Issue 159 Discussion
So! Pretty nice issue if you ask me. No major deaths, but there've been very important events. Lydia breaks up with Carl (Carlia supporters will approve this XD), Negan loses Lucille, Dwight begins to use the Whisperer's masks, Beta lives to fight another day, and the war goes on.
P.S: I forgot, there IS a major death. RIP Lucille. 100-159

It was a good issue but poor Lucille
, it will be interesting if they use the walker skin against the whisperers in future issues.

It was badass to see Negan finally get Lucille back and then see the beatdown of Beta, but then it happened...and a piece of me died...

I'm crying over a fucking baseball bat, what have you done to me Robert Kirkman? Why did Lucille have to die?!
Decent issue but a step down from the previous two issues of this Whisperer War arc. The Carl/Lydia scene did seem to have Lydia act a bit out of character. It's also obvious that Kirkman is trying to bring Carl and Sophia together. Completely fine with that but given the fact that Sophia hasn't been around much at all for about twenty issues Kirkman could have been a little smoother in transitioning Sophia into a love story with Carl.
Perhaps wait until Lydia dies or leaves the group or the two get into a bad argument before bringing Sophia into the picture.
Nah her actions makes sense. Why would she be in love with someone that is so young? I think that Lydia just had him around just for convenience. Carl made himself easy as a outlet that Lydia needed to survive a unsure situation with group that has her hostage.( If anyone was in a situation where you are surrounded by enemy I would make sure that I stayed close to the first person that seems to be on my side, especially, the leader's son. I think she cares enough for Carl to be honest with him.
She's 16, Carl's 13, it could never work, Lydia kept him around because what else could she do? The boy who thinks with his dick was willing to be her knight in shining armor, why not let him?
Still, Lydia at least cares about him enough to tell him and not try to manipulate him at her own advantage.
I had the same reaction as Negan when Lucille died.
Great issue! Feels really weird but kinda sad to see Negan of all people cry.

Lucille was actually his wife who had cancer and who Negan cheated on. She died and turned and he had to kill her. Making this bat and naming it Lucille was a coping mechanism, and now that it is destroyed Negan knows his wife is truly dead.
Looks pretty damn busted up for a wood bat. He needs to make Lucille 2 out of a metal bat instead haha.
Or he could do what he said he would do in Issue 120.
He'd need to burn another settlement to do that... Look at issue 161 cover and you'll see what I mean.

I actually have some faith that Negan could, in fact, wrap his dock in barbed wire and kill shit with it. That's how crazy and funny he is.

He's a solid antagonist, but I consistently hate him from a moral perspective. And from whatever perspective includes his cringey jokes.
He's a good character and all but let's face it, at this point he's just being milked, high time he died at last, not necessarily by bleeding out from the dick, but it wouldn't be bad. The Big Swinging Dick dying because he wanted to make a Lucille 2 from his dick. The irony.
It's time he died indeed.
I just hope Caphia comes back.
Edit: Also, I wonder why Beta doesn't want people to see his face. Is he THAT ugly? is he a member of one of the communities working as spy, secretly sended by Rick to lears about the whisperers long before they showed up? (nah too stupid).

I get a filling we are in store for a little Carl/Lydia/Sophia love triangle in the future. Hopefully it won't be as predictable as your standard 'boy chases after girl who is above his league while at the same time ignoring the girl he grew up with. And in time realizes that the girl he grew up with was the one he should have been with all the while.
