That's not a big time correction because I never said he didn't try to get there after David called and said "Seriously, get your unemployed ass over here, he's dying for real". His brother was already there with the wife and kids. Javier literally lives with his brother. But I thought you were arguing that Javiers story is him trying to make up for the things he's done in the past 4 years later? Did you mean having a gambling problem? Him missing his dads death was a big deal, but that was 4 years ago, he's long since taken responsibility off camera.
BIG TIME CORRECTION!!!!
Javier TRIED to get there before his father died, REMEMBER??? ._. But because the apocalypse was starting and peo… moreple were trying to get out of the cities and whatnot, he was held up and he RAN all the way to his home to see his father.
Everything less than the Season One episodes' length is "short". And personally, I prefer gameplay-areas where I can actually look around/discover and interact with stuff, having optional conversations with people.
"A New Frontier" has laughable gameplay-areas up to episode 3 so far and is basically about 90% cutscene with some quick-time events.
An hour is not short..... Batman: The TellTale Series episodes were that "short".
It's only an hour, peeps, and if you remember most of t… morehat time was cut back due to the extra things that were cut out. Like, back in Seasons 1-2 of The Walking Dead, there were A LOT of details in the game that made Gameplay almost unbearably long.
It is a different Lilly.
The intent was for it to be the same character but then Kirkman created his novel series about the rise of the Governor and it became someone different.
Yeah, he might still be trying to make up for lost time, is what I'm meaning. There's a chance he might feel that it's never enough after all he's done.

I am part of the community merely by participating in the forums! My opinions are as valuable as yours. I have bought the first two games as well, thank you very much! And you ain't seen nothing! Check out all the other discussions I've started in the past.
Can we get a mod in here to help me out with this? Maybe give this person the definition of "being part of a community"?
You just said that you watch the stuff not play the stuff. So that puts you firmly in the position of spectator. If you are not participat… moreing you aren't part of the community. If you are just gonna watch what others do it definitely makes your opinion worth less then someone who experienced it first hand. Its funny that you won't even buy the game but are using the forum so much.
Worst game ever? I've seen worse but i really don't blame those venting their frustration. Paying the same price (or more) as season 1 for this game with less quality in every way certainly pissed me off
I can completely see where you are coming from, but I think what makes it different and not just a spin-off is that Clem seems to still play a pretty big part in it and so it is kind of a continuation. Whole new focus with Javier, but Clem has her role in the story and it continues her tale.
ANF so far is definitely not as good as the first two seasons, but still enjoyable for me as well.
ANF is good, just not as good as the first two seasons. Javier is a likeable character, just not as likeable as Clem. The plot is good (so f… morear), just not as good as season 1. You get the point. ANF is really good but doesn't compare to season 1. I've played season 1 about 4 or 5 times and I know I'll play it again. I only played ANF twice and I'm not feeling like playing the episodes again, not for awhile. Also, I'm not sure if its just me, but it kinda annoys me that people call it season 3. Its a different story like Michonne and doesn't deserve to be considered "Season 3"
To not be disappointed you'd have to be okay with,
The shorter episodes
Clementine's limited involvment
The lack of interaction between characters compared to season 1 and 2
The lack of just walking around, solving puzzle's, down time etc
Kenny and Jane's limted screentime and deaths
Choices from season 2 not really affecting Clementine's personality much so far
The fact that we waited over 2 years for all of that. Plus there is other arguable stuff such as whether the new characters are really all that greatand for me general lack of character development and characters being generally lamer compared to season 1 and 2. Let's say if somehow, people are ok with everything above but aren't liking the storyline to season 3 anyway then that adds even more disappointed players to the list.
I mean if it was just one or 2 things then fine, but when you combine all of that then a lot of people will be disappointed.

But for a lot of people (me included) season 1 was better in practically every way besides graphically. That's not putting it on a pedestal, that's just how most people feel. I can't think of anything season 3 does better than season 1 besides have better graphics.
I'm not a fan of the short episode durations and the flashbacks in Episode 1 could've been better in terms of tying in the Season 2 endings to New Frontier, but beyond that, I think it gets more of a bad rap than it deserves. Most of the hate I've seen (beyond short episodes) comes from not playing extensively as Clem and instead having the spotlight shined on Javier, but I don't mind as I don't play Telltale's Walking Dead games exclusively because of Clem.
For games like New Frontier, Michonne, 400 Days, etc, I come in open minded to any new characters as long as the story is interesting. The story in New Frontier seems a little formulaic and similar to Michonne/Season 2, but we're only two episodes in so I'm still open minded to it.
One theme that i really love, and I like how it is reflected by practically every piece of WD media, is family. That is why I feel it has a similar feeling to Michonne and being just out on the road again etc. for Season 2.
I hope that with the introduction of TNF group proper we will get a much more focused story, as opposed to what happened with Season 2 where the main goal was Wellington and the Carver plot was wrapped up so quickly.

But there's nothing to suggest that. Javiers had very little characterization as far as his motivations go, and truth be told the flashbacks make him look like a self centered ass than an introverted man of deep thought, the much more likely scenario is as simple as has been stated. He promised his brother he'd man up, and that's what he did. The problem with tackling this as the central theme of the story is there is no conflict, that would have come as he came to terms with the reality of the responsibility he was shouldering, which would have hit a lot quicker considering what that responsibility is. Not 4 years later, it should be routine by now.
It's not like this is his wife, these are his kids, there's no lost time to be made up for here. His story should be long past the "woe is me" portion, the game should have been set during the time period of Season 1 if it was going to be about his trouble coming to terms with himself, and that probably would have been a compelling story to experience. Instead they're all surprisingly well adjusted people so far into the breakdown of civilization.
Yeah, he might still be trying to make up for lost time, is what I'm meaning. There's a chance he might feel that it's never enough after all he's done.
Considering the popularity of the first two games and the characters for them, I imagine there were a lot of people who were looking to continue the story in a more focused way, rather than it playing out in the background as the game shifts its attention almost entirely to a brand new character. 400 Days I only bought because it was tying into season 2, which I expected would continue with where we left off. Michonne I completely skipped.
I don't think ANF would receive the hate it did if TT had made clear from the start what they were doing. Instead we got a trailer at E3, the first person revealed is Clementine, with accompanying artwork showing her and Javier walking side by side. It wasn't even revealed that her playable segments would be limited to flashbacks until shortly before release, and even then not by TT, someone noticed the description on Amazon and posted it here in December. Up until and after release a lot of the promotional images featured Clem as much as Javier. I think the whole thing was handled poorly on TTs part, and peoples expectations where in a place the game wasn't going.

I will save my comments until after I play the final episode. I approached ANF with an open mind, as I did with Season 1, 400 Days and Season 2. I shall continue to do so.

How is loving a piece of fiction unreasonable? Alternatively, how is hating a piece of fiction—a creative work in which people employ their capacities to attempt to entertain others, and thus generate money—reasonable?
Again its a matter of opinion for someone to like or hate/dislike something and it's perfectly in someone's right to say how they feel. There is no right or wrong on this
I'll offer you a question.

Nope, badass meaning badass.
And Javi is NOT a cliche. In fact, I haven't seen a story like his in any Walking Dead universe. He's stuck … morewith a family he never deemed to have enough time with and now he's forced to make amends, and he want to make them because he feels guilty after what happened at the start of the apocalypse. Y'know, with their father and whatnot.
I didn't word it very well, I know that no matter what we've chosen she ends up at the same point. I just meant that we had our turn playing from her point of view in season 2 and I'm not as disappointed about relinquishing control for anf as I thought I'd be.

I enjoyed playing season one but I don't have it on that high of a pedestal I guess.

No worries. More power to you if you like less of everything since S1 because that's what Telltale have given us since then sadly
Yeah, I guess I am okay with all of that stuff. I wasn't crazy about what happened to Jane but it didn't break the game for me.
But for a lot of people (me included) season 1 was better in practically every way besides graphically. That's not putting it on a pedestal, that's just how most people feel. I can't think of anything season 3 does better than season 1 besides have better graphics.

Hate is uncalled. Dislike is a hundred percent understandable.

More or less.

That's always good to approach a game with an open mind! ^_^
Well it depends how you feel about it. Some hate it, some just dislike it. Both are acceptable and rightfully so paying the money we do for it
I question whether despising a piece of fiction can truly be reasonable.
I'd imagine no more or less reasonable than loving a piece of fiction.
I'll offer you a question.
How is loving a piece of fiction unreasonable? Alternatively, how is hating a piece of fiction—a creative work in which people employ their capacities to attempt to entertain others, and thus generate money—reasonable?
Question it all you like, I've already said one of the reasons, certainly for me anyway

What about Shane? That's basically the same plot, but slightly edited in favor of a caretaker
Up to a point.
