A question about Season Three's episode: An Arrow On The Doorpost?

edited November 2015 in The Walking Dead

This is the episode where Rick and The Governor get together for a peace-talk.

Anyway, one thing about the episode that I do not understand, from a strategic perspective, is why did Rick bring Hershel with him?
Bringing Daryl makes sense, as Daryl is a capable fighter.
However, at this point, Hershel had already lost his leg!
So, why bring a cripple, to an event that could possibly turn violent?

What are your thoughts?

  • Maybe because Hershel is wise and diplomatic and could give Rick good advice?

Hershel is like Rick's mentor. Since this was going to be a 'peace-talk', it makes sense to bring him. Although he didn't end up being brought in to talk, the point still stands.
From a story standpoint it allowed each character to meet their 'alter-ego' e.g., Rick/Governor, Daryl/Martinez, Hershel/Milton.

  • I assumed it was because Hershel is a pretty diplomatic guy.

  • I thought the Governor would cut off Rick's hand in that episode. XD
