I dislike him. He's whiney, annoying, not very interesting, and reminds me too much of how I was at 13 years old.
I think Gabe's great. Definitely one of my favorites in ANF.
Great at what
I think he great to call for help:
"Javi,help!"
Telling himself that he's "a man now".
Great at being great.
He doesnt leave a lot for me to be interested in. If they kill him off, i won't care.
I want to give the fucker a chance but it's telltale ^~^
What I love about Gabe is he's very immersion breaking. When I'm playing a choice-driven story-heavy game, I make sure there's always one thing that resides in the narrative to constantly remind me I'm playing a game written almost exclusively by people that just don't give a single fuck anymore.
He's a nonsensical child character in the classic literature way, Odysseus traversing hell would have had my attention much more had it not been for a straddling loser that whined and moaned all the time and the agony of it's storytelling would've had far less impact making me feel much more accepting and thus further removed from what I was reading.
Gabe is amazing, and I'm sure he'll make a great little boyfriend for Clem, cause fuck it.
So two of them should make a couple because they are only teenagers in the game? Or what exactly is a reason of that ship? Definitely not similar personalities.
Clem: Not dying is so cool! Surviving is my favourite thing to do!
Gabe: OMG mine too!
Clem: OMG!
Gabe: Let's be together!
Clem: Yay!
Well, I don't dislike Gabe, but I don't like him so much, either. I would say that I don't have a problem with him and that his behaviour is Totally normal.
I don't like him, it's just whiny annoying kid character, and it ties into one of season 3's many problems.
We as players don't feel any attachment to Gabe but Javi does. Let's not forget Lee was going to be related to Clem but they changed it because a pre established relationship didn't work well for bonding. So while Javi sees him as his nephew we see him as some annoying kid.
Eh, I don't loathe him but I don't love him either.
I mean, he's not someone I feel like disemboweling like Jane or Luke, but not someone I feel like protecting till the day I die like Lee, Clementine (season 1), or Kenny (season 1).
He's just very okay.
Aw, a Kennsplainer and Janiac Justification!
Same.
If MiniJaneClementine talked like that, a few more people would be accepting of her for at least having some humor about her.
It was mostly a joke. I've tried explaining why I like Gabe before and others just threw it back in my face and proceeded to explain to me why I'm wrong and I really don't feel like going through that crap again.
I like him. Take your pick cause I'm on a time table:
He's called Gabe: what an unfortunate name he has when you flip one letter upside down.
From what I've seen, it's the playful shipping of him and Clementine by the others, as well as constant unfavorable comparisons to Ben(when he's really more like Nick and Sarah) and Mariana. Just a joke on Javier, Tripp, and Conrad's part that people took too seriously. People are still ragging on Lilly because of Carley and Lee.
Personally, I don't mind him at all and am curious to see what they do with him. I think part of it is, aside from Duck and Gil(and by technicality, Ben, Travis, Russell, and Arvo), we had a noticeable shortage of boy characters in the games, so to see one in a major role is very welcomed by me. I definitely helps that, despite being called Ben 3.0 by many, he actually does have a perfectly motivation after losing his sister and an understandable drive to be ready to help Javier when he needs it and so far has yet to make any notable screw-ups even though drawing on Conrad in his grief had me a little nervous for a second.
Seriously, the main reason people don't like him is because he isn't a hyper obedient, competent kid that does everything right. People don't seem to like kids/teenagers that actually act like kids/teenagers. It's that kinda mindset that is slowly pushing the game series towards ruin.
"These character's aren't fleshed out/realistic!" Gets mad at characters like Nick, Sarah, and Gabe. At least Becca was something of a brat/bitch.
Reliable can be as simple as "Can be counted on to be there and/or help when truly needed." Him wanting to be more active, saving Kate, readily defending Javier and Clementine, and being prepared to fight and/or defend when trouble arises shows that he's striving to be exactly that and making progress. He hides with Kate when Max captures Javier, gets her out of the line of fire when she gets shot, wants to help with Kate's bullet wound, is seen taking out his anger on a walker he may have killed himself, states his intention to not just stand around anymore whether Javier wants him too or not, draws on Conrad when he gets aggressive towards Javier in his grief, knows the meaning of warning shots if you don't talk him down, helps Clementine hold the subway door while Javier finds something to block it, urges Javier to shoot Conrad when taken hostage, and determinately calls him out for selling out Clementine. He's still ready to do what has to be done when there is a threat. Isn't that basically why so many people harp on certain other characters: because they weren't always ready and/or didn't have a lot of moments to take care of things? Because they weren't "badass" enough or whatever you wanna call it?
Personally and objectively, if I had to pick between saving him and Clementine, I guess he'd would be the logical choice depending on the circumstances. We'll see how the Season plays out eventually, but I think he'd be the one regardless. Clementine can more than take care of herself after all.
As for my thoughts on him getting with Clementine, I don't mind as long as they develop them both as individuals and friends first and THEN consider actually putting them together if that's what you really want to do. Case in point:
Behold! Hints of an actual characterizing conversation that we should've witnessed. Seriously, you just pointed out an interesting contrast between Clementine and Gabe/Sarah's characters as far as we've been told and they don't really spend time on it. He was never planning on shooting Conrad: if you don't say anything or maybe even encourage him to do it, he simply fires a warning shot. Clementine's point was that he showed was willing to do what he had to to protect his uncle, even if it means shooting someone despite likely never doing so before. Remember that she was very iffy about using a gun herself.
Three things from my Episode 3 wishlist:
Justification/Rerailment of Clementine's characterization.
Some vindication for Gabe's arc.
The downlow on Clementine's history with the New Frontier and AJ's whereabouts.
I dont mind him, i dont like him but I dont hate him. As long as he keeps his grubby mits off Clem of course.
As long he stays away from Clem, there isn't any problems.
I find the negative reactions towards him strange considering that a lot of people said they shot Conrad because he held Gabe as hostage by gunpoint. Either the people on here are the one's who sided with Conrad, or they're nitpicking at everything.
The latter.
Gabe draws his gun in nonlethal defense of Javier=Punk.
Conrad draws his gun in aggressive offense of Clementine=Asshole.
Clementine draws her gun in lethal anger at a weapons dealer=Badass.
He is pretty annoying but he has alot of potential. If TT handle him right (which will be an achievement on itself) he can grow alot as a character.
He's a generic representation of the modern teenager angst. I have no reason to care about this jackass, his freespirited mother trapped in a loveless marriage with a scarred husband who's suffered in the military, or his Pedro Rosa uncle who's the prodigal son returned attempting to redeem himself on his past transgressions. This whole season sucks except for Clem.
There's no where near enough people here to judge the decisions by, unless this season is doing a lot worse than anyone thought. People shot Conrad because of Clementine if the ingame percentages are to be judged.
I don't like Gabe, but since we're playing as Javier and Gabe is his nephew, Javier would want to protect him.
Even though I shot him because he wanted to use Clem as a bargaining chip, and those were the only available options.
I do not like Gabriel and he is a twin of Ben, in terms of personality.
So far I do not like Gabe. When first introduced I noticed it was his VA doing a terrible child impression of his younger self. Which I couldn't help but mock. Then I found his personality to be that of whiney teenager who hasn't experienced a zombie apacolypse in 4 years. He also doesn't have a very decent looking character model. Seems generic looking and can't really stand out as much as Telltale wanted me to see him, especially compared to the others. The "want to be a man" character arc seems fucking lame compared to pretty much anything they could do with this character in a freakin zombie apocalypse. His actions are dumb, like stabbing a zombie outside the gates of Prescott like a wierdo and all whiney about staying in the van that's kept you safe rather than staying in a clearly lived in safehouse. The shipping is incredibly cringey both in the game and community. I suppose if they have him stop complaining and say some smart/wise dialogue and make him stand out in a less negative way, telltale could salvage this guy.
It feels as if he's been surviving the apocalypse 4 weeks and not 4 years (I kinda forgot). But he is not the only one so yeah.
Gabe is like a mix of Ben and Becca.
More like a younger Nick and a much nicer Becca.
I dont exactly hate gabe, hes got potential but lets face it the character has been done several times in the game already. I find a character like gabe at this point in the disaster also pretty ridiculous
I don't like the character but I like what him being there adds to Javi's character.
I found him kind of annoying, my brother hated him though, he's absolutely disgusted by the potential romance with him and Clementine.
me is didn't like gabe
He is a horrible character his animations are ugly it's 4 years into the apocalypse and he still doesn't know shit honestly the characters in this season are like characters from an else world walking dead story
That was amazing totally agree.
I don't like him... but I've already accepted his flaws and taken on the role of mentoring him. I dont enjoy him necessarily, but I'm not giving up on him.
Is this what it felt like to be Team Ben in season 1?
He's a whiney little bitch. Hopefully he grows out of the "my life is so hard and no one understands me" phase
Thumbs up. i think your comment sums it up perfectly.
Thing is that with the Clementine one, people said she had no idea that the gun actually had bullets in it yet she clearly aimed it at the guys head with no care in the world, Gabe on the other hand even if he fires the gun, he fires it at the ground to warn Conrad. It goes to show that if you're as popular as Clementine is, you can do anything and get away with it.
