Sorry to tell you also but this is not true either. My grandfather just so happens to be from the Caribbean and my Aunty is black American and I know that they are full black because there is no trace of white in there ancestory.
Sorry to tell you, but very true. Just do a study about the genetics of Afro Americans.
You can find academic studies about this on the in… moreternet. None of them is 100% African.
The average is 80% African, 20% European. Some have higher or lower amount of white blood and some have significant amount of Asian or Native American blood.
But this is a different topic:)
And Beyonce has confirmed distant French and Native American ancestry by herself before...there you go with her light skin!
Clementine is just confirmed African American with pressumably some Asian blood.
Anyway, who cares what she is.
Clementine is cool anyway.
I always assumed like one of her grandparents were maybe Asian or something, but she was predominately black. It doesn't really matter, race rarely comes into play during the apocalypse.
Sean Vanaman actually confirmed back in 2013 that Clementine is mixed-race, although he didn't say what she is, exactly (at least, not in the particular source I found). Here's a link to the video of that presentation. Skip to about 36 minutes to hear Vanaman talk about Clem's mixed-race background, although I'd recommend watching the whole video as it contains some pretty interesting facts about the game.
In addition, the artist who created Clementine, Derek Sakai, based Clementine's physical design/appearance largely on his own little daughter, who is Asian. That might explain why many people think Clementine looks (or is) Asian/Asian-mixed. It's also interesting to note that much of Clementine's written character and personality were also taken from Sakai's daughter. Here's the source below.
Finally, if you google "derek sakai daughter," you'll find images of a little Asian girl who looks almost identical to Season 1 Clementine, which would further support the notion that Clementine does, indeed, have some Asian ancestry in her.
Based on these facts, I don't think it's likely that Melissa Hutchison is wrong in saying that Clem is black and Asian. In fact, I think it's rather likely that she's right, despite having no creative input.
It wasn't until Season 2 when I discovered that Clementine wasn't white. Can you really blame me though? Does Clementine look white in Season 1 to anyone else or is it just me?
She always looked more Asian to me.In S1 and S2 that is. But then again her hair is too curly to be Asian. Well at least I haven't seen an Asian with an afro.

Same here. Clementine's eyes always indicated to me that she was Asian, so that's what I thought she was. Her hair didn't change my perception, because I never saw it as an Afro. I simply thought it was the art style, similar to Katjaa's or Jolene's thick volume of hair (although these women had straight hair, not wavy like Clementine's). In fact, when Clementine takes off her hat, her hair doesn't really appear to be an Afro at all. It just appears unkempt, at least to me.
However, now that I know that Clem is part black and have seen her parents, I can see how others might perceive Clem's hair as an Afro, especially when she's wearing her hat.

She's based on one of the artists's daughter, who was japanese so... you can figure out yourselves.

Just a reminder, please keep discussions civil and level-headed or we might close the thread. Thanks.

Why do I bother clicking on this thread at this point?
