Do you play with the subtitles?

Nearly every youtube video I watch of TWDG the player has the subtitles on which makes me wonder if they are all deaf or something?

Do you use them? If so then why?

I use them because English is not my language and I can barley hear what they say.

  • i use subtitles a lot in games i play. in case i can't hear what's being said and it keeps my focus, believe it or not. :p

Yes, I do. I hate playing without them. I honestly don't think I have a reason, it just bugs me to not have them on. Most YouTube videos have them on just because of their varied audiences.

  • I play with them just because sometimes voiced dialogue will be skipped, but the line will still show up in the subs. Also because it's just nice to have.

  • I use them because I am hungarian, and I can't get always what they say. It's easier to read and listen at the same time.

  • I don't use them because I hate reading ahead and they distract me.

Also youtubers usually keep subtles on because viewers may want them.

  • So do you use them for watching TV as well?

  • I always use them in games with voiced cutscenes and all that, so that I'm sure that I don't mishear or just completely miss dialogue. I don't want to be playing an RPG and hear "go to the tavern" when they actually say "go to the cavern". It doesn't happen often, but it's worth keeping them on just in case. I also watch a lot of subbed anime, so it feels weird not to have them on in voiced games.

  • I use them because English is not my native language and it's very likely that I wouldn't understand everything without them.

  • On Netflix, but not regular TV. I guess it's just something that I've grown to use without thinking.

  • I think video games are really the only time I ever use subtitles, and I don't know why.

  • I use them so I can play the game on mute and still understand what's going on.

  • Then you must find out why.

  • I must embark on an emotional cross country journey across North America with several varied and differently emotionally scarred people to discover why and be at peace with myself.

I grew up playing adventure games with subtitles, so I always turn the subtitles on in Telltale's games when I play on PC or Mac. It just feels weird to me if I don't.

When I play on TV on a video game console though, sometimes I do play with them off, to get a more immersive experience.

  • I usually do. It helps if I missed anything so I can look back quickly to read them.

  • I always do just in case I miss something. I find it to really weird if I don't have them on.

  • Im not deaf but I always use subtitles when I can just for the surety of knowing what the characters are saying.

  • My first language is not English so I play with subtitles because reading English is easier for me than listening to someone speaking English.

  • Same.

  • Yeah, I do. My memory craps out from time to time and when speed reading the choices I have a little reminder on what I am answering. I don't want to miss anything.
