and Jake was a great director and designer. Without them, I don't think Season 1 would have been as great as it was. However, the series goes on without them, and while S3 has its issues, the series is still great. They've moved on, its time we start to do so as well.

  • Yup. Especially Sean Vanaman. He was a pretty fucking great writer. He's the sole purpose I got really hyped for Firewatch.

    Do I miss them? Yeah.

Do I want them to come back? Eh... not really. They made S1, they ended it the way they wanted to, and then they moved on to do what they wanted to do. If they don't want to slave away on TWD, then that's the way it is.

I'd rather they not get forced to work on something just because people think everything would be better if they were back at the helm. Creativity works best when the creator themselves wants to work on something, not because other people want them to work on it.

I mean, if they stuck around until current day, and worked on all the seasons, who's to say it really would have been better? Who's to say the passion they had when writing/designing S1 would still be there after having to work on this series for years upon years?

  • I was watching some IGN Spoilercast with Sean V and Jake R as guests where they were promoting Firewatch, and they basically said what Deltino said - they wanted to do something original.

They start talking about this around 6 or 7 minutes in.

I still love Jake's whole story-- going from a forum mod to a creative director. It's like that story with the dude that traded a paperclip all the way up to a house.

Not really. They're great and all, but they've moved on. The series is still fantastic.

  • Firewatch is the best game ever created.

  • Firewatch was amazing, never understood all the hate. Had all balanced together, like in a good game, instead all jumbled up, rushed and flat.
