ANF Episode 5: Appreciation Thread/Hopes for Season 4

If this post has already been done, just link me to the post please and delete this one.

I see a lot of criticism on the forums, some well deserved, but I want a place to be meant primarily for Episode 5 where fellow fans can talk peacefully about the things that you enjoyed about the episode, that way we can have a less toxic place for the people that do actually like this season or episode of TWD Game.

I'll start with my view; Telltale did the best with choices mattering in this Season over any other season, Rufus for example made a come back in Episode 5 showcasing his ultimate demise. While Clint/Joan left, I don't think that was a problem with choices, and mainly just leaving the fate open for us to debate or to answer later. I LOVED the multiple endings, and the characters really felt good this episode, especially Javier, Kate, Gabe, David, and Clementine.

    What I liked:

    -Javier Garcia
    -Ava
    -David and Kate relation options up to episode 4. Episode 5 David was like an entirely different character in my playthrough
    -The variety of flashbacks and how differently you can play them
    -Choices
    -Conrad survival
    -General replay ability. I replayed the game 4 times and that's just with wellington flashbacks. I'm gonna do four more playthroughs probably for jane and kenny flashbacks

    Hopes for season 4:

    Javier Garcia to be a major side character. Not determinant at all. Keep him alive 100% like Clem.

    Mermaid King Luke

    Hubs

    For characters not to act completely out of character in episode 5. I should have been able to resolve David by being on his goodside throughout the season without him looking like a crazy person.

    Older AJ with Kenny's hat on.

  • I forgot to mention this in my post, but the soundtrack was one of the best in a TWD Game this far (Only Episode 5), we didn't hear the awful crap such as the "hurry/action" sound that sounds like someone punching a violin's strings.

    Also, the deaths were all very well made (Other than Tripps supposed death).

    The amount of endings was great, and we even got an Easter Egg ending for Javier where he dies in front of Gabe.

  • I know this sounds a tad unrealistic for Telltale, even though Mass Effect managed to pull this off too, but I'm hoping that they are willing to support determinant characters like Gabe in future Seasons even if they don't survive the whole way through the story.

  • I feel like Conrad was a good start, so we may actually see that; I'm sure Javier will make it into Season 4 somehow.

  • I give telltale credit for actually doing really good with determinant characters, however as shown in ANF they simply cannot keep up with several determinant characters at once.

  • My hopes for clementines story are:

    • 1+ hour episodes
    • Well crafted OST
    • Good pacing
    • Choices having legitimate consequences and importance
    • less fast paced action and gore with more focus on characters and story
    • Interactive hubs
    • Quality character development
    • Character story arcs
    • Legitimate emotional scenes that are built up rather than cheap shock value deaths
    • Improvement of bugs and glitches
    • A grounded cast that does not die
  • I have to say, I disliked how the episode was paced, but actually liked a couple of little scenes here and there.

    What I liked:

    • David going batshit crazy and attacking Rufus and his girl, then shooting him like it was nothing. It really showed we had no control over the situation and Javier is helpless against him, that David is hot-headed beyond understanding and can't be stopped if furious. It gave us a sight of what to expect later on;
    • David standing on that ledge; it was quite surprising to see him at first. The scene itself was really nicely paced;
    • controlling Javier in the generator scene;
    • Kate slapping David;
    • background music when David fights Javi; one of the few pieces of ANF's soundtrack I actually enjoyed;
    • multiple endings, I guess it's a good thing that our choices matter;
    • Javi desperately fighting off muertos trying to reach Gabe and David trapped in the car. You could actually hear him panting and see the despair in his eyes;
    • the rain;
    • photographs of people who died;
    • credit music.
  • The scene where Javier is fighting all the walkers was one of my favorites out of the series, it shows how much he struggled and cared for Gabe/David.

    Also, the piece where Javier is fighting/saying I Love You to David was amazing, such a powerful scene with a great OST backing it up.

  • I didn't like "I love you" part, felt off, but I agree, music was very good.

    If anyone curious, here it is:
