Kate's actions are simply unbearable

Was it really necessary to tell David that she liked Javi?! Especially when I rejected her every single time I could. She provoked a very nasty fight and didn't seem to regret it at all! Of course I'm the one to get fucked up, even though I had NO feelings for her whatsoever.
Not to mention the fact that we were in a middle of a bad situation and there was no time for drama. Just tell David off, woman, don't get me involved in all this! I tried my best to stay away from this shit and guess what? NO ONE CARES! Kate still pretends we had a thing and pisses off David on purpose. She became a typical instrument for a forced conflict with a character I always supported. I'm not sure what Telltale's intentions were, but now I hate her even more. ARRRRRGH STUPID ANNOYING BITCH so glad she's gone in my playthrough, might as well hit on Jesus now, he'd probably never do something like that

  • 100% I agree with you, no matter what I do to keep my javi safe from the problem that women may cause to me, she still follow me and throw me in a deep hole, like realy what is wrong of that women I said to her ( I don't feel the same why ) and I was on her side for saving richmond than why she keep causing me problem by saying ( I loved you ) front of david she was clearly looking for causing that fight between me and my brother.

  • When Kate kissed Javier in front of David, I was like "Jesus, Kate. You could not have picked a more terrible moment." : /

  • It's very disappointing. I sided with David almost the entire game. The only time I didn't is when it's almost literally impossible to defend him. I tried to push Kate away at every chance I could, this obviously wasn't enough. In the garage scene, Kate said that 'I can't believe I had a crush on you either!'. It's literally just a setup to get David angry. All your actions with David before this doesn't come into effect here which is very disappointing.

Also David and Kate do the old switcheroo like Joan does with killing Ava/Tripp. Kate wanted to leave but then changed her mind to help the people in Richmond. David wanted to stay and make things right and then wanted to leave Richmond.

It feels like she didn't care about Javi at all, she just wanted to make David mad. Nice plan, Kate, except that you're okay in the end but I get beaten by my own brother whom I dearly love.

  • That scene with David on the roof was awesome, but then his character went downhill. So much potential for explored brotherly feeling, especially with that flashback in the beginning... But telltale was trying hard to make us dislike him. Which is absurd, because he was enjoyable to side with in previous episodes.
Basically, he hugs you and then in the next day beats the shit out if you. Wow so logical

  • Same but I don't really hate her, she is just too obsessive, I would have chose to be with her if she wasn't married to David, because he is Javier's brother and I do everything for him, still I don't get why I couldn't save him and why Clem couldn't go with me to save him, even if I have done everything for her too... That sucks!

  • On top of all that, I think my game glitched or something because in the church she asks me to give her some 'space' and I'm like " ??? You got it Kate, that's all you've had from me this entire season but sure, here's even MORE space." Then she's surprised Javi was so quick to give her said space. I don't get it man

  • I hope it's not going to be a trend for Telltale to force love triangles. It feels like amateur writig half the time and I hate it especially when most of the time I don't ship it.

  • What a terrible character. Kate was literally trying to get everyone killed at that point. Didn't bother to try and say anything after she threw Javier under the bus. But Telltale needed some fuel for the fire and get a climatic fight going.

Another thing that bothered me about her was how active she was with a bullet hole in her. Like she just got done ecaping the hospital the other day and she seems perfectly fine. Capable of kIlling zombies and jumping from building to building. Did the writers forget that she got shot and that's why she ended up in Richmond, to get her help, not because we wanted to.

  • This entire season was incredibly tropey. The love triangle, the feuding brothers, the angsty teen..

  • JESUS X JAVI FUCK YEAH!!

  • Happy she did it. Gave me a reason to finally give back to David some of what he seemed to enjoy dishing out.

  • Eh. Sorry for pro-David fans, I guess or at least those who just didn't care about that love triangle thing altogether(can't say I don't agree there).
But really, it's just a "because the plot demands it" type of situation and though David himself was already stepping out of line beforehand, he really could've handled getting that non-twist through his thick skull better than he did. Especially with the previous episode's flashback in mind.

  • Yeah man. It's like she loves the drama and no matter what you pick, there will still be a fight. Perhaps things would be different if she didn't do that...

  • I feel ya. Never liked her, and her actions in episode 5 made me dislike her even more. The fact that she can just coldly take her wedding ring off instead of being decently respectful and saying ANYTHING. I mean, her husband, and brother of the person shes obsessed with just died.

And don't even get me started about how she can suggest starting a family with Javi 3 days after. LOL wut.

Rejected every single advance she made, still got thrown into the mess. Gotta love that TelltalePlotConvenience®

  • Shooting her in the head was nice.

  • I agree.

That scene is complete bullshit if you reject her all advances.

But that scene is completely understandable if you've been Pro-Kate and Anti-David throughout the season, like me.

Seems like Telltale was relying on lot of people to NOT reject Kate, since they didn't bother to make a different scene to play out if you did.

  • Kate was transformed into a terrible character along with Eleanor and Gabe. Whoever wrote some of these scenes did not care about whether things made sense or not. They just saw an event in the story, and did whatever they could to reach that point. So they force you to dislike David - or attempt to - if you haven't already. "Let's have David go from sane to insane to sane!" The writing had David's behavior more erratic than Kenny when TTG was trying to have him build heat. Kate died in episode 2, in my eyes. Smh...

  • SHE IS SUCH A FUCKING BITCH. She just can't shut the fuck up about her stupid romance. I told her to fuck off because I wanted peace between brothers and this bitch destroyed it. Why wasn't there an option to have both Kate and Gabe dead?

  • edited June 2017

She did not have a problem slapping David unprovoked but when Clementine and Gabe tries to stop David from beating Javier to death (determinately) she won't even lift a finger to stop David despite her being the cause.

She seems to only feel bad and do right for Richmond strangers but not for Javier who she "loves/loved" and protected her in 4 years.

Kate is confusing me. I really don't get her, and when I actually start to reflect on her actions, it just seems like she is incredibly selfish.

First she starts with joking about leaving Gabe at the side of the road as he is asleep in the same vehicule. That's an interesting joke to make as she later may cause Javier to abandon him to a man she just keeps on calling dangerous... TWICE. She clearly does not care about David's safety or feelings, the fact she insists on leaving him to a dangerous community is a perfect example, but her actions suggest a bit of selfishness when it comes to Gabe too. She disregards everything he may feel about his father and after he got hit by a wrench as his father was so enraged he tried to kill his brother, she still, made Richmond a priority.

Why would she make Richmond a priority when she wanted to leave back when David was dealing with Joan ? Joan was stealing from more than one community, by saying it wasn't our problem she clearly showed she didn't care not only about David, but about all the other communities. The only explanation I can find for her decision in the last episode is she wanted to get rid of some kind of guilt or something.

Then the whole love triangle. Some people like to read David as abusive but that's definitly not what Kate's daring actions with him suggest. She was into Javier before the apocalypse even started. As Javier and her hands are together she will want David to see this...for some reason ? What went through her head really ? She just broke his army glass, that was already enough for him to be mad, why would she try and make him jealous as well ? That was such an inconderate thing to do.
Now David is clearly on edge, he was betrayed by his community, lost his best friend, knows he terrifies almost everyone in this family, and she either slaps him and kiss Javier or slaps him and throw Javier under the bus. Why? For me, it was the later, but I certainly can't understand the former either. In some playthrough I saw that if you accept to start a relationship with her SHE will suggest to talk to David about it. It was satisfying to hear, it has been more than 4 years she clearly was more interested by Javier than she was by David. I expected her to be respectful about it... but she chose the worst possible moment and the worst possible way to tell him. She was so condescending about it too. Zfter ignoring him for who knows how long she finally decides that throwing Javier under the bus is the best way to go. It's like she wanted that fight to happen, there's no possible way she didn't see it coming.

During the fight, Gabe tries to intervene, Clementine actually stops David... but Kate, who was the whole reason this fight even started doesn't even lift a finger. It reminds me of the flashback when she and David fight over that army glass and if you tell him off she will deny she said she wanted to run away with Javier even when David is out of the room. Kate ???

How nonchalant she is about David's funeral is quite funny or sad, I literally don't know what to choose. She won't say anything just leave her wedding ring and be like '' bye'' instead... I just... wow.

In the Kate only ending she crosses every possible line because she pretends on morning David and Gabe ( who's death is a little bit on her too ) for five seconds and then she goes and say she ''never felt this calm'' and she ''wants to start a family''. What the fuck Kate ? In what kind of world would you say that ? Especially after saying she is glad Mariana is gone so she wouldn't have to live in this kind of world. If so, why bring another child in that world ? I would have refused so fast but she isn't even alive in my ending.

Maybe they were going for the selfish, immature, no bondaries kind of love interest but damn wasn't it painful at times... It's hard to see her as a victim of anyone really. Some people say it was ''out of character'' for her to do what she did to David in the last episode. I'd say that her character's irresponsability was clear since the scene in the car back in episode 1, she even admits it herself. But, she still seem inconsistant at times to me.

  • I failed to get attached to Kate, maybe because her character is terribly inconsistent and she does her best to piss off everyone and ruin more and more lives.

She's feeling guilty for all that happened in Richmond, okay, I got it. People died in front of her, little kids orphaned, women and men torn to pieces by the walking corpses she let inside. Everything's slowly burning in hellfire, buildings falling down, general chaos and panic, etc.

    Act 5, Scene 5

Kate (dramatically): "What better moment could we possibly find for my suffering self to declare my feelings towards my husband's brother, knowing that my husband is on edge and might hurt both his brother and my adoptive son, that I love dearly? Oh cruel world! Listen up, everyone, I'm about to get y'all killed!"

    Everyone else (shocked): wut

David (triggered): where's that fucking wrench

  • Pretty much Kenny and Jane all over again. An annoying idiot who cares about my character way more than I care about her and provokes a deadly fight, and an idiotic manchild who can't think shit through and never learns from his numerous screwups. It's quite uncanny. Except shockingly, their actions are much less understandable. It didn't really hit me until now, but damn. I didn't think it was possible to out-stupid that conflict Telltale, but you did it.

Jane at least had the ultimate intention of protecting Clementine and put herself into danger rather than others, and Kenny at least didn't have a lifelong familial bond with Jane and had had a rocky relationship with her from the start, not to mention he was actively provoked into assuming the worst.

And yet... it's still the best scene of the episode. Granted, its competition is pretty goddamn slim.

  • it's pretty hard to care about an inconsistent ass character whose only motivations really were to get the hell out of richmond and suck javi's dick. she is extremely inconsistent. for instance, she says "when i found out david had kids, i informed him that i'm not stepmother material" then in ep 3 she tells gabe "i never thought i wanted to be a mom until i met you." then in episode five, she cares more about a city that has no chance of survival than this son that she cares so much about. also, wouldn't david realistically care a lot about richmond, considering that he co-lead the fucking place? kate never even mentions her desire to leave in the fifth episode. but honestly, in my opinion, she is a dumbass thot with literally no substance at all.

  • edited June 2017

To be honest, David was a nutcase. It's a person you can't really handle without them finding an excuse to eventually put you to hospital. He's the type that go off as soon someone close to him dares to stand-up on him and point out he's the problem. Borderline asylum case.

  • Kate as a character was unbearable. The idea of her pushing and encouraging her ex husband's brother into being with her and acting in a mean, harsh outrage when he says it'd be wrong to be with his brother's wife is what makes her so unlikable for me

This. If Kenny also had a crush on a less overpowered Jane, but learned about her obsession with Clementine, it'd be at risk of becoming exactly the same.

I really don't care about David in part because of that.
