I think Kenny is one of the best characters in the game...I've always been on the fence about him , no love or hate. He's the most grey npc in the game. Your choices really matter with him compared to most other characters. He has some pretty questionable morals but also has a huge heart for the people he loves. You can see him as an asset or liability depending on how you play the game. I think it's great that he's such a divisive character, reading the well thought out debates on this forum has been extremely interesting to me.
Threads like this though are so lame...there is no substance on what op said. He's such a multi dimensional guy, how can you be so baffled that some people despise him? He's done some horrible things. It goes the same the other way around with people calling out Kenny fans. It's great to see debates and different perspective, but the way it's introduced in this thread is not constructive and honestly lacks respect for the opinion of others. It's not meant to bring discussion it's a slam Kenny haters thread. People hurling insults instead of substance need to chill.
huh? most people, from what i've seen, really like him; i've always felt it was only a minority who didn't. (that, or just not as vocal i guess?)
anyways, like emmalilly said, he's meant to be a conflicting character. he does things that don't align with everyone's morals, so obviously there's going to be people who don't like him. is it really that shocking?
Because Kenny is abusive to everyone, with each moment he snaps I try to make him stop but he hurts Clem in the process and I honestly wanted him dead.
I'm glad he could die in S2, and got this shit death in S3, which is fitting for a shit character.
I don't hate him, and i dont like him too, and i don't blame ppl who hate him or liked him, and no one can blame them. Cus he deserved the hate and he deserved the like too
Every character has potential with a good enough writing. I agree that the dog bite = zombie bite was extremely dumb and poorly written but concerning the cabin group itself, I do think they were an interesting bunch who, with enough development, could have been good characters. Instead they just got killed without enough significant screentime beforehand for me to care, I do believe it's a shame. Kenny, on the other hand, had the perfect ending in S1: an heroic death for the indirect killer of his family or to sacrifice himself for a woman he barely knows (probably because he suspected she was pregnant). This worked perfectly for both playthrough, the Kenny fans got to see him as a hero and the others felt he was redeeming himself a little.
Then S2 comes in, throws it out of the window "I got lucky" style and proceeds to give the much needed Cabin group screentime to Kenny, a characters with an already well established personality and fanbase.
Now, I know you probably won't agree as you have your opinion and I have mine, which is totally fine, but please let's stay civil. There is no need for an argument knowing both of us won't change the way they think, as is their right.
The cabin group had ZERO potential. They made a bad impression right out the gate by throwing a little girl into a cold, unprotected shack w… morehere she was almost eaten alive by another zombie, all because their resident physician was too much of an assclown to tell the difference between a dog bite and a human bite. Kenny couldn't return fast enough.
I don't hate Kenny but I do not feel the need to venerate him and consider him a paragon of goodness.
He is a very sensitive character, even before the outbreak. Didn't he mention at some point that they had a dog and he had to kill it and he cried even though Duck loved the dog more than he did?
He kinda reminds me of mr. Edwards from Little House in the Prairie.
Rough guy, has no manners, his role is to help a group of people to survive in the wild, has anger management issues, underneath the hard exterior there is a soft heart, etc etc.
Losing his wife, his son and then Sarita definitely affected him but he still managed to be some sort of leader to the group and he did help Rebecca to give birth and he genuinely cares for Clem and AJ.
He definitely not a villain, not someone who would abuse his power or influence in order to torment others and I do feel sorry for him.
But I still do not like his character as much as I like other characters, I just find characters like Kenny, good men who cannot control their anger, to be very annoying.
To be fair I was under the impression that many people love Kenny.
People have the right to have their constructed opinions. Both side of this argument have a logical reasonning as to why they think the way they do, and to be honest both are easy to understand, disagreeing with one is normal but outright attacking a group for their well thought-out opinion is rude. If anything, the only obnoxious and abrasive person I see would be you. Voicing your opinion civilly isn't that hard and doesn't cost anything, spreading hate however only contributes to more of it.
There aren't actually a lot of people who hate Kenny's character. It's just a few fans who decided they could bully Telltale into doing what… more they wanted to see happen by being as loud, abrasive, and obnoxious about their opinions on this forum as possible.
The fact they're still shrieking and screeching about Kenny's presence in S2 after all this time only proves they're more mentally unhinged than Kenny ever was.
In my play through, he risked his life at the end trying to save Ben, who'd been responsible for pretty much every bad thing. And I was sure Kenny was dead, so I was quite happy to see him in season 2.
I agree though that they made Kenny a bit OTT in season 2. And I don't like that Clementine had the option to kill him after he killed Jane. Seemed very out of character for her
Because even though he's done a lot of good things for his friends and family, like risking his life so Clem and AJ could stay at Wellington… more and killing Jane (my opinion), he's done some bad too, like refusing to at least try to save Shawn and racially slandering a couple Russians.
I'm far from becoming a hater, but I can understand why people would hate him.
After he pretty much forced the walkie talkie on her in front of Troy if she didn't want it. I appreciate that he took responsibility for that, though.
I don't hate Kenny but I do not feel the need to venerate him and consider him a paragon of goodness.

Accused people of "betrayal" and "not having his back" if you didn't side with him ONCE. If you side with him all the time but the one time you don't he freaks
Murdered Larry (he was alive; you don't instantly die during a heart attack and I should know cuz people can be awake when having a heart attack)
Wanted to leave Ben for dead (no he didn't deserve it either cuz he was a stupid kid and I honestly might've done the same thing in his position)
Wanted to murder/did murder Jane (he went crazy, no other word for it)
I was more annoyed that he didn't stop to think that Clementine could have been caught holding the walkie-talkie without Kenny or anybody on her side to take responsibility for the theft. Considering how violent Troy was when he caught her alone in a room Luke was hiding in from before, I'd imagine his reaction would have been worse if the radio fell out of Clementine's pockets right there and then.
I get that Kenny owed up to the theft in the end, but he still forced her in a position when she could have been in grave danger had she been found out in the first place.

I think it's mainly because he overpowered a lot of Season 2.
He came in and took over so to speak, and a lot of people felt that he shouldn't of returned because he did his part in season 1, and then when he took over, the season 2 characters suffered from it because the story shifted to Kenny and Clementine. I never had a problem with it but seeing how they ruined him in season 3, i would've just been happy with how he was in season 1. At least he would've went out like a hero rather then a lame way just to kill him off as quickly as they could.

Maybe so, but Clementine and the others would've been in a lot more danger if they hadn't tried making attempts to escape. An opportunity had presented itself with the radio and it would've been just foolish to let it slip. They had to escape and at the time the radio was their best bet to do it . Sure, it was risky, but someone had to do it and Clementine was the least suspicious, considering, Kenny, himself, had already gotten into shit with Troy when doing his own shift.

Trying to escape from the compound where the group were being held hostage by Carver is fine.
Having an eleven-year-old go out of her way to steal a radio from their enemy, and then forcing her to hold onto incriminating evidence on her whether she wants to or not, is not fine.
The radio theft being risky was exactly why the plan has failed to begin. Shortly after the theft, Carver had noticed that a radio went missing, Clementine was discovered in a place she was already told not to linger around in by Troy, and Luke's was found breaking and entering trying to rescue his friends.
All of these activities aroused too much suspicion and had made quite clear that the radio theft plan was just not going to work. Having Clementine participate isn't going to make her a better candidate to avoid arousing suspicion, considering that she was already attracting suspicion by entering a restricted area without permission earlier ago, and is already under watch by Carver due to his interests.

Well, I myself am a huge fan of Kenny (He's actually one of my favorite characters in anything TWD related) but there are plenty of valid reasons for people to dislike him. He's hot-blooded and always demanding immediate action, even in situations that call for a more cautious and thoughtful approach (Like the hostage situation at the lodge where he got Walter killed or, depending on your viewpoint, the Larry situation). He has a volatile temper that gets worse as the series progresses and so much shit happens to him, and his inability to really cope with those things leads him to lash out at others even if they're trying to help him. He does questionable/bad things. The fact that your choices affect his behavior toward you (At least in Season 1) causes him to act differently to different players.
I personally love Kenny, and he is my third favorite character behind Lee and Clementine. There's a list of things that people may hate Kenny for.
Abused Arvo (Arvo didn't deserve to be abused, but I can see why Kenny would attack him)
Killed Larry with the salt lick (I think this is the right move. Larry could have easily turned into a walker, and he possibly would have killed everyone in
the meat locker)
Being paranoid (But come on!! He was MOSTLY right about everything)
Lack of sympathy towards Lilly (He truly didn't give a shit about Lilly, she has a good reason to be mad at him)
Refuses to help Lee look for Clementine (But that's only if you're a dick to him and didn't agree with him, Kenny has the right to be an asshole to you. But if you agree with him on most things, he considers Lee and Clementine as family.)
This is the biggest one
Sometimes psychotic( He does some pretty psychotic shit like maiming Carver's face. He would leave Lee in a drug store just because he didn't murder Lilly's father with him. He also wants Lee to drop Ben, but after Ben stands up to himself Kenny actually feels bad for the kid.)
Kenny is possibly the most controversial character in video game history, and that's probably why I like him so much.
Yeah, I dunno what was up with that Carlos thing that Luke alluded to. Carver implied the cabin group was shady as well, but the's the villain so he'll lie as much as he wants.
Were they implying Carlos murdered someone to escape? Because later in episode 2 Carver says Alvin did just that, but he never said anything about Carlos being violent.
Kenny never had the potential to be a better man than Lee. But having said that....Kenny's arc in S1 should have been the end of his story.… more..a man who does questionable things to protect his family still looses them...makes peace with the idiot who got them killed...goes out to try and save Ben...dies like a boss. Kenny at times was a bit of a coward...advocated murder...advocated letting a woman suffer through being torn apart by walkers just for a distraction. But in the end...he found his peace and died like a man. That was a great story arc....enough said. But then season2 comes...bring him in...ruins the Cabin group's chances of getting development...does horrific things...but banks on the feels from s1 to cover up the fact that he should have been Carlos as they were alluding to Carlos having issues of rage and violence.
Murdered Larry (he was alive; you don't instantly die during a heart attack and I should know cuz people can be awake when having a heart attack)
Wrong wrong wrong!!! People can most certainly die immediately from a heart attack. Nurse or doctor are you? Sorry but the fact of that scene is, Larry was either dead or still alive and it is something we will never know for certain because Telltale deliberately left it ambiguous to make our own opinions
Dude..... I have a whole list
* Abusive
* Blamed everyone but himself

Because telltale made a like or hate Kenny character for the fans. It gave the players who had a bad relationship with him the chance to say that to him
Comments
"SARITA MEET DA FREAKA DA WEEKA!
SHAKE IT LIKE A SEIZURE"
Also didn't he refer to Arvo as, "A fu*king Ruski"? Which I'm not sure is a racist or just a demeaning term used for Russian POWs during WWII.
And who prevented Clementine from getting punished by Carver?

Two words:
Salt Lick
Also Kenny have some fucking empathy and think about others for once

Yes.

True.
I feel like a lot of fans just migrated somewhere else on the internet and we are left with bad apples.

Me neither.
Kenny is unstable and a liability. Never was a big fan of him.

TITO DICK DICK MAN BABY!!!
Maybe so, but Clementine and the others would've been in a lot more danger if they hadn't tried making attempts to escape.
