Thoughts on Episode 3? *SPOILERS*

  • I think David is still an asshole. As a double father himself, he didn't want to "waste" medicine for an ill toddler and throws another kid out into the zombie-world, all by herself. He also basically said "Yo, Javier. Great that you took care of Kate and Gabe, but we don't need you anymore. Goodbye".

I want to abandon him as soon as he isn't useful in the conflict anymore.

It was a good episode. Now, as far as choices go, I can't say as of now because I haven't watched other people's play throughs, but apparent

  • I'm not sure yet. But I do feel that when the dust is settled in New Frontier, we'll have to deal with him. Is it kinda bad I hope he dies during the fight with New Frontier so I don't have to choose between David or Kate? lol

I loved every bit of it, I liked how they showed in the beginning how and why Javier and co left their location in the very first places (properly), also explaining to young gabe why they needed to go, also leading to present day situation where they meet David and discuss what has happened and why. I like that David showed some empathy for Javier and kate, but he was a bit weird on how he went about business (until he heard about what happened to his daughter), the way he treated Javier folks was so unnecessary to (in a realistic way) it's good to vet people, then leading up to meeting with kate (I made sure my Javier was giving her all the love and care she needed) gotta stay committed lmao, also I made sure my Javier was an understanding uncle towards gabe, then onwards to telling truth to the leaders on what went on about Prescott and so forth, which lead to my Javier and co to getting the boot and then David on the sly putting in the necessary stuff in order for the three musketeers to survive out there (Javi, Jesus and the third one), beating up the zombies was awesome and then seeing it get even more tense to the point where Javier was about to die, until my girl Clem and saved his ass, then to see her flashbacks on what happened to AJ and how she snuck into the tent to get him so medicine to help with his illness (which was worth the risk), in that flashback I literally thought AJ died after him getting snatched off her like that, but later on EP 3 David explains it all (kinda), in the safe house the stuff gets even more exciting and clearer on why Prescott was the target(seeing as that doofus came and attacked mariana and Prescott) then to see javi beat the dude to a pulp, I decided to keep one of em as a witness to tell ANF what really happened and then from then on out it was madness. All in all 9/10 EP3 (more clem in EP 4 and 5) this summer. To add on a bit, some of the trees and the baseball bat were slightly glitchy and blacked out at times, but other than that my mind and soul was satisfied for a whole hour.

  • Who knows. Maybe he gives up his life to save Javier, Kate, Gabe and Co. That would be the only thing for him to redeem himself in my book anyway. A decision between David and Kate would be pretty easy.

  • That being said, I did really like the sort of jealousy and brotherly conflict between them in the first episode, so I'm sad to see that plot line kind of dropped

I'm not. It would've been the most predictable boring bullshit ever. I'm super glad they dropped it for a more interesting antagonist (imo). I still feel like the conflict between them is still there but it's not forced on you, it feels like you can reason with David or have him treat you like a brother depending on how you act towards him in dialogue.

He tells the truth about Joan giving the orders. Joan then explains she did it she needed her settlement to survive and valued it more than others but Clint still sides with her and Lingard feels powerless. The ending changes so that instead of a shootout, Javi and David are forced to surrender and Javi gets knocked out by one of the TNF guys then the screen goes to black.

Kind of lackluster endings if I'm honest. Felt really forced. Good episode besides that though.

  • Eh everyone is entitled to their individual opinion, for me EP 3 satisfied me on all levels, it explained a lot and to be honest, i think Clem is going to be leading the fight with javi and david.

I loved it, but the ending kinda confused me as it didn't seem like Clint had sided with Joan and then he and Joan are suddenly allies again accusing David of betrayal in the same scene. It seemed weird. Other than that, I was almost a little let down by David's almost non reaction to Gabe at the gate when Gabe was all "dad" like David was only focused on Javi and Kate for a while, not a word to Gabe or question about where Mariana is. Then his sort of non reaction to Mariana's death and not seeming too pissed/vengeance driven at all. Honestly though, this episode was amazing, character's motivations and who is really doing what, Richmond's politics etc. Everything was so interesting, this is the first I've wanted to replay Season 3 since Ep1

  • Nope didn't do it for me again. If i was to be generous it was better than the last 2 episodes but only in terms of story.

The episode was once again 90% watching cutscenes and choosing dialogue. We literally had one scene of gameplay! One fucking scene! And by gameplay i don't mean the Q&E's, i mean being able to move Javier around when searching for the car jack, fuck all hubs, choices have felt like nothing again so far and once more we get very little of Clem. Also i still don't care about any of the characters like i did with Season 1.

Disappointing again and I knew it would be but i expect this from
Telltale now. It upsets me that they'll never make such a good game as season 1 again

  • It was good. Despite it's length, it holds up as far better than the first. I do wish they had more time for character development though

  • I like how everyone is three dimensional and has a lot more depth.
I should have known that something was up with Joan when she met me and said something like, "we value direct, frank talk here and shun obfuscation."
It relaxed me to the point where I just let Max have it with the "WHAT ABOUT YOUR PEOPLE?! YOU SHOT MY NIECE, JERK." stuff. Then Joan immediately shut me down.
At first I thought that it was just weak writing. Naw. Joan was obviously just full of manure and had a vested interest in Max's protection.

  • You're judging it based on your need for hubs too much. I want more hubs too but I gave the story my focus instead of focusing on lack of hubs, it helped.

The episode is definitely a step in the right direction. It is for sure better than the first two episodes. The choices were pretty good as well. A couple complaints that I do have involves Clementine. I feel like it's still a problem that she just comes and goes. I want to see more of her and I wanted to play as her longer, and I would much prefer if I played as her in the present, same as Javier. I'm glad that some of the characters are getting some development. I also thought the beginning flashback was Execellent. So it's a 8/10 for me. Keep it up telltale and please give Clem more screen time and PLEASE let us play as her in the present.

  • Its not just the hubs. There are many things I don't like about Telltales games anymore. Don't let what i say affect your enjoyment though

I really liked it! Loved the twist with David and the rogue faction in the New Frontier. Also loved beating the holy hell out of Badger. The fucker. But I can't believe Steve Buscemi would do this to me.

How could you Steve. How could you.

Maybe it was because I said I liked cake more than his spinach thing.

  • Again, I loved most of this episode. But there is something that I forgot to write that has bothered me about it big time:
when David is trapped outside of the warehouse Clem pulls her gun and says something like, "I'll kill him the moment he walks into the door."
I chose not to open the door because a) she looked dead serious and b) he would at least have a slight chance of surviving if he didn't have a Clem bullet to the brain.
So Jesus got all sanctimonious and scowled at me as he said, "I thought you were a good man."
Then he opened it. As he opened it Clem didn't even react. She didn't tell HIM not to open it. She even put her gun away and didn't draw it again as he entered the room.
That part REALLY angered me. I'm the a--hole because I was trying to at least let the brother have a slight chance?

  • I kind of don't like Jesus after this episode. He's all high and mighty if you beat Badger to death but he's fine with all the sick shit his buddy Rick Grimes did? Ohhhhhkay...

  • I agree. It was a bit confusing. At first, they sided with David and Javier, but suddenly sided with Joan.

  • I was excited as soon as Steam started the update since I (and all of us) waited quite some time for the new episode. I actually came across an issue before I really started the episode. I couldn't remember what I did in the previous episode(s). I forgot most names and could only really think of key moments, so I was for the first time actually glad that there exists a recap for the previous episodes.

I think that this episode was indeed better than the previous ones. They especially started to focus more on the core characters and I think their character development was great. We learned quite a few things about Kate and Javier and with David in the mix it made the situation more interesting for me. Supporting characters however are still a bit weak in my opinion. Gabe for example, I did not really care if he wanted to stay or come with us. He still feels like a Ben 2.0 unfortunately. I also did the mistake to get rid of Conrad before this episode and from hearsay I do regret that choice (although in my defense, grabbing an innocent person and threatening to kill that person is kind of screaming to me that he may be a liability in the future). Nevertheless as I mentioned, David as an addition made the Episode extremely interesting for me. I'm still unsure what to think of him. At the beginning I had a mixed opinion of him but later on I started to trust him more and more. Just as I was about to think that he may be helpful, we meet Clementine again and hear her story which in return makes me doubtful yet again. The "reunification" later on in the fabric doesn't make it any better. It actually makes me believe that he really is the bad guy here as I'm still not sure why he came all the way to the fabric in the first place. Did he know that they were storing the stolen goods there? Did he know that Max and the others would be coming?(but I'm just wildly speculating at this point). I was so confused at the end that I was actually thinking that maybe Joan wasn't the antagonist and it was David all the time.

I do have to agree with everyone who says there wasn't really a part where you could explore the surroundings. There were quite a few opportunities to implement that too. Maybe instead of instantly going for the containers, everyone was just happy to have made it and they spread out a bit so you have the chance to walk around a bit and maybe trigger the appearance of the thugs with you discovering the stolen goods. As it is now, no one even bothered to check the upper floor where you later fight one of them (Which in my experience is always a sign for an inexperienced group yet we know that at least Clementine is extremely experienced by now).

Some people were also talking about performance issues but I haven't had any issues (60fps during gameplay and 10 - 15fps during the loading screens). I did have one weird shadow glitch but otherwise it ran perfectly well on my end.

Sort of TL;DR: I enjoyed this episode and hope that Telltale can use this episode to make the following ones better (and maybe a bit more interactive too).

  • Eh, while episode 3 is miles better than 1 and 2, I still find it kinda dull, it has none of that survival feel that season 1 and 2 had, its mostly just revenge and talking to people, and I really like talking to people, but I like how season 1 and 2 was actually about surviving, staying at the motor inn for a long time, surturing Clementines arm in season 2.

I frankly barely care about Javiers family, since the game has given me no real reason to, Kate constantly trying to flirt with Javier is getting annoying, since I am not interested, Gabe is still just as useless as ever, and the game is trying to tell you that you shouldnt trust David, but gives you no actual reason to, beyond Clem saying he is bad (which is good enough in my book, since she is way better at everything than everyone else so far, and thats not even an exaggeration, everyone has proven utterly useless compared to Clem), its not like the St. Johns in season 1, where everything seems nice, but youre still not sure if you can trust it, or Bonnie in season 2, she seems nice, but can you trust her? David has none of that vibe, he just seems like he wants to help, nothing he ever does will make you question his motives, yet the game is so keen on throwing this "do you support david or leave him" thing down your throat.

Javiers family with the exception of David is basically just Clementine 2.0, in that they have to be babysitted and taken care off, but Kate is an adult, and Gabe is annoying and frankly hasnt done anything remotely interesting or useful yet,I am just not seeing this so called development youre talking about, Gabe is still whiny, doesnt do anything for the group, Kate is still shot and still doesnt have a clue in the world, David has basically changed from "dominant husband and brother", to "friend chit chat brother who gets kinda angry if you betray him", Frankly I feel like Clementine has had more development than the entire Garcier family together, and I really think the game should have focused around her, I just find this whole family drama extremely dull

Javier's family is the focus, and they've been getting a shit ton of development. I mean, you get all that backstory between Javier, Kate, a

  • New Frontier is awesome, just finished episode 3 and Telltale has really hit it out of the park with ongoing character development and a story line that pulls you in deeper the longer you play. I left this episode just like the last, immediately wanting to move onto the next. I haven't been this drawn into the story's development since Clementine was with us as Lee in the original. I can't wait to finish this season and I hope Telltale will continue the series for many more to come.

I didn't beat down Badger, but as I stated, I know that he gets high and mighty if you think that not letting the brother into the room is the right move.
I let Badger turn ONLY because I thought that it would torture him more-- he was practically BEGGING me to kill him, so I didn't. When he didn't look panicked when I said, "let him turn" I wish that I had gone to town on him with the bat.
So Jesus got preachy twice in this one, huh? As I stated months ago, he seems cool in the comics, but my douche meter for him goes off the charts in this game just on his voice alone.

  • I thought Ep. 3 was an improvement over the first two atrocities. I just wish that Gabe would have died. Also, why get rid of Jesus? One of the 2 interesting characters in the whole game other than David, Javi and Clem.

  • A huge step up from Ties That Bind. While I personally enjoyed those episodes for what they were, I could still sort of see why some people didn't care for them. I had my fair share of issues with them as well. Above the Law on the other hand is my favorite episode of the season so far. It's much more focused, much better paced, has a lot more development for the new characters and even some for Clementine, and it took the plot in a direction that I didn't expect. Really enjoyed this one.

That baseball bat scene with javier and that guy was so satisfying to see and hear. Didn't care much for jesus preaching though. Javier gave that guy what he deserved. David's grown on me as a character too. And ava flooring tripp with one punch lol. That was surprising, funny and cool to see. She's definitely one of my faves even more so now.
