I loved the Batman game, engine issues aside it was done really well and the villain was not at all who I imagined. They have up and coming writers that seem to be bringing fresh air to the company.

Their past three games weren't that great in my opinion, with S3 being the worst.
Michonne and S3... I can't figure out which is the worst … moreout of those two.
Batman was great until Episode 3. Episode 4 and 5 weren't as good as the first three.
Due to this, I believe no. There's still a chance they can pull a 180 and make great games again though.
It has nothing to do with me hating LiS, its just that your topic was concerning Telltale and if they could create good surprises. You mentioned how your dog was called Duck (from TWD S1), but before that, you brought up Life is Strange, I was just making sure you knew that LiS was not developed by Telltale, as I've seen many people make that mistake before.
Of course they can be full of surprises. Their past games, which are only a few months to a few years old, have proven that. I think the problem is that they use the plot twist card quite often (pretty much every episode of every TT game) that it's starting to feel numb to the TT fan like us. We still got a few more episodes left in TWD, maybe they'll pull something unexpecting.
Oh yeah, they're definitely capable of creating genuine, good surprises in their games. It's just a question of whether or not they'll put in the effort, the thought and the care that comes with crafting a decent story, like we saw with Season 1. So far, judging by the first two "episodes" of A New Frontier, it seems that they really just couldn't care at this point and know that no matter what, us, the loyal fans, are going to buy the game despite the declining quality.
But hey, maybe with all the backlash, Telltale will realise that they need to get their head out of their arses and start producing some actual good content because it's only so long that they can keep pulling the same shit without sales decreasing (if they haven't already).
Even with the performance patch? Damn...that sucks I really wish they would go to Unreal 4...hell that engine is more forgiving of older PCs than this engine they are using.
Yes but is it a good game? I would say no. Horrible 5th episode...stupid dream parts that are just padding hiding the fact they only had 40 minutes of story left...all these choices boil down to kill Chloe or Let Arcadia Bay get destroyed.
I dunno about good surprises, but they surprised the hell outta me in the month leading up to the game. There's still 3 episodes left, but if I'm being honest there last couple of games went one and done for me, bought the first episode and they just didn't do it for me. And I've actually been a huge GoT fan for the last 15 years and Batman fan since the 89 movie, so I dunno. Somethings just felt off compared to S1 and 2.
It will be really difficult because the fan base, at this point, is very cynical. They've played a good amount of Telltale games, so they are, very familiar with the way Telltale tells their stories and the story beats that will inevitably surface as a result of this. It will be difficult for this change this season due to the large amount of writers on the project and the company likely not wanting to take big risks with their most well known IP.

That was just a way to introduce myself, no biggie. I was just talking about something I like. Just like your username. And that's true, Metallica rules!
See? No problem here.

Its great for you and many others that still like their games but every Telltale game after 2012 for me have been poor. Stories have been great but the gameplay, episode lengths, dialogue and choices feeling like they matter, the lack of hubs, extra optional side quests etc have all been lacking in quality. Badly.
But again please don't let mine and others opinion bother you. It's what you like that matters, remember that. As long as you still enjoy them then great
Despite how some people feel about the way S3 has turned out thus far, I'd say yes.
I mean, for every GoT or Minecraft Story Mode, they h… moreave a Tales From The Borderlands or a Wolf Among Us. For every Amid The Ruins, they have a House Divided.
They seem to periodically have really great series, and then some not-so-great series. Then sometimes they have really good episodes, then some not-so-good episodes. They fluctuate quite a bit, so I wouldn't rule out Telltale having a possible ace up their sleeve for S3.
Yeah... Episode 5 sucked... I would rather have a Rachel Amber apparition explaining everything and turning out to be Max before all this weird puzzles for escaping the Dark Room and the nightmare.

IKR. But I couldn't save Chloe. What kind of selfish person save a friend and let the entire town die? Sorry if you go with that option, but it doesn't work for me.

Strange...I have an i5 with an Nvidia 940 and I have never had an issue other than some lag which I fixed by turning anti aliasing off and using balanced rendering....then I turned AA back on when the balanced setting post patch fixed it even more. I also have 8 gigs of ram (seriously thinking of opening up my laptop and putting 32 gigs in there)
I don't think surprising fans is something that Telltale needs to improve on, they are pretty good at it. The resources would be better spent on the lead up to it, so it makes sense and everything.
I really thoroughly enjoyed the first four episodes, the final episode, not just the ending, absolutely ruined the series for me, it was incredibly depressing.

Are they hiding some good surprise for us or we are just wasting time?
What is a good surprise?
Cheap deaths with no condolences? Predictable twists?
The main problem right now with this game is that it's not trying to be unique at all (story and choice wise)! Look at S1, it wasn't just about survival it was about raising a girl (with positive influence; that turned out to be pointless) the mysteries, the decent character development, finishing their arc with an appropriate death and choices that bite you in the ass and follow you for the rest of the game, now almost every choice now is about survival and bandits, bandits, bandits... I can't even look at it anymore.

Yeah, I have to agree. Especially Nick... What a waste.

I wish I could say something about Batman, but I can't play it without lags. Some serious lags. And my PC isn't that bad.
Why do people rate Michonne mini series so low? I enjoyed it a lot.

OOOOOH

Oh yeah? Well, how about you try this one on for size:
Life is Strange?
more like Life is... uh... stupid!
what you think of that, huh?

And what if the S2 ending was alone?
camera zooms in on door
dramatic pause
cut to black.
[END CARD -- Episode 4, Thicker than water]
lol

roasted
That nightmare was so pointless, yet so damn scary lol
No, no deal well, if a game can't run on a i-5 with a nvidia video card... Well, I give up.
That was just a way to introduce myself, no biggie. I was just talking about something I like. Just like your username. And that's true, Metallica rules!
See? No problem here.
Maybe nothing can surprise Telltale "fans" anymore.
They know what we want. And they have the chance to use with or not. Well... That's complicated.
Well that cliffhanger to episode 3 of Batman surprised me.
I'm not sure if they do for the walking dead...
So there's still hope, I guess.

It saddens me that you use TWAU as an example of a good game

I wish Rachel could come back like Kenny on season 2. "I got real luck" lmao
I have this crazy theory that implies that Rachel is the tornado... wtver.
Well, exept for Warren, Joyce and maybe Kate everyone in the town were dickshits... but I respect your opinion.

And the Stranger in Tales From The Borderlands.
And the ending of A Nest of Vipers.
And the ending of Ties That Bind Part 2.

Episode 1's cliffhanger was really good as well.
I really thoroughly enjoyed the first four episodes, the final episode, not just the ending, absolutely ruined the series for me, it was incredibly depressing.
Give me Capricorn Farms and that slaughterhouse in the next episode of twd and I'll gladly pretend I'm surprised.
