I don't think, its BS at all that they survived that long.
They had a huge house, seperated from the rest of the world, and when the apacoalyps started they build a huge wall.
Also John must knew the area very well, and it was surrounded by lots of forrest so he could hunt their own food.

the fact that anyone in that family and group, minus i think Patricia was her name, survived that long in the apocalypse is total B.S.
Norma was way more of the independent. Her only flaw (in our eyes, mind you) was that she trusted and loved her brother too much. How do people not just see Norma and Sam (and even Michonne in some sense) as 2 sides of the same coin. Even Randall and Greg could be seen as very similar (not personality but in the sense of the coin analogy).
While Norma and Randall dealt with abusive relationships (namely there father. Unlike John) that showed them what the world "really was", while Sam and Greg were sheltered most their life and when they got out into the real world, they reacted much differently. It's like Randall and Norma saw the world for the shit show that it is, while Greg and Sam see it for what it was.
I honestly am at the point where I don't think they're really are bad people in this game, but we did create the antagonists in Randall and Norma. We don't even know if Randall actually killed all those people on the ferry for maniacal reasons. We don't even know if Sam lied to us the whole time, as she definitely has more than one of Norma's bags.
We really just got caught up and people died. That is The Walking Dead. No ones good no ones bad, shit just happens. You gotta just survive somehow.
