Did you found the creepy shack by luck?

Did we suppose to find the voodoo shack by luck? Did anyone use the map to find it?

I found it before I found the map.

I found it before I got the map. But it was by trial-and-error, not luck. :p

    Luck 3, logic nil.

Me too, think it was normal. The map was useful just to learn the password, I guess.
I didn't try to follow the map to find the shack, I'll try!

I didn't try but i thought that the footsteps were showing the path to the shack
    Anyone who tried?

The map is pretty redundant it seems!

so apparently I am the only person who used the map?

The map is there for story reasons and for people who might be afraid to wander (or unlucky) and never managed to explore there.

Really though you just need to keep walking up and/or left and you'll probably get there probably.

Probably not the only person in the world! Just in this thread. I saw plenty of reviews where a reporter used the map.

I solved two riddles just by pure luck:
The first by luck solution i still don't understand, maybe someone can explain this to me?

It's the second walking riddle in the jungle, with the map with the clouds. I had no idea what to go for and just went into the proper direction by luck when the cloud was the symbol to go for. For what do you need to listen or look for when the cloud appears, any idea?

The second one i got by pure luck as well, was the end with the doctor where he was screaming when turning the wind cycles. I only afterwards realised that maybe the way he screamed was the indication if a position was right or not. If that's the case, i find this a rather unlogical riddle.

One riddle i got stuck was getting on the ship. I simply had the idea to get the underwear cut slightly (of course armed with the ticking bomb), so that when your trying to move the bomb torwards the captain, half way the bomb drops down into the trousers so that finally the bomb explodes near the captain. I ran around quite some time, finding out that there is nothing for slightly cutting the pants. Oh well... :O)

Wow, looks like luck dominates this. But what should we expect? If anyone gets stuck, they're gonna wander around the jungle which would lead them to the shack eventually.

I actually got this one by examining the weather vane and, noticing that I could see a face that I hadn't put in any of the idols, recreated that one and it ended up being correct.

I solved both maze puzzles by trial and error. I figured out the second one involved the wind towards the end, but I thought the animal thing was pretty obtuse, it wasn't until I read the comments here I realised how it was supposed to be done. It was easier to just use trial and error.

Found the voodoo shack by luck when I examined the jungle for the very first time.

I found it by luck. It led to my favorite line tho:

"I am well informed that the bird is the word."
    XD

    It lead to mine too.
Is it pie? I hope it's pie! I love pie.

I also solved the second map wind puzzle by luck. I was trying to listen for the wind, lol.

Afterwards I found the weather vain and immediately realised that is how it should have been done.

I did the second one properly but the first one was totally trial and error

I found the shack by luck, but the other maps I followed properly. The first one took a couple of goes as I am on a laptop thumbpad and I kept going the wrong way..didn't realise about the keyboard controls. By the end it was OK, it felt like using a console analogue stick..in a weird way.

    Ah okay, thanks!
Actually the first jungle riddle with the ninja was a great one i quite enjoyed and D'Oro was a pirate i liked.

Hm. I used the map. Maybe I wasn't adventurous enough, but since I didn't get stuck on anything really before I had the map, there was no reason to go off and wander - so definitely good to have it in there I reckon.

I thought the map riddles were a little bit tedious (and obvious) actually, but it seems not everyone feels the same way! I thought the map riddle was great fun in the first MI, but by now it feels a bit like a way of extending the game without really doing much interesting. (The game was extremely enjoyable though, so don't take this as a major criticism. I wouldn't mind if there weren't any more map puzzles though - and I can do without another variation on 'insult sword-fighting' as well. :) )

I can see how people might be stumped by the wind map puzzle if they didn't notice the weather vane I guess.

Yes, the Marquis's groans can tell you which one to take (at least that worked for me). May seem illogical, but you can imagine that the right selection lines up with some mechanism on the inside, and perhaps that makes his position a bit more comfortable ...

Me too! Only thing the map was good for was the word. ;)

I didn't find it by luck. I found it by trying every option available and finding out how the "jungle" works

On the other side, as he knows that you're about to stop his wind machine by getting the right positions, he shouldn't be this pleased as well, dunno, it remains kind of not this logical, at least to me.

The game definately has better moments, like getting the pirate to the ninja, bombing the captain or commanding the monkey (btw. awesome scene, just a tiny bit too easy).

I found it by luck too, I think it was meant to be that way as it seems rather easy to find by luck, only the map is needed for the word but before that you get a few quick jokes with Guybrush trying to guess the word, like The Bird is the Word. :p
  • edited July 2009
I wouldn't say by luck, more of just thorough exploration of the jungle.
  • edited July 2009
I dont think it was supposed to be hidden. The map was basically just giving you the password.

I used the map. I didn't wander around in the jungle much at first because I thought I would just be going in circles if I wasn't following the sounds correctly. Of course later I figured out that wasn't the case. :D
  • edited July 2009
I found it after an inaccurate reading of the map(
I was listening for the sounds I heard in the middle of the forest as well as at the "doorways" before realizing that dropping the map in the wishing well apparently magically makes Guybrush know everything
, which led me off-path for a bit).

I found the shack by luck too. I thought the jungle was supposed to be a random puzzle as in Zak McKracken.
  • edited July 2009
I found it by accident as well. When I did get the map I thought it was pretty useless.

    Except for the password..

I found the shack while going through the jungle but I thought you needed to follow the steps in Davey's map for it to properly work.

Guess I'm in the minority. I used the maps for both puzzles, never really wandered aimlessly.

    What map?

I too, found the shack by pure luck, which was great as I got to experience some extra dialog options. I also did the parrot puzzle by pure luck, which made me sad as I had to replay the game to hear De Singe's extra dialog options.

It didn't even occur to me that the deep gut map was a map.
