A little comedy never hurt anybody

Something I always appreciated about Telltale's version of Robert Kirkman's world was the sense of humor. From the banter between Lee and Duck in S1 to Clem and Luke's exchanges in S2, to Omid's puns and Kenny's little witticisms, Telltale has always been careful to bring a little levity to the table before things get SO dark, the player simply turns off the television. I hope they'll continue that approach in season 3.

  • I appreciated the Witty Jokes by Omid.

  • "Did you hear about the kittens that took over a ship? It was a MEWTINY"

I still love that joke from Michonne's episode 3. So I agree about the humor.

I like the occasional humour in a dark situation, Clementine admitting to licking the salt lick and putting bugs on Duck's pillow was funny and in season 2 the scene with the raccoon was also a fun and funny moment "I'd eat the shit out of that raccoon" :P.

  • Chuck saying he'd given his last chocolate bar to Ben and seeing him munching on it was funny, and like Ozzy said with the salt lick thing too XD I loved numerous different dialogue outcomes for Clementine climbing up the ladder too as well, like the [look down] option. It is good to have jokes every once and a while.

I don't know, Rhys got hurt quite a lot in TFTB.

    Ehhhh...

In something like The Walking Dead, I'd be more appreciative of morbid humor that more easily lines up with the story being told.

I agree the faint "humorous" (I didn't find them all that funny to be perfectly frank save a few little lines here and there) moments didn't subtract, but rather enforced a slightly lighter mood when appropriate. Which I'm fine with.

I'm still more on the side of humor needing to parallel the content being addressed in the story...

One of my favorite films of all time is Trainspotting. A film whose writers I greatly admire for knowing when and where to slip small snippets of casual, yet dark moments of humor into an otherwise fairly harsh subject matter of heroin addiction. Plenty of great examples of humor done well enough yet never breaking the impact of the tone. In The Company of Men is another dark comedy I love for that same reason.

Levity is important, but only when it's called for. I couldn't imagine the slap to the face Funny Games or Irreversible directly give to the audience would be as well delivered if the rapist from the Irreversible had a "gag" or one of the men hunting him had a reinforced semi-comedic line to more easily comfort the audience.

But I'm ranting now... I agree, somewhat.

  • A little comedy never hurt anybody

Omid makes a joke about the baby's name
    dies

    Berto jokes about a MEWTINY
    dies

Michonne stays serious and boring the whole game
    has plot armor

    So... no.
    (sorry for bad english)

  • Some dark comedy always hurt at least one person

  • Yeah, even in the comics we got some funny dark humor. We need just a little something to put a smirk on peoples faces. It helps your audience get attached to the characters in the story. IMO Omid is a do, Reggie is a don't.

  • Yeah, and the BRO scene in Atlas Mugged was awesome. ;)

  • I agree. Although I didn't really care for Omid's type of humor simply because he was trying to be funny, or lighten the fucking tone, as he would put it. But his "My leg is fucked", was pretty funny.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Omid was trying too hard. He wasn't as bad as Reggie mind you, but he was in that ball park. I was actually kind of glad when Christa snapped at him in the attic.

  • Pete: That was almost us.

    Michonne:

Pete: Guess I should've kept my mouth shut, ah?

  • Just in my opinion, stuff like this feels way too forced.

And Robert and the team totally overdid it in #154.

  • I love the humor in the game, even in the worse or more tense parts of it. I'm glad that they don't come up in dire choice moments, though.

I feel that some of Negan's lines are going a little too overboard lately. I think Robert Kirkman is really trying force Negan to say "Negany" things half the time that just end up not sounding natural at all. Regardless, I still find him one of the most interesting characters.

  • I'm sure that they will.

  • I do admit sometimes it goes a little overboard.

But of those two I posted, I think the second one is pretty funny regardless of kind of unoriginality, given the circumstances of that situation.

The ones that always make me laugh:

    "I'm not an asshole!"
    "You callin' me an asshole??"

"You ah, know how to pick a lock?"
"Oh you are not sayin' what I THINK you're sayin??"
"Sorry man, I'm from Florida, crazy shit just comes out of my mouth!"

    "I uh...gotcha a juice box."

    "Maaaan...FUCK Nick."

"I dunno what the fuck yer sayin', but I know it's bullshit!"

"I don't give a fuck if their make-a-wish what a fuckin' BOAT RIDE.

    "AGGGGH! SHOT MAH DICK OFF!"

"Come on, lil chickens. Let's get to peckin'."

    (Ben shamefully eats candy.)

    "Did you lick it??"
    "..........I dunno.........."

    Literally all of Omid's lines.

    "I'LL RING THEIR MOTHERFUCKIN' BELL."
    "Good one..."

    "Hey, Ben."
    "Yeah?"
    "See ya."
    "...Yeah..."

  • Actually I was thinking it was possible this Javier character would be a more light-hearted character in comparison to Clementine's more serious nature (which I'll expect she'll be like after all these years we've followed her story), would make for an interesting dynamic.
