Which ending do you think that will fit for the 'canon/actual' ending, in your opinions?
Imho, I think the ending where only Kate died would be appropriate to be canon ending. I have my reasons.
Let's take a step back to episode 5 opening flashback
Rafael's words to Javier are:
"Legacy, Javier. It's all anyone leaves behind."
"You two are all I'll leave behind."
"You have to take care of each other."
"Be brothers! Before it's too late."
And then you will be given 2 options, to accept Rafael's plea to be a good brother for David or refuse (I'm sure most of us will accept it).
Now, I'm not joking when i said that each episode's opening flashback somehow might have had some sort of correlation to the episode's plot line.
And it was proven IF you choose to stay loyal to David as his little brother. When it came to the fight scenes between David and Javier, funnily enough, there are 2 conclusions that you can stay loyal to him:
- If you choose to not fight your brother and say "I love you" 3 times, then there is this "You did not fight your brother" notification.
- If you choose to be silent during the fight (not choosing any of the options), the notification will state "You keep your promise to your Pa/Rafael."
And then, if you decided to go after David and Gabe (with Clem in tow), it will trigger this conversation between the brothers:
David: "I was kidding myself. We're...never going home. That hope died the same day we all drove away. The same day Pa died."
then Javier will try to convince David to stay by saying what their Pa said once to them.
Javi: "We are your family, David. There's still hope here. We have to take care of each other. Legacy, David. it's all anyone leaves behind."
P.S.: and also, the sequence of actions when we go after Gabe and David really fit with the official trailer and key art.
Now, what about you? Which one do you think will fit the most for the 'canon' one?
Comments
How about no ending is canon and Telltale leaves The New Frontier - realizing it was a huge mistake - and never return to it again.
To me, definitely the Gabe and David dying but Kate lives ending. That ending felt right and both Gabe and David's character development in this episode led up to that scene.
I think the ending where Javi saves Gabe and Clem stays with Kate is really good for the following reasons:
It ultimately felt like the "right" ending that the season built up to, although I also like the ending where Kate and Javi bury David's dogtags.
ahh c'mon now, don't be like that...
I'm just trying to have some discussion with y'all
Thanks for the opinion though.
But it feels like there is no closure on David's and Javier's family conflict, because David died off-screen, right?
I think the fight pretty much sealed the deal on the family conflict.
Well, I guess we have different insights of the fight then, because it feels a lil' bit anticlimactic.
I think the one with Kate and Gabe alive and David dead is the easiest to imagine them following through on. It kind of brings it full circle and Javier having a family on the way sets the tone for something more with Richmond.
I'll consider the with Kate in a relationship my canon. Kate and Javier will be able to start a new life with a family of their own and create their own legacy.
Agreed.
It's nothing against you, just the Season. It was supposed to be Clem's story, not a bunch of rando's.
I agree with you that ending really feel right and just like you said David get an extremely emotional death and when the guys were looking for Kate in my opinion was sader then David's death there's also a chance she made it but I don't think she did and I don't think she will be in the DLC.
Well, you still get the notification "You kept your promise to your dad" if you say "I love you" 3 times, at least I did
ill say the one where Both David and Gabe live because Love interests never survive in The walking dead its always just a matter of time.
althought a close second would be the Only Gabe lives ending in which the Brother plotline is finished but David dies and Kate s fate is unknown.
You're right! Well my bad then
What did you do in your Clem flashbacks Hammy.
Which one?
Did you inject Aj
Did you say goodbye to Aj or spit in Davids face
Did you accept to join the new frontier when Ava asked
I think
No I didn't
The former
I accepted Ava's offer
May I ask, why asking me that?
Im trying to figure out how people got the David ending, Im guessing by now its triggered by accepting Avas offer and nothing more as it makes Clem less independent than choosing to tough it out alone with Aj, making her chose to go with Javier instead of going alone.
Well I always thought if you wanted Clem to go with Javi, you had to always take her side on every choices regarding Clementine, such as:
Thus making your Clem trust you more, so she could go with you to go after Gabe and David (if you wanted David and Gabe alive ending)
Apparently it is only triggered by accepting Ava's offer to begin with but yes how she reacts to either going with Javi or not can be taken different ways, in my What did clementine become it said Clementine trusted Javi to go alone which is where I drew the canon conclusion she didnt trust Javi enough to go alone
Her splitting or staying with Javier does seem unrelated to her loyalty towards Javier, since she did the opposite of me in my playthrough, but I was completely onboard the Clem train throughout my entire playthrough, someone made a post on /r/thewalkingdeadgame, dont know if it was you, where he explained how its basically just the flashback choices that chooses how she chooses who to go with/to.
At least, in my end card for Clementine, it said that she wanted to save as many as possible, and therefore concluded that splitting up was the smart thing to do, because she trusted Javi's and her own skills so she knew they would both be fine, but I have seen other end cards where it says something along Clementine concluding that she would do better on her own, which indicates that she doesnt trust Javier as much as in the other outcome
Mine also said she was confident enough in her and Javis abilities to both handle it alone. Thats why I guessed if she goes with Javier, in some gameplays, it means that she didnt trust Javier enough, but thats not the case with all of them.
I think her going with Javier has nothing to do with her loyalty per say, but rather her values, as if what I have heard going around that the flashbacks are the major choices that chooses what she does, that would mean that its what her morals/values are, as well as whether or not she is independant, since it seems that rejecting or accepting Avas offer is a major player in whether she goes with you or not, so it could be concluded that she is more confident in herself and Javi if she doesnt accept Avas offer, since she was alone for longer before joining The New Frontier
Yeah that is what I guessed, although that sucks because although Id play my game over to get the David ending how Clem turns out is more important to me in the game.
For me, Gabe dying ending is canon. Because I never regret any of my decisions in the whole season and it leaded this one. As much as I hate the fact that Gabe is dead , still it seems like an actual ending to me.
Personally, I much prefer the splitting up to help Kate while Clementine goes after David&Gabe, as it's the closest to being the best (and happiest) ending.
Javier,Kate and Gabe living with Clementine leaving I believe is the cannon/preferred ending.
That's the one I got and it really does fit The Walking Dead's overall tone. My only problem is along with that I rejected Kate, killed Conrad, and killed Lingard so everything about that ending is just bitter for me.
I also believe that Kate dying is the most appropriate one, however, I think all the endings will get merged together, if we'll ever gonna see the continuation of Javier's story.
How is that possible though?
Oh ya know, kill all determinant characters in a flashback and have Javier tattoo his arm with the names of the fallen, maybe change the dialogue options a little or get him to wear David's dog tags or Gabe's hat. After Kenny/Jane, it's hard to expect something more.
Ahh the usual treatment...
Sadly.
Considering Gabe survives 3/4 possible endings, I'm leaning more towards thinking that whatever the 'canon' ending is, it has him in it. I felt pretty satisfied with David's death and the last words he exchanged with Javi. It definitely felt like the season was building up to that moment. Not to mention, I'm almost positive that if we come across Javi again in the next season, he'll be a leader of Richmond, regardless of what you told Jesus at the end.
Yeah my ending was me saying I love you 3 times then it said "you kept your promise to your father" and then that Kate death scene happens. I think a cannon one would've with the Kate Zombie one and then a mix with the Gabe death (Along with the Gabe and Clem kiss )
A little bit unrelated, but is it possible to get an ending where Gabe and Kate is alive?
Javier, Kate and Clementine togheter saving Richmond is the best ending for me. Fuck Gabe.
It's possible!
You just have to somehow make Clem go after Gabe and David (David died off screen), and you go with Kate to Richmond
