So Gared is going to have a lot of catching up to do...
Specifically when he hears about Jon Snow becoming Commander of the Nights Watch, his tolerance of the Free Folk, his betrayal and murder by Olly and Co and his subsequent resurrection through Red priest magic. This is happening just after Gared himself has to fight off Wights and see a dead Finn get resurrected as one and then finding the North Grove and its vaguely explained supernatural properties.
How do you think he's going to react to the craziness that happened through Seasons 5 and 6?
Well that is assuming he doesn't find another way to sneak back into the North, I really do wonder if he'll ever meet Jon Snow again and learn more about the Others.
Do you think Gared could end up fighting the Others?

I think someone from the nights watch would be like "Gared tuttle isn't it? I've heard 'bout you. You're a traitor. You were supposed to be beheaded but You escaped, Jon snow told me about you..I wont let you run away."
Your lack of spoiler tags disturbs me.
Hmm, well... Assuming Gared meets Jon again by the time of S6, they'd have a lot to share. Jon would have likely heard about the fall of the Forresters and how his uncle (determinantly) was a traitor and inform him of such things. Depending on your relationship with Jon, he might console Gared, or think it must "run in the family". Either way, he'd probably think it was right of Gared to run, considering what he himself just went through, ie, getting betrayed and stabbed.
Since Jon seems to be comfortable talking about things to Gared, he might tell him about his own experiences, including being resurrected. Gared, depending on your choice possibly, can be sympathetic towards Jon, or leery considering he was just traveling with a woman who controls the dead via blood magic. As a whole, he might feel guilty for not being there to aid Jon when he needed, or might get self-righteous that he had to do what he needed to save his House. (Again, possibly determinant.) Again, depending on the circumstances, Jon might understand Gared's position, or call him on his lack of loyalty or something to that effect. Nonetheless, he'd acknowledge it doesn't matter anymore since he's left the Watch as well and has no say what Gared does.
Gared could also share his knowledge of the North Grove and might be able to use it to aid Jon, provided Jon is willing to accept what Josera and Elsera have to offer. (If they're still here by this time.)
These are some possibilities I've considered thinking about the chance they may meet again. But who really knows if that'll even happen. o.o
I like the way you're thinking. I'm hoping that Jon could atleast team up with Gared and get back to westeros to Avenge the Starks.
Well, I'm hoping my Gared stays at the North Grove and just avoids this all together. (Unlikely, but... y'know)
Still, if they do meet again, Jon better not be angry at him for leaving, because I'm not willing to deal with hypocrisy! I think it'd be smart to just avoid the Wall all together, honestly.
I'd be there for a Gared and Jon team-up!
Wow. Gared fighting wights and all happens in season 4, in the middle end of it. He ain't see that, exceot, if he stays two seasons in it.
you guys are crazy theres no way they would push the story out that far they have to play right after they left off which would not be season 6
Jon will die by the end of the season, so no I don't think they are going to meet up
I left him behind. So do you think he still is alive?
its prob one of those things that will never be talked about again which is why i brought him with me even though finn was a bully at least give his story meaning
That would be the most ideal thing for me.
It would be a mutual benefit as well. Gared could offer his services in Jon's fight to liberate Winterfell from the Boltons. This not only gets rid of a common enemy for them, but disempowers the Whitehills. Also, I'm sure Jon in return would help to restore the Forresters to their former glory once everything is said and done.
Of course, this is all assuming the Night's King and his army of the dead isn't knocking on the door by then. =O
He'll either be forced to leave the North Grove, or be made to stay there. Really depends what's more to be done here.
I actually do expect Jon to lash out a little at Gared if they do happen to bump into each other again, especially if it's somewhere in S6. Jon's been through a lot and right now is no doubt suffering major trust issues. He may be angry at Gared for leaving when he needed him, but soon after he's calmed down, he'll come back and apologize, seeing that the Watch betrayed Gared about as much as they betrayed him, and he should have protected Gared better (if you were going self-defense). Or alternatively that he's no better considering all the things he's done against the Watch's rules and here he is ready to defend his family. Then they'll maybe have a heart-to-heart and be friends again.
Well, that's the ideal approach, I suppose.
Cotter said he grew up near Hardhome so that means Sylvi probably did too.
What if she and Gared decide that the twins, bear and soldiers aren't enough to retake Ironrath and go to Hardhome to find some of Sylvi's old friends and family... only to be involved in the battle with the Night's King?
Just a thought.
I was hoping Sylvi would stay and help Gared and the twins.
