"Logan"; Giving off TWD Game vibes (SPOILERS)
PLEASE WATCH THIS MOVIE EVERYONE; AMAZING MOVIE.
SPOILERS SOON
As you all most likely know, "Logan" is the biggest hot as of yet in the theatres, breaking "Get Out" with over $82 Million sales.
"Logan" is the final movie to feature Wolverine in the universe, along with Professor X, meaning Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman are in for their final ride.
I WILL BE DISCUSSING SPOILERS BELOW
"Logan" is giving me TWDGame / The Last of Us vibes because it features Wolverine (Logan) watching over a younger daughter figure, which (SPOILER) happens to be Logan's daughter (Not as in he impregnated someone; his DNA was used to make her). This little girl looks up to Wolverine as her hero, but Logan does not seem like the hero she used to know. Xavier gives her information the entire movie and somewhere in that, he tells her she is Logan's daughter (Technically).
About the girl, Laura (X-23) is mute the entire movie, but she actually speaks spanish and chooses not to speak to Logan until Xavier is out of the picture, probably because Logan then became ALL she had left in this world. For the rest of the movie, the two begin bonding, and she begins looking over him while he is dying (Logan's healing factor has been poisoned and no longer heals well, this means, he can die now... Wolverine is finally vulnerable).
Eventually, these two do bond through thick dialogue... But they also butt heads.
Logan: "Everyone I care about dies, so that is why I can't stay with you!"
Laura: "Then I will be fine."
While she looks up to him, Laura never had a father, and Logan never had a daughter, making this pair very complementary, as BOTH have no idea what to do with each other. Eventually, after being left behind and Laura going off with her friends, the evil men find them and chase them through the woods... Logan becomes the hero for his daughter and injects himself with this juice to make him stronger... But only temporarily making him the Wolverine we all have loved since X-Men. After catching up, Wolverine has lost all steam and is forced to fight X-24 (Which is a younger clone of him making him the stronger version of Logan). Logan loses this fight and is thrown onto a tree stump; Laura takes him out with a special bullet (This is similar to Clementine taking out the Stranger in Season 1 if Lee was losing).
Laura tries in all her power to save Logan, but ultimately fail. As he is dying, Laura cries out "Daddy! Daddy!" to Logan and he speaks his final words.
"So this is how it feels..."
(Speaking about being a father)
It ends with a small funeral and the cross being turned to form an "X" by Laura ending with her walking off into the distance.
Yes, a very long summary!
So the Similarities:
1. Logan/Laura = Lee/Clementine: Logan is lost and has no purpose in his life that feels like the best thing to do is end it all, although Lee is more charismatic and sees hope in the world. However, Clementine and Laura have more similarities. They both want to live, they are new to the real world and seek refuge with someone older (Lee/Logan). However, Laura is much more experienced and capable and combat than even Season 3 Clementine is.
The ending: Both Lee/Logan die at the end, leaving behind the little daughter figure behind to find her own purpose. Both Lee and Logan die saving the people they love and care about and choose to give up their life to save Clementine/Laura. Lee resorts to cutting his own arm/going alone/fighting a horde of zombies for her; Logan resorts to using all the juice that COULD kill him to catch up to Laura in time to save her, then using his weakened body to give the children time to escape (This led to his death).
The final kill: Both Clementine and Laura kill the main enemy character with a gunshot to the head (X-24/Stranger).
Protagonist Death: While zombies are not an option, having no hope and a daughter figure to Logan/Lee crying over their dying body is quite impactful.
The Theme: Both Logan/TWD Season 1 feature death as their theme. X-Men isn't usually tailored around this, in fact this movie is so dark that it tries to avoid cracking jokes. This movie kills off the final two X-Men and all other main villains/heroes other than Laura; this is similar to what happens in TWD, only Clementine will survive.
The Development: Although Clementine/Lee started off well, Logan/Laura did not. However, if Lee died earlier, Clementine wouldn't have been as sad, but because of the development between both Logan/Laura and Lee/Clementine, both deaths felt real, human, and sad.
I know there are many more similarities, but I can't come up with more as of now.
SPOILERS OVER
I highly recommend watching this movie; it is the most serious and sad superhero movie since the Dark Night; very well made, very sad, very good acting.
Whether you are a Wolverine fan or not, YOU WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE! I watched this movie only watching the AWFUL "Wolverine Origins" and "First Class". I had VERY low expectations as far X-Men movies go, but a Rated R, bloody, and dark Wolverine movie, sounded like something I needed to see, and I can 100% recommend supporting this movie.
Thank you all for the reading, I hope to hear some thoughts from you all and hopefully hear more from all of you as Episode 3 comes out soon.
Comments
the best movie i've see in a long time
Good movie. Definitely got TWD and TLOU vibes because of the whole daddy/daughter relationship and Logan looks a lot like Joel. Although these two, Logan and Laura do bond and seem to get along, its not as strong as the ones in the game, but that's ok. I feel stories like these are good once over a long time. Can't have too many or it'll start to feel like the same story told over again with a different setting/bad guy.
I was excited, as a non-X-Men fan, for this film because of these vibes you mention. But I found it to be pretty disappointing to be honest. The film was predictable, reliant on its hyper violent, grizzly lead (which I found to be boring as hell), and sort of felt over-indulgent. It's like the filmmakers were patting each other on the back the whole time they were making it because they believed they were making something "revolutionary" for superhero movies.
Before everyone blasts me, I didn't hate the movie by any means. I just think it has way more flaws than the love it's receiving would suggest.

Internet playing up. I'd delete one of these if I could. Sorry!
I'm sure that is it for Wolverine now, and sadly, the bond was only being built for 2 Hrs. 30 Min. but when she was crying at the end, it destroyed me, I cried for sure, and the last time a movie did that was "Marley and Me".
To me, I can't bare seeing kids cry, especially when it comes to characters I truly care about, which they built up Xavier, Logan, and Laura fantastically in this movie.
First time in a long time that I left the movies in silence after that ending.
No worries, and after all it all goes down to opinions.
As others may feel like it was slow, I thought of it as no slower than Season 1 of the Walking Dead, and that is the most loved Season for this game series.
Though, I can understand the criticism, the best part of the movie will come down to a few things. "Logan, Laura, Xavier, Tragedy."
It was a tragedy, and it's something we don't get much of anymore in movies, and it felt super serious and it made me feel for these characters. I'm a non-Xman fan, so I never saw Wolverine as some super hero to care about, but after this role in Logan, I thought that Hugh Jackman was able to portray this character to the BEST.
Honestly, I would like more Superhero Movies to be rated R... Deadpool and Logan are evident that sometimes pushing a few boundaries is the RIGHT thing to do.
Another thing, I loved that you keep a middle ground approach to it. Many people have two opinions now:
1. Movie sucked
2. Movie was amazing
It seems like people don't have a middle ground anymore and if a SINGLE thing makes them upset or bores them, they advocate to many to avoid seeing the movie, so thank you for still recommending it and talking even a little good to it!
No problem! I think it's a beautifully shot film. Loved the western vibe and the action was exciting. Xavier was probably the highlight of the film for me.
I think two things marred my enjoyment:
1) while I've seen most X-Men films, I wouldn't consider myself a fan of the franchise or the character. I should add i thought Deadpool was great, so i don't think I'm showing any bias against these films.
2) before I saw the film I'd read claims that it was "The Dark knight of the X-Men franchise". Which I disagree with but to each their own.
Aw, so you more so are upset that you didn't like see what everyone else was saying?
Completely makes since, I haven't watched Dark Night, so I can't make the connection, but this movie is certainly the darkest movie in the franchise.
That movie was so depressing.
Depressing in a good or bad way?
loved this movie, absolutely great
Good.
Fabulous movie. I might even have to watch The Dark Knight again to see whether or not it is still my favourite. The film's ending was the closest to bring me to tears after No Time Left. And I find it really sad that Star Wars or some other undeserving film will Gross more than Logan did.
And yes, Logan does bear resemblance to TWD and TLOU.
Now, I need somebody to create a .GIF of Clem's head Photoshopped onto Laura as she walks out of Liberty carrying a head.
One of the best movies I've ever seen. The R rating was an excellent choice, as it allowed Logan to be portrayed the way he was meant to be protrayed.
Sometimes I almost wonder if THE LAST OF US didn't influence this movie to a degree. And if you think about it, there is a LOT of similarities between Joel and Logan.
(For one thing, Joel is every bit of a badass as Logan, perhaps even more so because he's just an average middle-aged man with no superpowers; in fact there's really nothing unique at all about him, yet he is still one of the most vicious/deadliest fighters of his world.
And like Logan, Joel has lost pretty much everyone and everything he ever cared about. And it's hardened him, including making him angry and agressive, which makes him a such a relatable character for a lot of people, myself included.)
Check out the second trailer for the film LOGAN, and then watch what someone did with a game trailer for TLOU, and tell me what you think? Do you think that LOGAN might've partly gotten some inspiration from TLOU, even of the director didn't say?
Saw it last night, thought it was an excellent movie, violent as all hell and very touching.
But I have a quibble, TLOU and TWD did not invent the trope of the older man and young girl on a road trip story. That title belongs to Paper Moon.
Fuckin' damn straight! I'm surprised you know that film.
I'll watch anything with Madeline Kahn in it.
I feel like they didn't get inspiration for a few reasons.
The director poured his heart into this movie, and I believe this is what he wanted it to be all along.
Though who knows!
Bad. That ending . The new X-men .
I thought the ending was a fitting end to Logan and Xavier. They no longer will play a part now, and that was the main point of the movie now. If they make a spin off for X-23, I'd really hope it'd be similar to Logan in it's rating and mood.
Laura's actor though, she did an amazing job.
Gotta ask you, what did you think seeing Wolverine with gray hair?
Such a damn good film.
I loved it honestly, it makes it just that much more real to me seeing hm old and destroyed like that.
They really nailed the human aspect of this movie honestly.
With an ending like that, it is only fitting that we see these guys again in future media to find out how their story plays out; I personally think this would work better as a TV show (although there are alleged plans for future films). Fast forward to them as adults (obviously Laura wouldn't be affected, IMO for the better) to give them some credibility (because the only one of them to actually stand a chance against Rice's men was Laura) and keep Rictor as the leader. Due to the massive time jump, they'd have had to have lost and met allies (and enemies), so ONLY WHEN NECESSARY (so they wouldn't be abused like in Arrow) flashbacks could fill us in. This could be used to introduce some more mutants and villains.
If the show fails, the legacy of Logan crumbles with it. If the show thrives, it could serve as Marvel's answer to Legends of Tomorrow.
And now that I think about it, the show could almost make Laura the Clementine of X-Men in the sense that they're trying to adapt to new groups (or in Laura's case a familiar one) despite missing their father figures.
Actually got back from seeing it not too long ago. Amazing film, and such a good bittersweet send off for two characters I've been watching since I was in highschool. Jackman and Stuart were a lot of fun to see playing off each other, X-23 was surprisingly well done considering she doesn't speak for a lot of the film. And the choreography, I flipped my shit during one fight scene halfway through the movie and got absolute chills during a particular scene near the end. This is probably my favorite Marvel movie now.
And yea, I was feeling TLOU vibes from the film. Older dude reluctantly takes little girl under his protection to get her to a destination which may or may not still exist/ever existed. I didn't really like the way they handled Wolverines health, felt like they kinda just glossed over what was wrong and kept it rolling, but that's my only criticism of the film.
I honestly would love the series/universe to end at "Logan"; at least Wolverine's story, I don't want him to come back to life at all.
As far as Laura goes, I wouldn't mind continuing her story as a younger girl again, her actor was so well made, that it would feel wierd to see her look, sound, and act any different.
Xavier, Wolverine, and Laura all were amazing actors in this movie, gaining massive respect for the movie in the end.
To me, it's something special when the main character and the name of the movie ends with that same character, meaning the director left everything into this one film and poored his HEART out into this.
Interviewer: "Will there be a Director's Cut of the film?"
Director: "There will be, it's the one in the theatres now".
I understand what you mean.
I feel like the action deserves a lot of praise, I just don't know how they make those flips and movements so realistic.
Especially since X-Men Origins: Wolverine looked like they were flying the entire movie.
