TWD: Michonne - Episode 1 Discussion **Spoilers**

I didn't see our typical spoiler filled episode discussion thread. Here is one now. Mods can take over or remove if there already is one. Let us begin.

  • For some reason I didn't see a lot of people say they actually liked the episode. I personally enjoyed it thoroughly. Haven't read much of the comics, but I've watched all of the series except for the last season and I can surely say I'd pick TTG's Michonne any day of the week. I absolutely loved her. I don't know if I like the episode so much because it's the first TWD experience in so long or what, but I'm satisfied. I've one question, that has probably been asked a thousand times, but for some reason I couldn't find it anywhere. The faq said no old save files were required, but that doesn't explicitly say you can't use them, so I just want to be sure. Can I use season 1+2 saves here (for example if this miniseries connects to season 3) or does this one count as a separate game? I'm sorry if I'm annoying with this question, thanks!

  • This is a seperate game. :)

  • I loved it. All of the plot, most of the characters, the graphics were also good, the only problem is the length, but it seems like they'll release the second episode in like a month or so.

I'd pick quantity over length errday.

  • Thank you!

  • watched a playthrough on YT ,as i had no interest in the Michonne character or the comics but i was very pleasantly surprised,it's a little short and has a sort of Carver type situation version 2 but they were the only flaws, the setting on a boat is fantastic, the characters are likable in your crew, graphics are good, impressed!

Overall, I'm mixed on my feelings of this new miniseries. The animations are as smooth as they've ever been, and the music is pretty good, but everything else I'm kind of down on. Some parts felt rushed, and some of the characters were either too cliche or too one-dimensional for me. The choices didn't seem to have much of an impact, but that's normal for Telltale. The ending didn't leave me in much suspense, and I didn't feel a connection to any of the characters. Overall, it wasn't bad by any means, but it's definitely an episode I'll forget in about two weeks. 5.5/10

  • Well, let's keep the discussions going.

I enjoyed it. I like the cinematic effect for the QTEs. It is a nice little touch. Granted, I wish we could have gotten more attached to Greg before he died. Don't take this the wrong way, but Michonne seems more visually appealing in the game than in the comic. I don't know if that's intentional or not, a visual effect from making 2D characters 3D, or me just being picky. Also, and this is me being very, very, very picky, but Sam visually looks older than a teenager assuming that she is supposed to be a teen. It's rather weird. But like I said, that is me being extremely picky.

Did anyone else think the orange coat guy from monroe had a cool model?

I dunno how much effort did Telltale apply on this series but it didn't convince me.
I mean, the graphics improvement is really efficient, makes the game prettier and with the right amount of cartoonish imersion.
But, on the other hand, the story was really dull. There were sometimes during the gamplay that I caught myself yawning because the pace was really slow and boring. I mean, Michonne is a great character but i think they didn't use her very well, it lacked some story dept. And the overall story script is not well worked, there is lack of cohesion between characters and I felt that the only character that you develop some sort of empathy is Michonne, the rest of them is kinda disposable.
I hope it gets better on the next episodes, but right now, I'm disappointed.

    5/10

  • Im rather fond of Pete. I dont find him disposable.

The beginning (intro) of Episode 1 is the best I've experienced in a while. It was pretty badass. Song choices are great, looks better than the previous TWD games, runs smooth, but it was a little short. Besides it being a little short, I think it's a great start, and I just love playing as Michonne.

  • I enjoyed it a lot. I had no expectations, just confidence that Telltale will put out a quality game. I also love playing as Michonne and getting inside her head. And that intro, ive been singing the song to myself all day.

  • If you are coming into this thinking you will change things then you will probably not like it. This is way more linear than anything TTG has made tbh.

I otherwise really enjoyed this episode except for the terrible use of quick time events.

Up until now Telltale has been constantly improving their cinematic story telling formula. Wolf Among Us was a prime example of things done right where you could actually click at multiple points during fight scenes. Kick the knee? Punch in the face? Poke an eye? Sure, just click there and the fight sequence continues and it feels you are actively involved in the fight rather than just watching it.

In Michonne Episode 1 it felt like they had reverted to their notorious quick time event mechanics from the Jurassic Park game. Not only were fight sequences just about tapping a specific button at a given time but the key assignment didn't even make any sense. Want to cut the zombie's head? Tap E. Tap E again. "Oh, so tap E to swing the katana! I get it! Wait, now the game tells me to hit Q to do the exact same action... Now it's E again... And now a down arrow... Wtf"

It's like they don't want you to focus on the action like in previous Walking Dead games but rather spend half your time focusing on which random key picture pops on the screen next.

  • I liked we had huds again.

  • This.

  • Agreed. This is more of a episodic adventure into the mind of Michonne. You are more exploring her personalities through a story rather than tailoring a story path of your own choices. I see the game more as a giant hub inside Michonne's head. if that makes any sense.

  • Been waiting since November for this. A lot of people have asked me "Was it worth it?" My response...is always hell yeah. Kind of disappointed though that they didn't leave us off with a good cliffhanger. I love a good twist. The guy that put a gun to his head, I didn't even like. So not much of a twist there.

  • Anyone else realize that guy you questioned will always say the opposite of what you said, no matter what. I started over on that part so many times just to see what different outcomes there are.

  • That's EXACTLY what I was thinking! It was like a prison that you work your way up to the top. And the leader was also a psychopath just like Carver.

  • Yeah, there was also too much of telling you what to do. Where you're playing in the story and it tells you to push certain buttons. What happened to finding unique ways to be a badA? I mean, we could've chosen which body part to slash, kick before slashing, looking for weapons, finding ways out of predicaments, and a lot more we could've been able to do.

  • The beginning of the trailer where her kids are saying "mommy, where are you" creeped me the heck out. It just sounded so echoey in my head and spooky.

  • Glad I didn't try that then! I sort of figured that anything you said would come back to bite you in the ass, cause someone was bound to tell the wrong "story" so I just glared a lot ...and maybe my crew won't be hunted down and killed if Pete keeps quiet as well? But when do we get that lucky?
