Ok - so who's going to buy TSOMI SE on 15th?

I am tempted, through all this new Monkey Island enthusiasm I have deliberately not replayed the first one again, this might be a nice time filler till we wait for Episode 2. Anyone? Ok who am I kidding, I'm not tempted, I am there at minute one, no idea on price yet though.

I'm getting it on my 360, because I don't need another copy on my PC.

As for price, it's 800 microsoft points on the 360 & $10 on steam.

The one reason i haven't played mi 1 as much as i would is just the missing voices tbh( voice imo gives so much to a game ) , and on the 15'th ill call in sick with the swine flue or smth just to finally play monkey island 1 as it should have been :)

ooh 10$ is very decent - apparently it's 2.5 gigs in size, I'm off with a wheel barrow down to ye olde 3.5 inch floppy store :)

"Missing" seems like the wrong choice of words, considering they weren't meant to be there. Somebody didn't just "lose" the vocal track.

Well i agree , it wasnt really missing when i played it when young , but i have to admit games with voices which came later sortof had a bigger replay value for "me" , although they wasnt really supposed to be there in MI 1, i was still missing guybrushe's voice when i replayed it :( . felt just that something was missing somehow. i love the first game tough ,and still think that with voices it would be much better with some pirate sounds :P, and we finally get it , i am in heaven :)

Actually, there was an audio track, only Ron Gilbert left it in his jeans and then threw them into the wash so they got all kind of gunky and misshapen. Seriously though, I want to get it just so I can assuage my guilt at downloading a pirated copy a couple of years ago.

I really hope there is a demo. The game might just be too demanding for my rusty old PC.

I'm definitely buying this on steam on release day. I'm so happy that Monkey island is back, I have just completed Episode 1 of tales, and I think it's worthy sequel to my ALL TIME FAVORITE adventure game series. Of course I was a bit sad when it ended (I'm not very good at being patient) :D
Anyway, I bought Monkey Island on cd in the early 90's and I simply gonna have to own the remake! Here's hoping that the boys at LucasArts will remake part 2 also (and maybe Fate of Atlantis too) :D

I'm sorry, but that is a hilarious thought. I mean, if a 19 year old game doesn't work on your pc ... I know what you mean, but it cracked me up none the less. (Although I doubt LucasArts are going to pimp up the game to that extent. At least, I don't see why they would bother  Then again ...)

I'm picking it up, and actually it's the only reason I haven't picked up Tales yet. It's been something like 10 years since I played any Monkey Island game, so I figure I will start off with the first game to give me a nice refresher for Tales :)

Though at this point I should probably just *buy* Tales and hold onto it until after SoMI:SE.

What's a little sad is that I do still have a CD of the original version I *could* boot up, but then I don't want to spoil SE! :D

Those HD graphics make all the difference - there's no way I'll get it running on my humble MacBook :(

OS: Windows XP® or Windows Vista®
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Memory: 256 MB RAM, 512 MB for Vista
Graphics: 128 MB with Shader Model 2.0 capability
    DirectX®: 9.0c (March 2009)
Hard Drive: 2.5GB free hard drive space
Sound: DirectX® 9.0c compliant sound card
    Controller support: Xbox 360 controller

I'll buy it, it looks great.

Man, I've played The Secret of Monkey Island so many times...but I think I can spare $10 for my old friend...I might even buy both versions just so it makes more money.

Not sure tough , but they'll probably have a res setting of 800x600 etc and with those specs and how the game still is 2.5d and not much extreme 3d mojobojo i would be amazed if you couldnt run the game , hmm maybe you got a bit to little ram tough( xp shugs up about 200 mb's atleast at startup )
  • edited July 2009
Gosh, I'd love to, but my laptop's sound is kaput right now. It'll have to wait until I can find a solution.

definitely if I get my 360 back on time as its been rescheduled to return on 15th (thanks UPS!!!) if it doesn't turn up I'll get it on PC.

Here's hoping! Those specs are what Steam quote to be able to run it, and the bit that makes me think I'll struggle is the graphical requirements as I've only got 64mb and an Intel GMA at that. I guess I'll have to wait for the "possible" iPhone release. At least if my computer isn't powerful enough, my phone might be :p

Definitely downloading this to Xbox on Wednesday. I am so psyched!
  • edited July 2009
I think I'll probably go for the Xbox version too, assuming the controls hold up okay (and I don't see why they wouldn't). I prefer the console experience, and the achievements give it the edge :)
  • edited July 2009
quick question... how long is TSOMI compared to say, curse?
  • edited July 2009
    Count me in. XBLA version.

See, I considered that for the widescreen (I don't have a widescreen monitor) and the fact that I have a nice 50" Plasma TV to play it on in HD. However, I just can't see playing this without mouse controls. Games ported to consoles with mouse mapped to an analog stick never work as well. So I'm grabbing it on PC.

Though I will say, the first graphical adventure game I ever played was Maniac Mansion on the NES :P

I might.. haven't decided yet. On one hand, I HATE the new art style.. but on the other, I LOVE the voice acting aspect.. oh man, i'm torn.

I want to know when these abbreviations got all messed up. What happened to SMI, MI2, CMI, EMI, and now TMI? That's how we used to roll in the IRC days.
  • edited July 2009
I am gonna buy this the first second it comes out.
Also I hope this catches on so they'll make a remake of MI2 as well, that would be so awesome.
I just finished replaying CMI and it's still my favorite game ever.
The music, characters, story, jokes,...all so perfect.

    That's why I hate "abb's".

I'm definatly going to buy it. It seems that the whole 'Adventure games are cool' thing is taking off. I was soooooo happy to hear that they were bringing out Broken Sword: Directors cut (or whatever it was called ) but it only came to DS, I don't have one, but was tempted to just to help prove that adventure games do work when they are done properly.

p.s. I have been with Telltale since bone, so they are supported by default lol
  • edited July 2009
Yeah definitely, I'm looking forward to it. Nothing beats the original and some of the voices in the trailer clashed with the ones in my head (LOL) but it should be good.

Not a fan of Guybrush's hair though.

it also came out on the Wii as well. And I've heard rumours of a possible PC version at some point.

I'm definitely buying it the second it comes out. In fact, LA could have had my money a month ago, if they'd opened it up to preorder.

    Signature. :)
  • edited July 2009
Not sure. It won't run on my notebook anyway (3 GHz required? Oh my...) After I learned that, I bought Sam & Max first. Guess I'll wait with the SE. I will need a faster computer first with a better graphics card and stuff.
(I wonder why the specs are that high - the graphics doesn't look better than in TMI...)
  • edited July 2009
I figured it out on another board.... They need all the extra power to animate all of Guybrush's extra hair in that game.
  • edited July 2009
I think I will have to buy both!
  • edited July 2009
Probably not. As much as I love the game, I have beaten it a ridiculous amount of times. It would probably take me less than an hour to plow through the special edition. But maybe I'll be able to convince one of my friends to get it, as they have never played any MI games.
  • edited July 2009
Yup will definitely get it but maybe not straight away... exams :(
  • edited July 2009
Hmm... if I am interested in getting my paws on the special edition, but I do not have a XBOX360 or no access to Steam, am I screwed?
  • edited July 2009
I'll be buying it as soon as it's released. Judging by the screenshots and gameplay video, it seems to have legitimately enhanced the classic magical, spooky, piratey visual style and atmosphere superbly.
  • edited July 2009
PC version for me. And if I had the Xbox console, XBLA too.
If only they do a Wii version, OMG!!

 Are those really the system requirements? I don't think I'm going to be able to run it... :(
