  • Telltale haven't learned. They will always do what they want and not what the fans want out of this game.

Season2!Kenny and Jane would like to have word with you on that. Though, that could be an example of the other way or even both.

I just can't believe how shit things have become in the last 4-5 years

Yeah, I feel for you, man. I can just sit here observing like a sophmore, throwing around ideas, and voicing my disappointment in something I've been waiting on for two years but you just shake your head at the latest development since you've been here for it all, it seems.

  • I suppose. It just seems like one of those setups where the other person can see what they wanna see regardless of indication as to otherwise, which I do hope they don't fall into given what we've seen so far.

  • True. And David does seem like the type of person who will see what he wants to see... when it comes to Javier. Because he seems blind when it comes to Kate. lol

  • Now that ANF has finished I thought I'd bump this and give my thoughts on Javi and David.

I made this thread after episode 2 and my opinion has not changed. Javier and David are the best part of this season for me! I seriously love these two. I really enjoy their complex relationship. Hate each others guts one minute then like best friends the next. As much as it may not seem like it at first David truly loves his brother. Javier fucks his life up, no job,, no money and no place to go. David gave him a place to stay despite how angry he was with Javi. And then he takes him to the batting cages to try to cheer him up. David's main issue with Javi is that he believed him to be selfish. Only looked out for himself and was never there for the family.

Point is that I really enjoyed these two and wanted to give my thoughts on them now that the seasons over. Feel free to discuss David and Javier's relationship and how you feel about it now that ANF is over.

  • Haha, this was in January.

  • Thank you for pointing that out.

I think Javier and David's relationship was rather toxic and strained as a whole, mostly due to how David treats his little brother before and after the apocalypse. I don't think the two had a healthy brotherly relationship at all.

From what I've seen, David had held a lot of contempt towards Javier due to his jealousy towards his little brother, which likely stemmed from his own insecurities about not being a good husband and father due to preferring life in the military than as a family man, while Javier had found a talent as a baseball player and had fans to look up to him whereas David didn't.

This relationship could have worked had it been handled right, but in the end the relationship between the two brothers just didn't work for me, and it's mainly due to how utterly unlikable David is. He's abrasive, self-centered, violent, and most annoyingly, hypocritical.

He criticizes Javier for 'only thinking about himself' with nothing concrete to back it up (unless I've missed a scene that justifies David's claims). He makes little to no effort to find his family the moment the apocalypse had started, when he had three months to simply go back to his home where his family was waiting. He lectures Javier about family when in the flashback he basically begs Javier to take care of his family while David goes back to the military. And worst of all, he attempts to kill his little brother (and actually can if the player fails the QTE if he fight back) over his relationship with Kate, even if the player did everything to resist Kate's advances and made it clear to David that Javier is not in love with his partner.

I just don't feel all that convinced that I should care for or feel sorry for David simply because he's the brother of Javier, the person whom I'm controlling.

    This thread ? A blessing.

Javier and David relationship was definitly the best part of this season and I am loving the fact you guys compared them to Shane and Rick who were and still are my fave duo in the show. The two relationships do share similarities. Even today, I still feel extremely bad for Shane. I am glad I got the chance to get Javi and Gabe to promise to do for David what Rick was unfortunately, not able to do for Shane.
With David and Javier it seems there was no way to make the relationship boring. Whether it was by going against him at every opportunity or by taking his side everytime he needed it the relationship was still a pure mix of resentment, jealousy, projection and love.
The way Javier switched from being the guy David used to blame for being a terrible family man to the one who was seen as a better husband, son and father was interesting to see. It's like baseball all over again : David talks Javier into turning into a better family man and Javier surpasses him.
With all the ups and down they went through David and my Javier still deeply cared of each other. When they very well could beat each other up, it was something no one else was allowed to do. Though they could bad mouth one another, they knew they had each other's back. What David did for Javier as he lost his job, Javier paid it back taking care of his family and staying by his side rather than leaving Richmond with Kate.
Papa Garcia started the episode asking me to act like a proper brother, David telling me he had to leave long enough to find out if he could change, Gabe asking me to help his father; I finished the game doing exactly all these things and promised Gabe and Javier wouldn't give up on him.

There's still so much to explore between those two. I'd be really curious to know how exactly Javier and Gabe will get David to get through whatever it is he is going through, what woud David say of Kate's death, how the family dynamic will turn now that everything that opposed David as a character ( Kate ) is gone. I would want to see the people of Richmond interract with the man they almost saw get hanged and David's response to them. I want to see David's reaction to Lingard's death. We already know what Lingard felt about David and I am wondering if David knew about it, but I also want his reaction to seing Lingard again after he gave up on him.
There's so much that can be done with both Javier and David as a duo but as individual characters. The end was open and I'll take anyone's perspective on what they think would happened to them next. I left the season hungrier for their relationship than I was ever since episode 2L.

Until he blames us over something stupid like we got Mari killed not him

That hardly even happened, they implied it briefly and it was dropped just as quickly.
I would have actually liked more of David blaming Javi for Mari's death, his motives to fight Javi are incredibly weak

I was liking their relationship well enough but the last episode went full retard at the garage scene. The motivations to beat Javi WITH A FUCKING WRENCH are woefully inadequate, it's so forced you can almost hear the script being typed.

  • It was the only term I could think of to describe how... unhealthy(?) their marriage seemed.

He knew what he was getting into(hehheh-ew) when he put a ring on it.
I mean, no offense to Kate, but David should've known you can't turn expect to turn no hostoner into a housewife, no matter how close he/she got. And after whatever amount of time they were married, it became clear that the one thing they had in common was going against they're respective natures by maintaining the roles expected of that commitment.

Even better is the fact that it was David who was actually gonna walk, confessing to Javier that being a family man doesn't make him happy--being a soldier does. What gets me about that though is how he constantly talked about responsibility and being a "real man" to the same little brother he's asking to cover for him. Like, I get that it was likely just him venting his frustrations at someone really couldn't understand, but something about that just funny. Hell, for all I know, Kate was still a virgin cause there's little to no indication of what David was actually putting into the relationship beyond just being there.

And when it's all said and done, he tries to kill the brother he was gonna leave to take care of his family, who was stuck looking after them in his absence for four years, who determinately tells him that his new wife has grown apart from him, and who he has stick around to help him claim control of a town he was invested in--all because his self-inflicted soon-to-be-ex-wife said she loves/loved that brother?

    ...K. Days fair!
