Oh, so scientists discovered the exact numbers now? I have to stop calling myself "bi" now then, since I can't match the 50/50 ratio. Damn
For real. Being part of "LGBTQ" does not mean people have the desire to make out with everyone. We fall in love the same way "hetero" people do. Or search for "adventures".. psst, surprise.. the same way hetero people do. Javi just fell in love with Kate, that's just it. Life happens.
being bisexual means you are 50/50. please stop defending telltale and get off my back. you are giving me anxiety. if you dont like my opinion, then just ignore it.
Well, it didn't fit into the story earlier. The first episode was build-up for all characters. The Garcias, the new Clem, Prescott. In terms of Javi, they had to show his connection with Kate. The development already wasn't that great tbh, it would be even less if they took time away from that and squeeze Javi's bisexuality somewhere in there.
And after that, episodes 2-5 have no peace. It's constant danger, stress and action. There only was some peace at the end in Richmond. A moment to take a breath and calm down, time to talk about daily life things. You know?
My whole thing about this is we've spent the entire game being Javi and this is the first time we're finding out he's Bi. Like I know sexual… moreity isn't relevant but you'd think this at least would've been brought up sooner than literally the last few seconds of the game. Maybe had Javi been able to flirt with Jesus back when they first met, it'd be different or something i dunno. Just kind of has that feeling like Telltale went "Btw Javi's Bisexual." out of left field.
Well, this is awkward. Telltale Games is pushing an agenda onto its already young and impressionable fans. This comes as no surprise since i… moret all started with Matthew and Walter in season two. Aside from that, Javier didn't show any signs of being interested in males sexually, and now all of a sudden we learned from a lead writer that he was bisexual. Like, what?
How about playing RPGs then? Telltale games are no RPG where you create your own character.
You play as a defined character and have only a little freedom within narrow limits. Sexuality is outside of these limits, the same as things like hair-/eye-/skin color, voice and overall body shape.
I'm typing about the character itself, what you're a sexually attracted is what is a part of your character... I have no idea why are you bringing up race into this, there was no plot in a game about that.
Did you ever think about the possibility that people celebrate... because the world is progressing into a better direction? Progress that shows how LGBTQ people don't have to hide and fear for their lives? That they start to be accepted and supported by the civilized world?
Project yourself into our position. You would celebrate too, believe me. And it is not a bad thing. Today and in the near future, progress MUST be celebrated and get attention. Or do you think racism would simply vanish as well, as soon as people stopped talking about it? That's not how it works.
You see this...this is the problem we have. It makes me so damn annoyed.
When a character is LGBT and it's confirmed, people will throw a… more party about. No matter what. And I'm so damn sick of it.
They always have to bring more attention to it, which only causes more fights. If you truly want people to not have a problem with LGBT characters being in video games, then how about you stop bringing so much attention to it and instead just let it flow naturally? I don't see anyone throwing a party for every character that is confirmed as straight. I thought the whole goal was to make both straight and LGBT characters equal, but instead it always has to be a party whenever an LGBT character is confirmed as being LGBT. Stop bringing so much attention to it and then maybe it'll start to actually feel natural and there won't be any problems.
Count the number of straight protagonists you know. Count the number of non-straight protagonists you know. Now you should have a good idea … moreas to why some might like Javi being bi. It's also not like there aren't topics on plenty of other things in ANF.
Of course being LGBT is considered normal in, some places. But it's still not widely accepted. That's why even something as small as one sce… morene and confirmation that Javi is bi, can mean so much.
It's so important to me and the reason some people get so hyped about it is because, representation and LGBT characters are, few and in-between. Most shows have one token gay character or no gay characters at all. And especially since Javi is bi, it makes it so much better because bi people usually get erased, sometimes the word isn't even said even though it's clear the character is bi.
That's why it matters. And these days, we still need to celebrate being LGBT because some places are still so backwards, and even in western countries, you can still get killed just for being LGBT.
This is a win, at least in my eyes. It's so important and, it really does matter. (And don't worry I'm not offended, I'm just making a point :) )
When the whole world treats LGBTQ people like Sweden and Denmark do today, then we can stop with the celebration. But until then, there is still a shit ton to do and things to change. And every step into the right direction is important and worth celebrating.
How dare us lgbt people be excited when we actually get a canon character like us. Maybe straight people should just let us have fun, that harms no one.

Like I said two other times in this thread, name ten other bisexual male playable characters, since you all want to claim there's too many lgbt characters these days.
being bisexual means you are 50/50. please stop defending telltale and get off my back. you are giving me anxiety. if you dont like my opinion, then just ignore it.
The same thing applies to when we first heard in the AMA about Clems last name and REAL dad to be revealed in the finale but apparently they scrapped that for S4 or it was all a joke to begin with XD
But why? It was a 10 second scene that some don't get, and for those that do, they may not even interpret it that way. If Telltale made a concerted effort to properly show Javi's bisexuality throughout the game, I could understand, but a last second addition, it feels shoehorned and outright pandering.

I think it just comes largely down to how Telltale chose to reveal Javier's sexuality. We had several flashbacks where they could've shown it, but instead, they decide in the last episode to express it and it just seems a bit random because before that there were no hints to suggest it. What's the point of even having a bisexual character if they're not even going to establish it outside of the very last episode? It gives the impression, to me at least, that this wasn't what was originally planned and they just threw it to be diverse for the sake of being diverse. It's not a big deal, really, but I definitely don't think it's anything to be necessarily happy about it either.
It was pretty cute, but I I don't feel like it proved he was Bi. Could've just been a joke (Unless the writers confirmed he can swing both w… moreays?).
I kinda wish we did get the choice to romance Jesus. I would've dropped Kate in a second for that beautiful man.
You think lgbtq is acceptable. Other people don't. Don't look down at others because you think are right and the rest wrong including writing they are defective.

If he was always meant to be bi then why did I have the option of flirting with Eleanor but not Tripp or any of the other male characters? (even if it just made them uncomfortable)
That would've actually been quite funny.
As it is, it just seems like a last minute decision to score some LGBT brownie points to make up for a pretty bad season.
The same thing applies to when we first heard in the AMA about Clems last name and REAL dad to be revealed in the finale but apparently they scrapped that for S4 or it was all a joke to begin with XD
Not true. There are almost no non-straight male protagonist (or even side characters not treated as jokes) in popular media. Homosexual or bisexual women are far more common. Non-straight men are absolutely under-represented, which is why it is surprising (in a good way) that Javier is bisexual, and it would have been even more surprising if he was gay. I can't name a single gay male protagonist in any game that isn't a RPG where you can choose who to romance.
But you are correct that the rest of the LGBT community is under-represented.
Look, I'm bi-sexual myself and I could care less about Javier being LGBT.
Javier was a decent character, but suddenly giving out this information is just stupid. There were no real implications of Javi being bi-sexual before "flirting" with Jesus. I wouldn't even say it was "real" flirting. More like laid-back joking.
I don't even know why this was even established. It doesn't change Javier's story one bit. Sure, I suppose it makes Javier a bit more "likable" for "people like me", but I couldn't honestly give a monkey's left nut.
why did I have the option of flirting with Eleanor but not Tripp
Same reason you can flirt with Jesus but not Ava. Just because he's bi, doesn't mean he's attracted to every character. He likes the conventionally attractive ones (Kate, Eleanor, Jesus).
fun fact: Javier uses the same flirt response he uses on Eleanor with Jesus. "you know what they say"
If he was always meant to be bi then why did I have the option of flirting with Eleanor but not Tripp or any of the other male characters? (… moreeven if it just made them uncomfortable)

But the difference in these choices is not as big as you might think it is. The point is, the characters are already pretty much defined. And their sexuality is set in stone, the same way as eye-color is. It's not a "character trait" that can be changed.
You want true freedom with your main character? Go play a RPG like Skyrim then.
... you kinda can.
Because you can determinant how they can act in certain segments of the game.
Like Lee can be threatening, Clem can be clueless, and with Javi... well... he's really blank of a character so not much of anything.
Interesting in this thread that two folks that should relate the most to Javier don't really care all that much and feel like this is sort of a shoe horned in element.

Oh wow. How dare they "push the agenda" and show young people that LGBTQ-people exist and are normal like everyone else. What a crime, right?

Not all bi people are the same, we all have different preferences. I'm into women way more then men, so no it's not always 50/50.
ha
You know Kate is bad when I, a (mostly) straight guy, felt more comfortable flirting with Jesus than her.
I loved flirting with Kate. I'm probably Kate's biggest fan.
I mean, yeah, representation is good. But my point here is why wait for the finale to confirm Javier's sexuality?
The same thing applies to when we first heard in the AMA about Clems last name and REAL dad to be revealed in the finale but apparently they scrapped that for S4 or it was all a joke to begin with XD

I guess personality is also within narrow limits here as well?

They DID confirm it.

Being LGBT is acceptable, it is normal. Those other people who don't think that, are wrong. Dunno why you're making this point to me ???
If he was always meant to be bi then why did I have the option of flirting with Eleanor but not Tripp or any of the other male characters? (even if it just made them uncomfortable)

Actually they never said anything about seeing it in the finale.
Of course. You can't play Lee to behave like Badger, you can't play Clementine to behave like Sarah and you can't play Javi to behave like David.
Uh ok, doesn't affect the game in any way, but ok.

Do you need a reason every time a black person is represented considering they're not the majority? Or native americans?
This is no different.
Look, I'm bi-sexual myself and I could care less about Javier being LGBT.

Rejecting Jesus =/= straight
Just like rejecting Kate doesn't make Javier gay

It depends person to person. Representation matters to some and not others. To me (am bi) it matters but peoples values are diverse.
Totally the face someone makes when flirting...
Yes that of course is the look you'd give when rejecting someone, just pointing out that their armour looks great but... when you actually flirt,
This is totally the face someone would make
It is. -_-
