How did you come across The Walking Dead Game? What did it lead to?

I was just wondering, how did everyone discover TWDG? Did you find on your own and decide to give it a try, were you already a fan of TTG at the time or did you watch a Youtuber play it and got into the game? And did your discovery of this game lead you to anything? Did you start liking choice-based games more, or started becoming a fan of TTG or perhaps it lead you to become a fan of the TV Show? - I only started watching the show near the end of Season 4 xD

As for me - In 2012 I was a huge fan of Pewdiepie and I discovered the existence of The Walking Dead Game on his Channel, I watched his playthrough and thought the game was really interesting, this game was truly marvelous and despite it costing 70 dollars in retail when it came out with Game of the Year Edition, I still bought it and thought it was worth it, it's thanks to this game that I became a huge fan of Choice-Based Gaming - in fact, it's my favorite Genre of gaming I suppose lol, it got me into Mass Effect, Dragon Age and I'm even starting to try some of TTG's older games now like Back to the Future - which is really fun in my opinion. I guess you could also say that it's thanks to this game that I've devoted so much time to gaming forums, I believe the TTG Forums was the first Forum I ever joined and boy was I an ignorant little Teenager at the time lol

  • Can O' Worms here for me! Had ended 7yr relationship and was dead broke from moving costs! So I picked up the demo and as I got my life back together, I bought season pass and played this wonderful game. I had seen season one of the show @ the time but nothing further. Liked TTG game world so much I revisted the show(My Ex hates Zombies) This game may have litterally saved my life. Worked through so many emotions with this series! Sounds nuts but at its core TWD is all surving against impossible odds! The game rocks!

  • I think I was watching a Watchmojo countdown and it had TWDG on it, which got me interested in it.

Th first time I heard about The Walking Dead Game was when my classmate was playing the game on IOS at school. The time was when Season 1 Finale was released, I think I came across it on December 2012. This game is the reason I became a Telltale fan. I'm playing all their games in the future.

  • I only remember it being shortly before I joined the community, in early December 2013 I think. Don't really remember how I got into it, but I'm glad I did it, because I can't imagine a life without Telltale anymore.

  • Found it through PewDiePie when I was 12 (2012. PS, don't kill me).

It was just after Episode 3 of Season 1 came out, so around September.

A friend recommended it to me and the first thing he told me when I bought it was that Lee dies, what a great friend am I right guys? Anyway this didn't ruin the experience for me as it remains one of the best game I've played.

  • I'd spoiler your comment, mate.

  • stanburdman played twau and i found out from there

Found out when it was announced on some news site and was annoyed cause it wasn't a "first person shooter which would have been so much better hurr durr". Watched a YouTuber play Episode 1 and then 2 as they came out, then finally bought the game myself. It proceeded to become my Game of the Year for 2012.

  • I was watching The Walking Dead show on AMC, when a commercial for the yet unreleased Season Two came on (so I guess this would be around November, 2013).

I remember that I thought it looked interesting, but didn't actually look into it. However, a few months later, in my school's library, I saw someone watching a play through of Season One on Youtube. The gameplay was pretty simplistic and the story looked interesting, so I decided to pick it up. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

  • Saw the announcement of The Walking Dead by Telltale on a gaming website.

Was a fan of the TV series and comic series for a while, heard Telltale was making a game based on it. Only real experience with Telltale was through the Poker Night series, although I knew about Sam and Max and a few of their other titles. However, the details about it were already interesting to me. I was already a fan of narrative-based games, and everything about TWD sounded good. It sounded like they really cared about making a story that was true to the source material of the franchise.

Eventually, the first 15 minutes of episode 1 leaked online, from the beginning of the game up to Lee going inside Clementine's house. I was already hooked off those 15 minutes alone, ended up buying the game on the 360, been playing every episode as they released since then, although I switched to the PC version just before NGB came out (similarly, I've been watching every episode as they aired, every comic issue as they've come out since 100).

It's climbed the ranks as one of my favorite games of all time, and has left a hell of an impression on me, to say the least. There's very few games that have stuck in my mind as fondly as TWD has (among those are Bioshock, and L4D, because I used to play it with my friends all the fucking time)

  • I like Zombie games, and most of them are not fun. I used to be a fan of the TV show, until Season 2, 3 and 4 pretty much proved it was going to be a pointless run on story. The last season I couldn't stomach even finishing watching it.

I bought the first game a long time ago, I kept dying, I was horrible at quick time button mashing style gameplay. I dunno what happened but a few weeks ago I decided to reinstall the game, played it and never had a problem, became hooked, cried a few times... enjoyed almost every moment of it.. then I bought Season 2. Never looked back, I played through Season 2 three times now. Mind this was just over the past month.

  • I don't exactly remember how I came across the game at first. I remember thinking it was dumb XD I didn't pay much attention to S1 at first and didn't really care tbh. I always watched the show though. I also remember reading about the characters on The Walking Dead wiki. Never captured my interest. When S2 came out, I remember it was on my recommendations. The mid-season finale of S4 of the TV ended, so I was pretty bored. What the hell, let me give the game a try. I believe I watched PewDiePie play All That Remains and I was hooked. After that, I watched playthroughs of S1 and I was captivated. So, I pretty much came across it when S2 was released...so late December 2013ish. I learned not to judge a book by its cover after this.

  • There was a time (close to TWD's release) when I was looking at all the jurassic park games that had been released to see if anything would interest me since I love this franchise. I discovered the game Telltale made and decided to give it a try. Then I kept checking their website until the day I saw that they were going to release TWD game and I decided I would give it a try too and I did well because it has become one of my favorite games!

Discovered TWDG when The First Episode of Season 1 was free, instantly fell in love with it.

  • saw it by chance on a YT playthrough, thought it looked average, then saw it again and saw more of the story elements instead of action and decided to buy it on import.

  • Interesting story.

It was around sometime late April 2012. I was on my netbook just surfing. I was checking post apocalyptic zombie games on wikipedia. Saw a Walking Dead game entry, I still was trying to clear the tv show out of my memory. I don't know if it was boredom or just for the heck of it, I clicked on the entry and saw it had no connection to the show but showing the comic motif. It sounded good. Went to Telltale Games website and saw the preview, my fascination peaked and finally found a walkthrough on Youtube and the rest is history. For a simple point and click game, it blew my mind. Without this game, I wouldn't have discovered this universe and learn more about the comic series.

For the beginning I liked Clementine from the start. There was something about her that was unique.

Since then, I've become a faithful fan, singing the games first season praises. Followed the entire run, even learned more about the comic verse. Even fan fiction stories.
Urged my creative talents, even tried to do a third season of my own last year, but I voided the plan cause I felt what I came up with could not hold a candle to the series. But I'll try after the third season, if I like what I see.

I believe (and hope) that series lasts a long while and continue Clementine's journey.

  • I use to download evey demo I could get my hands on on the Xbox marketplace. I tried it and thought it was o.k., but thought it was slightly racist playing as a black guy going to jail (I knew nothing lol). Then saw youtubers galore playing it and gave it another shot. I was very satisfied how fleshed out and developed the story became as I played.

  • I had already been a fan of Telltale for a few years before Walking Dead, so I had bought the game for that reason basically. In the time since, it's been unreal to see Telltale jump from being a smaller indie studio to becoming a large indie studio the size of Valve or Gearbox that now gets to work with big franchises like Batman, Marvel, Game of Thrones, etc.

  • From The Loading Bar on Spill.com when that was around. These guys were doing a playthrough of the first hour of TWDG Season 1 [I wish it was still around because it was really funny from what I remember] and after the hour was up, I checked out the rest of the episodes from there.

  • Came across an article in a Game Informer sometime before the release of Season 1 that showed them trying to barricade themselves in a room. After reading the plot synopsis that'd Lee would be an ex-con whose sole purpose would be to protect a little girl, I was sold on the entire game.

  • I found out about the game by accident i heard about walking dead survival instinct a long time ago so i searched it first game that showed up was walking dead season 2 so i search season 1 downloaded it loved it one of my favorite games of all time

  • I was watching Youtube video's of TWD TV show and kept seeing pic's of some cartoon looking thing so eventually I clicked on one to see what the hell it was. I don't really remember who;s playthrough it was, but it was the first 15 mins of S1E1. when it was done, I immediatly bought it on Xbox and I've been here ever since. I've never missed a single episode of the TV show and I've gotten Every episode of Telltales game the day it's been released just like i'll get Michonne the moment it's available.

  • Dashie brought me into TWD. It was actually before the DLC came out and I enjoyed watching the game. I wish I can get Season 3 however...

I heard around about it, but I avoided it because I thought it was based on the TV show at the time. And video games based on TV shows tend to blow chunks. There was this YouTube channel that did "Game movies" and he did all 5 episodes of the Walking Dead. I watched the first two episodes, really enjoyed it, and then went out and bought the game for myself. Glad I did too. I think I beat all 5 episodes in like two days because I found it so absorbing. So I guess, I have that channel to thank for introducing me to one of my favorite games of all time.

  • Found out about the game after watching the show. I was looking through youtube and found the walkthrough, watched it and will be buying the game in a couple of days. Then will buy S2, and of course TWD : Michonne and then S3...................

  • Dad downloaded it summer of 2013. I have no idea why, and he has no memory of it. I needed something to do. Now here I am.

I downloaded it myself on the appstore, was like " hmmm this game looks intersting let's give it a try" played the first episode it was fun! I Don't want to pay for the rest of the episodes I just downloaded the full game on pc and started Ep 2 and I fell in love with the story. Plus I liked story- choice based games.

  • It's bad that he didn't continue.

  • It was a free game for Xbox Live Gold. The Best one that they have ever given :)

  • I rented season 1 from redbox because I was getting sick and I needed something to pass the time while I was in bed. I couldn't stop playing it. I finished the game in one day. I just couldn't stop. Then time passed and I forgot about it again. Then I'm on YouTube and I see season 2 so I watch the rad brad play it completely through and I couldn't stop watching it. I forgot about again. Then I saw it was the free game of the month on ps plus. So I downloaded it and bought season 1. And I've probably played them both about 5 times and they are my favorite games ever made. I cannot wait for season 3.

  • I've been playing telltale games since Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People.

  • I know right? Dude was funny as shit.

My bad on late reply. Ya boi on Vacation atm.

  • Pardon my english

My brother (9 years old then) borrowed the game from a friend, and I installed it in the pc. i had to go on a trip with school that night so i told him "let me play it first". And i finished episode 1 so anxious for playing the rest of the game

  • In October when Wolf Among Us first came out, I heard about it and played it. I told a friend about it and he told me to try Walking Dead.

  • I found the game by Telltale when it first came out. And then later I started watching the show.

  • I found it through pewdiepie as we'll but it was season two episode two when I found it at first I had no idea what it was and hated it but then I had no clue it was about zombies cause I love things like that and one day I went back and fell in love with the game so that game is currently top of favorites in my book

Found it through PewDiePie when I was 12 (2012. PS, don't kill me). It was just after Episode 3 of Season 1 came out, so around September.
