Who's more brutal - Rick or Joel? And which do you like better?

edited June 2016 in The Walking Dead

I'm referring to TV Rick. And Joel is obviously from The Last Of Us.

I just started thinking about these two characters, and I just started wondering which one is more violent, and more brutal?

I'm reminded of scenes where Rick does this.

And where Joel does this.

And both are good at brawling.

But all in all, who is more violent - more brutal - more deadlier?

I personally think Rick is, although Joel is not to far behind him. And I think if these two fictional characters were to go at it, I think it would be a fight to remember.

As far as whom I like more, that's a hard one. I like them both. I think I probably like Joel better, because he is more of an average man, unlike Rick who had tons of special training before the apocalypse.

  • Joel hands down.

  • I've done similar posts, but I decided to mix it up a little bit. So I decided ask this question, as well as ask which character people like better.

  • Joel is ruthless.

  • This is unfair, but Joel.

  • Why is it unfair?

    This is unfair, but Joel.

  • Well, it depends on if they're fighting alone or not. If you remember back in TWD S4 E8, Rick got in a fight with the Governor. The only reason he's still alive is because Michonne stabbed the Governor in the back, so...I'm pretty sure Joel would crush Rick's neck like an aluminum can.

    Joel.

Rick, be it comic or show, can be a pretty violent dude no doubt, but he only gets notably violent when he's pushed to the edge: his family is in danger, his friends are in danger, his own life is in danger, his group is in danger, etc. But Rick's never really been brutal for the sake of being brutal, there's an underlying reason most of the time. Rick fucked the hunters up, but considering they were a bunch of cannibals that had no qualms with eating people, including children, they pretty much had it coming. Not to mention that, at least in the comics, he is well aware of what he's capable of, and he's conflicted in how he feels about it.

Joel, on the other hand, has long since stopped giving a fuck about any of that. He isn't losing any sleep after plunging a lead pipe with scissors attached to it into a man's neck. To him, that shit's just a regular Tuesday. If he wants someone dead, he'll see to it, and he doesn't care how he gets from point A to point B. He doesn't have any qualms about getting into fights, and he doesn't have any qualms about making them much more bloody than they need to be. Granted, some things are player determined (obviously), but there's more than enough cutscenes and scripted sequences where Joel gets pretty damn ruthless, way more than he needs to be.

To be fair, Joel's survived the apocalypse for 20 years. He's been sick of humanity right from the opening scene. He probably hasn't had a group for a long time- it's every man for themselves. Rick tends to have his group at his back and hasn't survived for all that long; his mental state is more intact. Joel is undoubtedly more brutal and open to killing as opposed to using democracy to solve his problems- he knows that the world doesn't give a shit about your personal problems anymore...
    he's decided for more of a... ricktatorship ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

As for who I like better, Rick was technically the original Joel... so is the unnamed man from The Road, Jim from 28 Days Later and every other generic white southern male apocalypse survivor used in the media. On the bright side, for something so late to the party, tlou did pretty well

  • Joel definitely.

Rick has had to endure killing people/walkers for a couple of years. Joel has had 20 years of hell!

  • Is this about the Telltale Games Series? No! Then, why are you posting this?

  • Joel, Rick is afraid of losing his humanity in a way Joel isn't, Joel has no problem killing people whatsoever.

  • I am going to have to say Rick. Yes, Joel is a cold blood killer, but Rick definitely shows that he is ruthless and willing to do anything in order to protect his family.

  • And? Batman A Telltale Games Series isn't even out, and GoT sucks, TV show and game.

  • I didn't ask your opinion on the series, I asked you to take a look at the sub forum(s). There has been six episodes for GoT, but people discuss about the TV series because there isn't anything else to discuss. All other topics have been done to death. For TWD it's the same, it's been two years since the last main series episode, and people have simply run out of topics. The Season 3 teaser made for some interesting discussions, but it will die out in a few weeks or even days. Why would people not discuss other TWD related media if there isn't anything else to talk about?
